News Flash: Insane Collection Of Madness

New ska fans enraptured by the likes of the Mighty Mighty Bosstones and inheritors such as No Doubt and Sublime will want to check CD bins next week, when the first American compilation by the band Madness arrives in stores. The 12-track collection called Total Madness (Geffen) naturally features the band's single U.S. hit, "Our House," as well as tracks such as "Tomorrow's Just Another Day" and "It Must Be Love" which made them huge stars in Britain. Madness were among the first U.K. bands to spark that country's ska revival in the late '70s. Included with Total Madness will be liner notes written by America's own ska kingpin, Dicky Barrett of the Bosstones. Although Madness formally disbanded in 1986, they've presided over Britain's "Madstock" festival for the past several years. Details are still being sorted out for a potential U.S. tour to support the new collection. -- ATN staff report [Fri., Sept. 5, 1997, 9 a.m. PST]
