A Perfect Circle To Launch North American Tour

Despite the onslaught of new activity on the Tool front, frontman Maynard James Keenan plans to lead his other group, A Perfect Circle, out on the road in January for an extensive round of touring.

A Perfect Circle — whose debut album, Mer De Noms, has sold more than 930,000 copies since its release in May — will start their North American trek January 31 in Portland, Oregon. It will continue through March 31 in Minneapolis.

For Keenan, A Perfect Circle's tour will serve as a buffer between a pair of new releases from Tool, who will deliver a new CD and video box set, both titled Salival, on Tuesday. Tool also tentatively have picked April 17 to release a new, full-length studio record, the first since the group's 1996 sophomore effort, Aenima.

In other Perfect Circle news, Mer De Noms has become the first rock album from the West to be cleared for release in China since Guns N' Roses' Use Your Illusion I and II records, which were approved for import by government censors in 1997.

According to Circle's reps at Virgin Records, Mer De Noms was unleashed on the Chinese marketplace in October through a licensing agreement with EMI China. Incidentally, Guns N' Roses long-awaited new album is titled Chinese Democracy.
