Young Buck Facing 18 Months In Prison

Onetime G-Unit rapper reached a plea deal with Nashville prosecutors on gun charges dating back to 2010.

Young Buck started his rap career with a ton of promise, but his legal problems thwarted that potential and his woes continue to mount. According to reports, the former G-Unit MC is looking at an 18-month prison stint for gun possession.

The Tennessee rap star has agreed to a plea deal with Nashville prosecutors that will land him behind bars for a year and half, TMZ reported on Tuesday (May 22). A judge signed off on the plea, but Buck won't be sentenced formally until July 13.

"I got to go to the penitentiary in two months," Buck said in a personal video posted online over the weekend. "F--- with me for real, hold me down — and when I get out of the penitentiary, all you rap n---as better get the f--- out the way. I ain't even gonna say no names, but it's a good thing I'm about to go to the penitentiary."

After an IRS raid on Buck's Nashville home in 2010, authorities found a .40 caliber Glock 22 as well as ammunition. The raid followed reports that the rapper had an outstanding $300,000 tax debt, and because he's a convicted felon, Buck is prohibited from possessing any firearms. Back in 2005, he pleaded no contest to assault with a chance to produce bodily injury after he stabbed a man while trying to defend Dr. Dre at the 2004 Vibe Awards.

Buck rose to fame as a member of 50 Cent's G-Unit crew. In 2004, his debut, Straight Outta Cashville, went platinum; he followed that up with 2007's sophomore effort, Buck the World. But by '08, Young Buck had gotten himself kicked out of the group after tension between him and label boss 50. The MC has been releasing mixtape material on and off ever since, including The Rehab, an independent street album.

Young Buck Pleads Not Guilty To Felony Gun Charges

On Monday, former 50 Cent protégé Young Buck pleaded not guilty to federal felony gun possession charges in a Nashville court.

The rapper's home was raided in August 2010 by Internal Revenue Service agents for $300,000 in unpaid taxes. During the raid, officials alleged they discovered a .40-caliber pistol and ammunition belonging to Young Buck, according to local NBC affiliate WSMV. The indictment in the case had been sealed until Monday.

As a previously convicted felon (for stabbing a man at the Vibe Awards in 2004), he is not allowed to possess a gun and could face up to 10 years in prison if found guilty. The onetime G-Unit star (real name: David Brown), appeared in court before a judge in handcuffs and pleaded not-guilty. He was released on a $100,000 bond.

Young Buck has endured financial difficulties since unceremoniously parting ways with 50 Cent and Interscope Records. He filed a lawsuit in the past, claiming the parties short-changed him out of earnings. 50, however, has long maintained that he not only was fair in paying Buck, but also helped the lyricist with additional funds to pay off debts.

At the time of the raid, Buck was emphatic that he had been cheated out of funds.

"I have a new team in place, but I am also paying full attention now," he said in a statement. "Nothing like this will ever happen again. This is a huge wake-up call for all entertainers to stay on top of your own trusted employees and team members, and replace anyone that was put in place by your record label if the situation you have goes sour. This IRS situation came about because I trusted accountants, lawyers and managers to handle my business for me while I focused on making music. From now on, I am going to stay on top of my own business."

Real Spit: Young Buck doesn't concern himself with media reports detailing his troubles with the tax man or contractual disputes with G-Unit pitbull 50 Cent. Instead, the Tennessee native deals with his issues in the booth. And on the Drumma Boy-helmed Back on My Buck Sh--, Vol. 2, street-album fans will get some of Buck's most heartfelt rhymes yet.

"I just been going in the booth and giving it to you," the ex-G-Unit MC told Mixtape Daily when we met up at the Drumma Boy compound. "Life is real like that, ya'll know that. ... But I'm good, my music speaks for itself ... I'm speaking through the music."

Buck said his latest sessions with Drumma happened naturally. "Honestly, he'll tell you man, I just walked in the booth and gave it to the world exactly how it is, and that's how I really been doing a lot of my music lately."

The producer said fans can expect Buck stray from his usual fare on B.O.M.B. S. 2. (Drumma Boy was actually doing double duty during the Mixtape Daily interview, tending to another Memphis heavyweight, 8Ball, who was going through tracks.)

"The sound of the project is basically a whole mix, it's like a gumbo," Drumma explained. "You gon' hear a little bit of rock influence, you gon' hear a little bit of soul influence, a little bit of Marvin Gaye influence, with the "AM/FM" — shout-out to Lupe, coming through, you know, blazing us." He continued, "I can't say too much. You gotta listen to it and really capture the moment."

Young Buck Discusses Contractual Battle With 50 Cent

'It's about to get real, real interesting,' he says of G-Unit Records issues.

Young Buck says he didn't keep an eye on his business with the Internal Revenue Service, thus his outstanding $300,000 debt to Uncle Sam. But when it comes to his contractual obligation to 50 Cent and G-Unit Records, the Cashville, Tennessee, native says he won't drop the ball: He's focused on getting off the label.

