NEW YORK — Thursday night was just a regular evening at the movies ... well, if you're used to seeing 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo at the theater! Fif held a screening of his film "Before I Self Destruct"; the movie shares a title with 50's new LP and they will be released together on November 16.

"I'm trying to be ahead of the curve because things are changing in music," 50 told the audience at the AMC Loews Kips Bay 15 theater in Manhattan on Thursday. Members of the audience included Red Café, Uncle Murda, radio personality Miss Info, DJ Jazzy Joyce and actor/MC AlBe Back.

For Fif, the "Before I Self Destruct" film "was an opportunity to show the cause and effect" of a good guy gone bad. Fif also said making a 90-minute film presented an opportunity to get more in-depth than a three-minute song.

50 stars as Clarence, a street-basketball superstar with enough promise to possibly make it to the NBA. When he injures his knee during a game, his hoop dreams are smashed and he's left to figure out what to do with the rest of his life. When Clarence and his genius pre-teen brother Chaka suffer the ultimate family tragedy, Clarence turns to the streets for salvation and money. He becomes a ruthless hitman for a local kingpin played by Clifton Powell. Lloyd Banks also has a role as Chaka's school teacher — yes, Banks appears in a dress shirt and tie, surprising the crowd with a character no one expected.

One hilarious moment during the screening came when 50 had to cry onscreen, and an audience member started to laugh. 50 himself yelled from his seat, "Shut up, n---a!" causing the entire crowd to laugh.

Also released with the album and film will be the documentary "2 Turntables and a Microphone," which explores the murder of Run-DMC DJ and 50 mentor Jam Master Jay. The trailer was shown at the screening on Thursday night as well.

"[Jam Master Jay's nephew] Phonz was working on that project for five years," 50 explained to MTV News a little over a year ago. "He came to me, and I shot my [interview] portion that's on the documentary. We met in Atlanta the first time and ended up shooting in Amsterdam.

"It's not a random act of violence," 50 also said about Jay's murder. "People just don't walk in your studio, shoot and kill you with several other people around, and no one knows anything. I believe the documentary sheds light on it — a little bit. It creates a clearer picture of what actually happened at that point. People just heard, 'Jam Master Jay got shot.' They don't understand the circumstances. [The film] creates some clarity."

Behind the Beats: Serani

Serani may be best known for his breakout hit "No Games," but the emerging Jamaican artist first made a name for himself crafting songs for some of his homeland's biggest stars.

"I'm a musician from birth, I played the keys from birth," Serani said. "As time went on, when I became a teenager I was listening to Bounty Killer, Beenie Man, Capleton and Sizzla. I would listen to the beats and thought, 'Why are they on some of these? They could do better.' And I knew I had the talent to do it."

He got his start working as a musician, contributing to Wayne Marshall songs. Eventually he formed Daseca Productions with two partners, and the trio were able to power hits by some of the same artists Serani listened to coming up. Their big break came when they scored a couple of knockout hits, producing Tony Matterhorn's "Dutty Wine" and Sean Paul's "We Be Burning."

" 'We Be Burning' was the first real big move," Serani said.

The producer had long been a frequent collaborator with Mavado, and the two developed a brotherly relationship. While working with Mavado, Serani found his voice — he'd coach artists while producing their records and found he had a knack for melody.

Although he had no formal experience singing, family and friends pushed him to develop his vocals.

"I was doing that and I was teaching a lot of artists how to sing," he said of his time manning the boards. "I didn't know I could do it, but I knew keys. Eventually, as I'm making the beats, I start coming up with ideas for myself and as the time goes by, the ideas start getting better and better. This is, like, 2007, so I just started doing it. My voice started getting better and I said, 'Let's do it.' "

Now with "No Games" as his first certified solo hit, Serani is prepping for the release of his debut of the same name, due October 27.

Next Wave of Flav

On Mavado: "He's like my son in music. He's older than me, but I feel like he's my son, 'cause I taught him so much in music as a producer. I'm like his son in terms of singing, if you wanna say so. We have a good relationship. I still produce songs with Mavado. He's my brother."

The Streets Is Talking: News & Notes From the Underground

There's been a lot of talk about 50 Cent lately, with many questioning the motives behind his recent ThisIs50 Music Festival held in New York. Fabolous was one of the first to bring it up on Twitter, asking if the G-Unit General would have reached out to his onetime rivals a few years ago. Who knows, really?

However, Tony Yayo seemed to be enthusiastic about all the crew love that went down on Governor's Island, where G-Unit, the Diplomats and the LOX all connected.

