Eminem Discusses Alleged Assault On Xzibit Album

On verse from 'Don't Approach Me,' Slim Shady also raps about ex-wife's suicide attempt.

Eminem hasn't yet gone to trial on the criminal charges he faces for an assault he allegedly committed earlier this year, but the Detroit rapper appears to have already testified on the incident in the unlikely venue of the new Xzibit album.

Within the space of a single verse on the track "Don't Approach Me," from the just-released Restless, Eminem discusses both the incident — in which he allegedly struck a man with a gun outside a bar in Warren, Michigan — and the equally touchy topic of a suicide attempt by his wife. Eminem faces weapons and assault charges, as well as a civil lawsuit, in connection with the alleged bar attack.

"You wonder why I carry every gun under the sun/ Whether it's unloaded ... or a unregistered one," Eminem raps in his signature rapid-fire flow. "Just got in a feud in some parking lot with a dude over Kim and she just slit both of her wrists over this sh--."

Ironically, those lines come in the context of a plea for privacy from Xzibit and Eminem, who bemoan the deleterious effects of fame on the track.

"I just wanted ... to give somebody some insight that after we get done entertaining you guys, that after we get done leaving our tours, and going to our houses, we do have regular problems like everybody else," Xzibit said Tuesday. "And it's not all good. ... You in the spotlight, you've still got to leave the spotlight and go home and go to sleep." (RealVideo)

In one of his verses on the song, Eminem complains of "cameras in [his] face like animals."

"Every day I wake up, another drama/ It's a wonder I'm alive surviving this karma/ If I can hold onto my private life for five minutes longer I might get my wife to let go with this knife," he raps.

The song's chorus, chanted by Eminem, warns: "You don't know me/ And I don't know you/ So you don't approach me/ I won't approach you/ Don't insult me/ I won't insult you/ 'Cause you don't know what I will or I won't do."

Prosecutors in Macomb County, Michigan, where Eminem faces charges for the alleged bar assault, could not be reached for comment on the song. Eminem faces one count each of carrying a concealed weapon — punishable by up to five years in prison — and assault with a dangerous weapon, which carries a maximum penalty of four years in prison. Prosecutors previously said they will insist on jail time for the rapper in any settlement of the case. The next hearing in the criminal case is scheduled for Friday.

Eminem is charged with striking John Guerra, 26, with a gun outside the Hot Rock Sports Bar and Café in Warren, Michigan, on June 4. Guerra also filed a lawsuit against Eminem alleging assault and emotional distress, but that suit is on hold until all criminal charges are resolved.

A spokesperson for Eminem did not immediately return a call for comment on "Don't Approach Me."

Restless, released Tuesday, is Xzibit's third album. The album, which Dr. Dre executive-produced, also features guest appearances by Snoop Dogg, Goldie Loc, KRS-One, Erick Sermon and Eastsidaz.

The California-based Xzibit, who made guest appearances of his own this year on albums from Limp Bizkit, De La Soul, Snoop Dogg and others, joined Eminem and Limp Bizkit on the recent Anger Management Tour.

Snoop raps on the new album's hard-hitting, string-propelled first single, "X."
