Ex-Onyx rapper Fredro Starr plans to issue his first solo album in October under his new tag, Firestarr, on Koch Records, now that he's wrapped his latest film project.
The new, untitled record will be Starr's first music-related release since Onyx's most recent album, 1998's Shut 'Em Down. Starr has spent most of the past two years developing his acting career, including roles in such films as "Ride" and "Light It Up." "Die 4 Rap" will be the lead single from the new Firestarr album, and Starr plans to shoot a video for the track in the next few weeks.
Starr isn't the only former Onyx member branching out with solo projects. Sticky Fingaz plans to issue his own album, Black Trash, later this year.
In February, Starr completed filming "Save the Last Dance," a movie in which he stars opposite Julia Stiles in a story that details the problems facing an interracial high-school couple in Chicago.
It's tentatively set to open Jan. 12.
