AC/DC Likely To Keep A "Stiff Upper Lip"

AC/DC has a tentative title and release date for its new album. The veteran Aussie rockers have "Stiff Upper Lip" penciled in for a February 29 release in the U.S. with an as-yet-undetermined single scheduled for late January.

Elektra Records confirms that the above dates are on the label's projected schedule. However, a management spokesperson for the band cautions that the release date is likely to change, and that the title is not written in stone.

The CD was produced by George Young, the older brother of the band's guitarists Angus and Malcolm Young and a former member of the Easybeats ("Friday On My Mind"). It was mixed by Mike Fraser, who also did the group's previous album.

The band, whose members are native to Australia but live in various parts of the world, did the writing and pre-production in Holland, Sydney, and London and then recorded the tracks at the Warehouse in Vancouver, Canada, a studio owned by Canuck rocker Bryan Adams. They cut

17 songs from July to October of last year, which will be pared down to a maximum of twelve.

"Stiff Upper Lip" may well be making its appearance close to 20 years to the day after the death of former singer Bon Scott. Scott died from alcohol poisoning on February 20, 1980 and was replaced by Brian Johnson the following month.

The CD will be the group's 17th album, its first since 1995's "Ballbreaker," a top five hit on the "Billboard" album chart.
