  1. It may be hard to imagine now, but Katy Perry began her musical career singing gospel music back in 2001. It took a little time for Perry to evolve into the artist she is today, making a stop in Nashville, landing a song on the The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants soundtrack, teaming up with several different hit-making producers and songwriters all while building up her buzz in the music industry. But she started to really gain traction when she signed a deal with Sony and released the playful video and single "UR So Gay."