"It's on the way," Buck said about his next official album when we caught up with him recently in Houston. "The music speaks for itself. I'm everywhere when it comes to online — I throw music out. People are already aware of my situation ... the whole fight with the contract thing. It's about to get real, real interesting, people. I will say that much.

"If you ain't focused on Buck, now is the time to get focused on Buck," he continued. "With this whole contract situation, we really gonna see what this was really about. Y'all mark my words: I'll be back to MTV to finish this when it all ends. At the end of the day, I appreciate the people that's sticking right there through the fight I'm going through as far as my contract situation."

If and when Buck is successful in dissolving business ties with 50 Cent remains to be seen. In the meantime, the Southern spitter is working the mixtape circuit.

"As far as the mixtapes, Back on My Buck Sh-- (Part 2) is on the way," he revealed. "It's produced by Drumma Boy, all the way through. I got records everywhere. I got one of the hottest mixtapes that's in the streets right now, 601 to the 615, CTE and Cashville. I'm just staying out here until I get this monkey off my back with the contract."

On Tuesday, Buck's home was raided by the IRS, reportedly because he has about $300,000 in unpaid taxes.

"The worst part of this isn't the material stuff — that will all be replaced," Buck said in a statement. "It's what it does to the people around me. They took my kids' PlayStation, my assistants' computers, and baby's mothers' jewelry. They took my home studio so I can't even record.

"I have a new team in place, but I am also paying full attention now," he added. "Nothing like this will ever happen again. This is a huge wake-up call for all entertainers to stay on top of your own trusted employees and team members, and replace anyone that was put in place by your record label if the situation you have goes sour. If Wesley Snipes' recent jail sentence for tax evasion wasn't warning enough not to mess with Uncle Sam, then celebs can also learn from Young Buck's run-in Tuesday (August 3) with the IRS — at gunpoint.

While Buck's lawyers filed a motion last month to protect his assets, the former G-Unit MC's house was raided Tuesday by the United States Internal Revenue Service for $300,000 in unpaid taxes. Ultimately, the rapper was allowed to keep his home and his car; however, many of the items inside were seized.

Buck blamed his record label for the raid and vowed to never be in this position again.

"I have a new team in place, but I am also paying full attention now," the statement continued. "Nothing like this will ever happen again. This is a huge wake-up call for all entertainers to stay on top of your own trusted employees and team members, and replace anyone that was put in place by your record label if the situation you have goes sour. This IRS situation came about because I trusted accountants, lawyers and managers to handle my business for me while I focused on making music. Tony Yayo Feels 'A Little Sorry' For Young Buck

You can never say never, but the chances of the Beatles of hip-hop getting back together are looking very slim. Last month, Game apologized for the friction he stirred while being a member of the G-Unit, and just recently Young Buck went the same route. But could 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo ever find it in their hearts to embrace their lyrically potent onetime crew members?

"Shout to Young Buck," Yayo said standing in the G-Unit offices earlier this week. "I wish you was with us, getting some money, living the life."

Has Yayo's stance actually softened towards Buck after all this time? His response to the Cashville rapper's recent words on cyberspace was, "When I see it, I feel a little sorry for him, because he could be taking the same advantages I'm taking.

"ThisIs50.com is the biggest hip-hop network out there — as well as the Web sites that come after it," Yayo continued. "He could be taking advantage of it, but you don't hear his mixtapes; you don't see nothing from nowhere. I just wish that the guy thought better or was a better businessman, instead of just being a good rapper. You being disgruntled towards 50, now what do you have? You could have been with us in Peru. We went to Switzerland, Istanbul, we went everywhere, man. I'm too real for the industry. Even if I was disgruntled about anything, I wouldn't care, because I'm still getting money. Still got houses, still got cars, sprinklers still come out the ground. I think people get jealous of 50, of how big he is. You wake up, Mayor Bloomberg is talking about 50. Then in the New York Post, he had two pages. Then he was on Fox 5 [New York] news because we're doing an event for the kids and grown-ups — August 30, come nice, in good behavior.

"But the thing is, a lot of artists don't hit that plateau where they're on CNN, on Fox 5," Yayo said. "But what happens, when we're around 50 and dudes is in the circles, dudes start to get mad jealous. They want 50's money. That's what happened with Game and Buck, there was no way they were supposed to mess up the money. That's what they did, they started messing up the money."

Yayo said the Unit could never take Game seriously because "Game is bipolar." As for Buck, whom they knew a lot longer and were closer friends with, it doesn't look like Yayo will be slapping him five anytime soon.