"I know your eyes is buggin' on, like, what's going on — Slaughterhouse, the Unit, D-Block out here, Dipset," the Talk of New York boasted. "My man Young Money Trav — we got Jersey here, L.A., we got a lot of 'hoods. Detroit.

"Talk about that new album, man," Yayo continued, looking in Joe Budden's direction. " 'Cause I picked up that [Slaughterhouse] album. I told [the rest of the group] you should do that 'Microphone' joint [onstage]."

"See, man," Budden cut in.

The New Jersey MC and his counterparts, Joell Ortiz, Royce Da 5'9" and Crooked I, might have disagreed about their song set for the night's festivities.

Yayo was adamant, however.

"That's crack, man."

Real Spit: DJ Drama and the G-Unit have been talking about collaborating since before 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo were working on their T.O.S. album. A full group Gangsta Grillz hasn't solidified yet, but Dram did get a chance to lock in with one-third of the Queens music murderers.

"You hear my mixtapes on ThisIs50.com and you hear them with DJ Whoo Kid," Yayo explained. "I wanted to go out of my element this time. It was like, 'Who should I go to? DJ Drama.' Atlanta is poppin', New York City's poppin', everywhere is poppin' — but I had to go to Gangsta Grillz. [Mastermind DJ Drama] paved the way for a lot of artists. He's the hottest DJ to go to. Shout out to Whoo Kid, but I did this one with Drama this time."

"My relationship with G-Unit has always been quite a good one," Drama said. "It's always been love, always been respect. I've always been a fan of their music and their mixtapes. The mixtape game wouldn't be what it is without Yayo, Fif, Banks, Whoo Kid, G-Unit. For me to come up and do my thing with Gangsta Grillz and us to unify — it's perfect. The streets been wanting this for a while. Yayo hit me, I said it's perfect."

The Talk of New York says he titled the tape after a slang term in his neighborhood.

"That's the name of Queens — shout to Southside Jamaica," Yayo explained. "Shout to Willie the Kid and La the Darkman. The video is crazy. Real recognize real. I've been dropping a lot of mixtapes on my own, learning from 50. I think I'm starting to get the game mastered. It takes some time. Swine Flu, Swine Flu 2: Tha Pandemic, Public Enemies. Now I got Gangsta Paradise. Reason I call it Gangsta Paradise is because the gangstas in Queens call it 'gangsta's paradise.' Brooklyn is the jungle."

Yayo and Dram are hopeful that they can knock out a full G-Unit Gangsta Grillz once 50 finishes filming his latest movie.

Joints to Check For

» "Cut Throat Sh--." "I got a lot of down South beats. I got a lot Master P joints on there," Yayo explained. "Mystikal, UGK — I got 'Swamp N---a' on there. I wanted to try something different. I know a lot of n---as are not thinking to rhyme off of 'Swamp N---a' by Master P."

» "Drama." "I thought it was perfect [for Yayo to use Southern beats]," Drama said. "Somebody like Yayo — I know he knows how to put a good tape together. Sometimes you gotta walk artists through it, help them with beat selection. When he sent it to me, I was like, 'This is genius.' It's a lot of quality Southern beats on there. It's not just hit records, it's the dope records — through the years, the timeless records."

The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive

You can never say never, but the chances of the Beatles of hip-hop getting back together are looking very slim. Last month, Game apologized for the friction he stirred while being a member of the G-Unit, and just recently
Young Buck went the same route. But could 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo ever find it in their hearts to embrace their lyrically potent onetime crew members?

"Shout to Young Buck," Yayo said standing in the G-Unit offices earlier this week. "I wish you was with us, getting some money, living the life."

Has Yayo's stance actually softened towards Buck after all this time? His response to the Cashville rapper's recent words on cyberspace was, "When I see it, I feel a little sorry for him, because he could be taking the same advantages I'm taking.

"ThisIs50.com is the biggest hip-hop network out there — as well as the Web sites that come after it," Yayo continued. "He could be taking advantage of it, but you don't hear his mixtapes; you don't see nothing from nowhere. I just wish that the guy thought better or was a better businessman, instead of just being a good rapper. You being disgruntled towards 50, now what do you have? You could have been with us in Peru. We went to Switzerland, Istanbul, we went everywhere, man. I'm too real for the industry. Even if I was disgruntled about anything, I wouldn't care, because I'm still getting money. Still got houses, still got cars, sprinklers still come out the ground. I think people get jealous of 50, of how big he is. You wake up, Mayor Bloomberg is talking about 50. Then in the New York Post, he had two pages. Then he was on Fox 5 [New York] news because we're doing an event for the kids and grown-ups — August 30, come nice, in good behavior.

