As they tour the United States with Christina Aguilera this month and next, Destiny's Child will make stops at shopping malls to sign autographs.
The Houston trio won't be singing at these appearances, but their aptly named labelmates Sygnature will provide the musical backdrop. Sygnature are a New Jersey male vocal quartet whose first album is set for release early next year, according to Columbia Records.
Destiny's Child's "Jumpin', Jumpin' " (RealAudio excerpt) is at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and at #8 on the magazine's R&B/Hip-Hop chart. Their 1999 album, The Writing's on the Wall, has sold more than 5 million copies.
"We're doing it mainly to provide something for the community, something for kids to do," said Melissa Grantedam, marketing director of the Northgate Mall in Cincinnati, where the group will appear Monday.
"We're expecting about 1,000 people for the event," Grantedam said. She added that the mall is hiring extra security for the appearance.
The mall's Camelot Records store has seen a jump in sales of The Writing's on the Wall since the appearance was announced. "People are coming in, saying, 'Well, if they're going to be here, I better get the album,' " said a store employee, who asked not to be identified.
The former quartet has been a trio since the end of July, when Farrah Franklin left the group. Franklin and Michelle Williams replaced original members LaToya Luckett and LaTivia Roberson in February. Beyoncé Knowles and Kelly Rowland are the two remaining founding members.
Fans who attend the autograph sessions will have the chance to win tickets for that evening's concert.
