Jonny Lang To Play Dates With Sting

Teenage blues phenom will share bill with former Police leader at 15 venues.

Nineteen-year-old blues prodigy Jonny Lang will take to the North American freeways this August for tour dates that include a stint opening for British pop star Sting.

The 22-city tour, which begins Aug. 10 near Lang's original stamping grounds of Sioux City, S.D., will criss-cross the country, focusing on the South and Southeast before finally wrapping up Oct. 6 in Salt Lake City.

Lang, like fellow teen blues phenom Shannon Curfman, hails from North Dakota. His hard-hitting singing and guitar playing meld elements of R&B, rock and soul into his blues.

His debut, Lie to Me, entered the Billboard New Artist Chart at #1 upon its 1997 release. His follow-up, Wander this World, earned him a Grammy nomination. "The Levee" (RealAudio excerpt), from that album, showcases Lang's exuberant style, which is informed by traditional blues vocabulary as much as by Jimi Hendrix.

Lang joins Sting on the marquee starting Aug. 22 in Phoenix. They'll wander this world together through a show scheduled for Sept. 10 in Hershey, Pa.