"But the thing is, a lot of artists don't hit that plateau where they're on CNN, on Fox 5," Yayo said. "But what happens, when we're around 50 and dudes is in the circles, dudes start to get mad jealous. They want 50's money. That's what happened with Game and Buck, there was no way they were supposed to mess up the money. That's what they did, they started messing up the money."

Yayo said the Unit could never take Game seriously because "Game is bipolar." As for Buck, whom they knew a lot longer and were closer friends with, it doesn't look like Yayo will be slapping him five anytime soon.

"Buck, I think he's at a point where financially, I don't think he got it, homie," Tony explained. "What are you doing? I don't see him anywhere. Even when you don't see me, Yayo's in Peru getting a nice check with 50. You can call it whatever you wanna call it; I'm still buying cars, Louis glasses, Porches. If Buck was around, he would still have these outlets available to him. Why apologize now?"

Streets Is Talking

Gucci Mane has a handful of major songs in rotation, such as "Break-Up," "LOL Smiley Face" and the "Obsessed" remix. He's on fire, no doubt. Gucci's album however, has been pushed back from September to December. Still, he will have something for the fans next month. The Atlanta concrete king will be dropping Wasted: The Prequel, an EP packed with his biggest mixtape records of the last year. His latest mixtape, The Movie 2, is a special-edition Gangsta Grillz with DJ Drama.

The G-Unit says that their neighborhood extravaganza, called both "40 Day" and "Family Day," is slated to take place on August 30 in the New York City neighborhood of Southside Jamaica, Queens.

The event is a free gathering of people in the neighborhood, taking place outside of the "40 Projects," a.k.a. the South Jamaica Houses development. According to 50 and the Unit, there will be music, plenty of food and many of Fif's big name celebrity friends mingling with the folks. G-Unit's Tony Yayo even said the event will have amusement park rides.

However, On Monday, the New York Post published an article claiming that "40 Day" had people in 50's home neighborhood cowering in fear; the articles quotes several locals who are leery of potential violence. This writer (who grew up and still has ties to the neighborhood) is hearing a different story from locals, who seem excited to have 50, Tony Yayo and Lloyd Banks giving back to the community. 50 promoted the positivity of the event while pushing his War Angel LP
LP and Forever King mixtapes a few weeks back.

In any event, the negative publicity seems to have gone all the way to New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's office. When interviewed about the event, Bloomberg told the Post, "Our understanding after talking with 50 Cent is, he has no plans to perform whatsoever. He might go, but he's not going to perform."

On Tuesday, Tony Yayo said the day will be memorable no matter what.

"The mayor was saying he spoke to 50 and he agreed that it wouldn't be a performance. Yo, I can't get at the mayor," Yayo laughed. "I don't even wanna say anything bad about him — I don't wanna get pulled over when I leave from outta here! But 50's big, 50s bigger than life. Rumor is he spent over half a million dollars on this." However, 50 definitely will be taking the stage on August 29 at the Six Flags Amusement Park in New Jersey.

"I know he has over 30 busses for Great Adventure on the 29th. To me, it's a positive thing — it's giving back. Just like how they did Baisley Park," Yayo said, referring to Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson Community Garden, which 50 dedicated late last year.

The Unveiling: Tony Yayo's 'Streets Keep Calling Me'

Today, we bring you the debut of a new viral video by Tony Yayo called "Streets Keep Calling Me." The clip features fellow Queens giant Cormega and is off Yayo's Public Enemies mixtape.

"The Internet is everything for me," Yayo said about putting out music and accompanying visuals on the Web. His videos, like the one for "Candy Man," have been viewed millions of times on ThisIs50.com. "Fif is a smart dude. He has the power to see stuff ahead of time. So it's like, I'm seeing how hard he's going with the Internet — MTV.com and all these other dot-coms, that's poppin' right now. It's the plateau to get yourself out. Before, artists had to pay to get the music out. This is my plateau right now, so I'm going hard."

Public Enemies is Yayo's third mixtape in just a few months.

"The way we had it in '03, 04, I'll never forget that the mixtapes made who we are," Tony explained. "I feel like a whole new artist. I feel like I'm starting all over again. The mixtapes were crazy. I'm still in the 'hood with it.