"Buck, I think he's at a point where financially, I don't think he got it, homie," Tony explained. "What are you doing? I don't see him anywhere. Even when you don't see me, Yayo's in Peru getting a nice check with 50. You can call it whatever you wanna call it; I'm still buying cars, Louis glasses, Porches. If Buck was around, he would still have these outlets available to him. Why apologize now?"

Streets Is Talking

Gucci Mane has a handful of major songs in rotation, such as "Break-Up," "LOL Smiley Face" and the "Obsessed" remix. He's on fire, no doubt. Gucci's album however, has been pushed back from September to December. Still, he will have something for the fans next month. The Atlanta concrete king will be dropping Wasted: The Prequel, an EP packed with his biggest mixtape records of the last year. His latest mixtape, The Movie 2, is a special-edition Gangsta Grillz with DJ Drama.

Former G-Unit member admits, 'Maybe I got out of pocket a little bit.'

First, the Game attempts to make nice with 50 Cent and G-Unit, apologizing to estranged former crew recently for his behavior. Now, is fellow former G-Unit member Young Buck getting in on the act?

Not quite. But the Tennessee rap titan, who was ejected from G-Unit last year, is making amends. In a video interview that circulated online over the weekend, Buck said he's set to refocus on his music career, and his reemergence won't include any barbs at his old boss.

In fact, like the Game, Buck thanked 50 for giving him his big break.

"My whole strategy for coming back and f---ing with this rap sh-- is the total opposite of what people think I'm gonna do," he said. "I think a lot of motherf-----s think I'mma come out, beef with 50 and holler 'F--- G-Unit!' and all that. I'm not even looking to do it like that. I'm looking to make straight, good music, and do my thing through the music. Win from the hits itself. 'Cause that other sh-- ain't about nothing."

MTV News request for comment to Young Buck's camp had not been granted at press time.

The Southern lyricist said he hopes to forge forward with his own brand. In the past he signed former 2Pac affiliates the Outlawz to his Cashville label. Although he was signed to 50 Cent's G-Unit Records, Buck never hid his desire to branch out.

"I'd rather get out here and establish Buck," he continued. " 'Cause everybody establishes themselves. 50 Cent established 50 Cent. 50 Cent established G-Unit. I thank 50 Cent for what he did, giving me the opportunity to establish my talent on a boss base, where I was able to get myself heard on an international level."

Although Buck downplayed any issues he had with his former crew, he did admit his role in getting himself kicked out of G-Unit. Buck performed with or reconciled with Lil Wayne, Jadakiss and Game on separate occasions, angering 50, who at the time was engaged in battles with each camp. The moves eventually led to Buck's ouster.

"Maybe I got out of pocket a little bit," he said. "Because I played a part in it, too. So I can't sit here and act like I never did sh--. I played just as much a part in it as anyone I was with, whether it was 50 or [Lloyd] Banks or [Tony] Yayo, beefing with someone unnecessarily. They had a reason at the time, but when it was all said and done, no one got shot. And nothing came from it."

Essential Info: Polow Da Don and Timbaland were so excited about the project, they almost gave Fif tracks. But production from those two will more than likely pop up on Before I Self Destruct, due in September. The G-Unit General is warming the scene up before summer officially hits, dropping his new mixtape before the official product.

If you're curious about the title, know that it's not about a beef with one person in particular — this war angel is fed up with the watered-down music in hip-hop right now. It's not what he adored growing up as a fan.

"What I fell in love with initially ain't even in the mutha----in' art form anymore. It's cool because there's an opportunity for me to become [that] to a whole new generation ... because of their age group, they're not aware of it.

"Now I gotta shift the energy," 50 added. "I gotta make them follow me. After they follow me, they'll be able to make real hip-hop records and make them successful. I have to have a successful project with really good hip-hop music to make these people go, 'OK, we can make [a real hip-hop album].' I have to be successful to make the record companies go, 'We can support this guy that wrote a rap album' instead of feeling like 'We need him to go on this record with Ne-Yo or Dream. Get somebody on there to do the hook.' That's the concept of what they feel they can present to the public and that's not what the f--- I was going on when I started."

50 is debuting the entire mixtape Tuesday (June 16) on Hot 97 with Funkmaster Flex then posting it on his Web site that night for free download. The Queens MC is also hiring new video directors — a different one for each clip — to come up with visuals for the mixtape.

"When I start writing music to my core, I'm talking about the way I came up, the way I was raised," he explained. "That's easy to me. Tell me to make a commercial pop record, a commercial hit record and that's more difficult to me than to create concepts that people are excited about where I'm from."

After War Angel, 50 says to look for Sincerely Southside, on which he'll be rapping over some '90s R&B hits, as well as a full G-Unit mixtape prior to the release of Before I Self Destruct.

"I write at a rapid pace," he said. "I have binges. There's points I'll be in the studio ... I've met moments when I'm there and unmotivated by production. Just there and unexcited about the whole sh--. Then there's times when every beat that comes on, I have an idea."
