Afghan Whigs Sign With Columbia

After leaving Elektra shortly after the release of “Black Love” in 1997, the Afghan Whigs have signed a new multi-record deal with Columbia, and the label plans to release a new Whigs album this fall.

The Whigs have been working on material for the as-yet-untitled record in New Orleans and Seattle, and the band recently previewed the new songs at Sub Pop’s tenth anniversary party. The Whigs also plan to unveil tracks from the upcoming album at a performance during the Big Easy’s JazzFest on May 2.

Frontman Greg Dulli has kept himself busy during the Whigs’ downtime with a variety of projects, including handling both production and musical duties for comedian Dennis Leary’s latest album, “Lock N’ Load.”