"It's just everything you're doing yourself," he added about the difference between making his own mixtapes and working on G-Unit projects. "When you got perfectionists like Eminem, Lloyd Banks, 50 Cent and [Dr.] Dre in the studio, you learn a lot from them. I seen 50 say lines 20 times over. The same line. He learned that from Dre and Eminem. I feel the pressure of them still being there. I want the mixtapes to come out right, and I want 50 to be impressed, as well as Banks. It's the same kinda feeling, just a little more pressure, 'cause you wanna make sure everything is good."

Tony Yayo Calls Cormega Back To The Streets

Yayo talks about recruiting a fellow Queens MC, in Mixtape Daily.
By Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by Rahman Dukes

Two generations of Queens MCs: Tony Yayo and Cormega. In the '90s and early on in this decade, Mega was getting on majors like Def Jam and Interscope (the Firm's The Album), but he made his niche working independently. He released a string of well-received indie LPs, and now he's working on a new joint for later this year. Everyone from Pete Rock to DJ Premier to Buckwild has done beats for him.

Meanwhile, Tony Yayo is continuing to rep his team's flag on the streets with another mixtape. Mega and Yayo say their allegiance is legit, and a collaboration called "Streets Keep Calling Me" is just the start. Look for the exclusive video real soon right here on Mixtape Daily.

Mixtape: Public Enemy

Starring: Tony Yayo

Collaboration: "Streets Keep Calling Me" with Cormega

Essential Info: "Sometimes I feel like a public enemy," Yayo said. "Everybody is against me."

For the Queens native, the title was a no-brainer. He had just seen the Johnny Depp film "Public Enemies" when someone gave him a crime encyclopedia. So Yayo has learned a lot about John Dillinger lately.

Somebody who Tony didn't need to research for his mixtape was former Firm member Cormega.

"I had to bring the general out. Mega Montana. I know a lot of people he knows," Yayo said, explaining how the collaboration originated. "Real recognize real. I feel this dude. His music is c'mon. When you look at an artist like Nas, you put Cormega on that same plateau, to me, in my eyes. The Firm. Everything he did in hip-hop. I love hip-hop. I remember 'Dead Man Walking.' That's one of my favorite joints."

"I was telling Yayo, when he was in jail the Yayo buzz was one of the biggest buzzes I've witnessed in hip-hop, period," Cormega said. "I remember 50 before all that. I remember 50 Cent in my man Junior's crib... always smiling, always talking. When he got on, he blew up bigger than I even thought."

Yayo's mixtape will be available for download on ThisIs50.com Tuesday night (July 21).

NEW YORK — Tony Yayo has been keeping up. Just like all the fans have been talking about Jay-Z and the Game's back-and-forth, Yayo has been following along. The G-Unit member said Game made the wrong decision in choosing to dis the Jiggaman.

"Stupid move," Yayo said a couple of days ago in Astoria, Queens. "It's dumb. They got too much money. Dudes got sniper money. You gotta chill. I chill. You gotta leave them kinda dudes alone. That's how I look at it. I don't know how other rappers look at it. These guys is worth hundreds of millions of dollars. 50, Eminem, Dre, Diddy — waste of time, man."

In what 50 has labeled "40 Day," named after the 40 projects, Fif and the crew are setting up bus rides to Great Adventure amusement park one day and the next, having a big picnic style party where everyone in the 'hood is invited to listen to music, get food and mingle with the Unit and friends, such as boxer Floyd Mayweather.

"It feels good, man," Yayo said about giving back. "You hear a lot of hate. You hear, 'G-Unit don't give back to the 'hood. They don't do this. They need security.' Nah. This is gonna show and prove to you they give back to the 'hood. A lot of people focus on the negative, not the positive. Bring your kids, your grandmother — everything's free."

According to Tony Yayo, one of the rules 50 Cent lives by is once you kick sand at him in the sandbox, it's a wrap. It doesn't look like 50 or anyone in G-Unit are interested in reconciling with Game. Recently, the Compton native — and onetime member of the Unit — apologized for being involved in friction with the collective. However, Yayo told us he's not buying it.

"Now he's thinking about his mistakes," Yayo told MTV News. "He said in that interview he might feel a different way the next day. Game is bipolar. One day he's this way, the next day he's the next. When you got a group like G-Unit ... we sold millions of records, we got a lot of egos. From Buck and Game, I think they just gotta learn how to control them egos. In their eyes, to me, they got jealous of 50. They'll say, 'Yayo is up under 50's a--.' Or 'He's 50's yes-man.' It's not that — I don't have any hate in my heart towards anybody. I don't have hate in my heart towards Game or Buck. But when we built a brand, G-Unit was selling millions of records like he said — yeah, we was the Beatles.

"Let me tell you like this," Yayo added. "Let me keep it real. You're either gonna be down with 50 and be below him a little bit ... but you're still travelling the world. I just came back from Ireland, Switzerland and Turkey. So I don't care what nobody says. ... Or you could go against him and get more publicity. Buck and Game, when they went against 50, they got way more publicity. Way more people wanna interview them and know what the beef's with 50. So they gain more interest than me.

"If I was to flip on 50 today, it would get me more media than me being down with him," he continued. "But I'm not a snake. So Game started the 'G-Unot' thing, tried to hurt the brand. C'mon, people respect the movement. They respect when they see guys from the 'hood who came from the 'hood — started out with nothing, now got something, not knock each other when we get to the point where we all got money, houses, cars, kids, bills."

Man, we only had a couple of days to spend in Atlanta last week, but as always, it was very eventful. We got to chop it up with a lot of cats, and although we didn't get a chance to interview these two particular brothers, it was dope seeing Andre and Big Boi together. We need those albums, fellas! In Don't Sleep today, we're gonna put you on to game about T.I.'s fam as well as the new joint by Yo Gotti — he's still buzzin' Down South.

Don't Sleep: Necessary Notables

Mixtape: Greg Hustle

Headliners: T.I. and Greg Street

Co-Starring: An ensemble cast that includes Tip's Grand Hustle family members Young Dro, 8Ball & MJG, Big Kuntry, Bobby Ray and newcomers the Rich Kids.

Show Stealer: Look out for Killer Kill on "Man Up." He stomps out what he calls hip-hop nonsense. "I'm a MC, I don't do R&B/ Please tell these [weak] rappers/ Don't try and sing to me/ Bunch of n---as Auto-Tuning like TLC/ Hopping 'round like the new-school BBD/ Sh-- sickens me."

Essential Info: Tip, we all miss you, but your label has apparently been left in good hands and your artists are holding down the fort. On Saturday (June 20), we had a chance to see the Grand Hustle movement tear down the stage at the Birthday Bash concert in Atlanta, and now the musical clique gets up with Greg Street for a compilation mixtape. Familiars such as Big Kuntry, Young Dro, Yung L.A., Bob, 8Ball & MJG and Killer Mike share mixtape slots with some of Tip's newer artists such as the Rich Kids. Look out for those youngsters — their buzz in the ATL is huge. (Oh yeah — Tip also has some unreleased records on this street CD.)

Mixtape: Cocaine Muzik 3

Headliner: Yo Gotti

Essential Info: Yo Gotti's been dropping a string of mixtapes since his official LP, Back 2 Da Basics, came out in 2006. (We loved that "Gangsta Party" way back when.) Now with a new deal in place through J Records/ Polo Grounds Records, the Tennessee native is ready to start cooking up again. His album will be named Live From the Kitchen.

"It's gonna be a classic album from me and a lot of great producers," Gotti said backstage at the Birthday Bash. "It's a good feeling to move real people — bad women and real dudes. They feel the music, it's personal to them.

"Whoever fits on a song that makes sense, that's who we put on it. I don't base my album on other dudes," he added about guest appearances.

With his business on track, Gotti can concentrate on the lead-in to the project. He just put out the third in his Cocaine Muzik series.

"I got one called 'Newspaper on the Floor,' " he explained. "It's a lot of records that's crazy. I don't save a lot of songs. We put some in the mixtape folders, some in the album folder. DJs come to the studio and go through the folder like a buffet. Get your 10,12 songs, put your tape out."

The Streets Is Talking: News & Notes From The Underground

Tony Yayo is literally on top of New York right now. Standing 15 floors up, ice on his chest, model chick on each arm — who could ask for more?

"We just making movies now," Yayo said. "Shout-out to the whole ThisIs50.com ... Lloyd [Banks] ... We living the life. This is the sh-- Rick Ross rhymes about. We overlooking the city. The Unit is bringing the energy back through the Internet. It's to the point now where you don't have to pay nobody to get on — you could just put it on the Internet and become a star."

Like 50 Cent, Yayo just put out a mixtape — Swine Flu 2: The Pandemic.

"It's called The Pandemic because that's before an epidemic comes," he explained. "The [actual] swine flu has actually turned into an epidemic, so now it's getting crazy. I got Hell Rell on there — you definitely should check out this record. I redid the Drake [song] over — instead of 'Successful,' I did 'What you think I wear a vest for?' I went over the 'Daytona 500' beat with 'Goin In.' Shout-out to Wu-Tang. ... I'm just working."
