Ever since it started in 2006, the Bamboozle Left festival has generally been reserved for bands of the "tight pants and swooping bangs" variety. But this year, it looks like they're doing things a little differently.

That's because none other than 50 Cent — the reigning king of bling, biceps and beef — has been confirmed to headline the second night of the fest, which will take place April 4-5 at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine, California. Other artists on the bill include Fall Out Boy, Thrice, Cobra Starship and the Used.

While 50 doesn't usually run with that crowd, to Bamboozle organizer John D'Esposito, this kind of thing isn't exactly new. In previous years, he's booked everyone from Method Man and Hammer to "Weird" Al Yankovic for the fest, and this year — with No Doubt and Fall Out Boy headlining the East Coast Bamboozle — he decided to swing for the fences.

"We plan to cross over and do the unexpected every year; it's now become our philosophy," D'Esposito told MTV News in an e-mail. "Rock, pop, jazz, hip-hop, it's all the same. It's music. So we reached out to 50's agent with this crazy idea, [and] she was so supportive that we knew it was worth the motion. They asked us who was on the bill, and really didn't recognize some of the names like All Time Low, Suicide Silence and All the Day Holiday, but [they] did like the opportunity to get in front 20,000 kids singing along to every one of his hits."

Neither 50's management nor his label rep had commented on the show at press time.

D'Esposito added that there are still a few relatively huge names yet to be added to the Bamboozle Left lineup — so does that include 50's frequent sparring partner, rapper-turned-rocker Lil Wayne? Seems like Bamboozle would be a great place for Weezy to promote his forthcoming rock LP.

D'Esposito said he hasn't reached out to Wayne just yet, but now that we've mentioned it, he'd like to take this opportunity to do just that.

"If Lil Wayne wants to play a rock festival, there's an invitation for him to do so," he said.

After two weeks of dominance, could any disc dethrone Justin Timberlake's FutureSex/LoveSounds — an album that surpassed the 1-million-sold mark in just three weeks — to claim Billboard's albums-chart crown?

Timberlake, it turns out, is not invincible — just ask Ludacris. For the third time in his career, the rapper will see his latest disc debut at #1 on the Billboard albums chart. Luda's Release Therapy sold more than 309,000 copies during its initial week of release to earn the top spot. Luda's last two efforts, 2004's The Red Light District and 2003's Chicken-N-Beer, both debuted at #1 — with 322,000 and 430,000 sales, respectively.

While Ludacris' mission was clear — bump Timberlake from the top of the chart — he didn't go it alone. Three other new releases played a part in Justin's slip from #1 to the #5 spot he holds after selling close to 147,000 copies of his FutureSex/LoveSounds its third week in stores. Janet Jackson bows at #2 with 20 Y.O. putting up 296,000 in first-week sales. Tony Bennett's Duets: An American Classic — featuring collaborations with Bono, Sting and Stevie Wonder, among others — opens at #3 with close to 202,000 scans. Alan Jackson finishes fourth, with first-week sales of Like Red on a Rose nearing 149,000.

According to the latest SoundScan figures, a total of five albums penetrated Billboard's top 10 — the fifth is "Weird Al" Yankovic's Straight Outta Lynwood, which opens at #10 with more than 74,000 sales. In at #6 is John Mayer's Continuum, with week-three sales reported at 91,000 and change, while Hinder's Extreme Behavior climbs three spots to #7, selling 77,000 units. Clay Aiken's A Thousand Different Ways falls six spots to #8 with 74,000 copies sold. And Fergie's The Dutchess follows at #9, chalking up second-week sales of nearly 74,000.

All told, 28 new releases break into Billboard's next top 200. Scissor Sisters' Ta-Dah opens at #19 with 42,000 scans — not bad considering the album was not stocked in some of the nation's largest record stores (see "Scissor Sisters' Ta-Dah Cut Out Of Major U.S. Retail Chains"). Saosin's self-titled disc claims #22 with 35,000 in week-one sales, while V, the debut from Vanessa Hudgens — best known for her role as Gabriella Montez in the Disney Channel movie "High School Musical" — bows at #24 with more than 34,000 sold.

At #37 is the Dave Matthews Band, with their four-disc set, Fenway Park, Boston, MA, July 7-8, 2006, selling more than 26,000 units. The self-titled debut from former "American Idol" contestant Mario Vazquez finishes at #80 with 12,000 scans, followed at #95 by Enigma's A Posteriori with 10,000 sales. Dave Hollister's The Book of David, Vol. 1: The Transition claims #98 with 10,000 copies sold, while Mewithoutyou's Brother Sister opens at #116 with 9,000 discs scanned. My Morning Jacket follow at #131 with Okonokos: Double Live Album selling more than 8,000 units, while Rhino Records' two-disc collection The Very Best of Jerry Garcia opens at #166 with 6,000 scans. And Medeski, Scofield, Martin & Wood's Out Louder ranks at #188 with 5,000 sold.

Check out "Think You Know Luda? Meet Chris Bridges" to step into the studio with the chart champ. And see "Justin's Future Shock" for more on Timberlake's LoveSounds.

If only "Weird Al" Yankovic had a few more weeks to work on Straight Outta Lynwood.

"It would have been nice to be able to do something on 'SexyBack,' but I just missed the deadline on that," the parody pro said.

In fact, Al's 12th studio album, due Tuesday (September 26), was supposed to be released in June, but just like when Coolio came out against "Amish Paradise" and Eminem kept Al from spoofing "Lose Yourself," he had an issue with one of his parodies.

"The original lead single was supposed to be my parody of 'You're Beautiful' by James Blunt called 'You're Pitiful,' " Al recalled. "We had gotten James Blunt's permission for the parody, but Atlantic Records ... felt it was too early in his career and that they didn't want to focus any more attention on 'You're Beautiful.' ... So I agreed to wait and hopefully they would let me put out the song, and a few months went by and finally we got the official word that the right time was never."

So, per his own rules (he is allowed to parody by law), Weird Al pulled the song from the LP -- but all was not lost.

"I decided that since the artist himself was OK with it and since it was basically just a bunch of suits that were doing something that wasn't even in their artist's best interest I really had no problem releasing the song on the Internet," he said.

Fortunately, there's plenty of other material on Straight Outta Lynwood, which Al discussed for MTV News, track by track:

1. "White & Nerdy"
"This, of course, is the Chamillionaire parody [of 'Ridin,' and Lynwood's first single], and this is the song that I was born to write, basically. I've been doing research on this song my entire life, so it's basically the culmination of a lifetime of work. It's also my first big-budget, live-action video in seven years, and it was a lot of fun to do. We got Donny Osmond to do the Krayzie Bone role, because obviously if you can't get Krayzie Bone, you get Donny Osmond."

2. "Pancreas"
"That's a style parody of Brian Wilson, an homage as it were. It's meant to sound similar to the music that he did for Smile and Pet Sounds, and it's basically a love song to my pancreas, because it came to my attention that not a lot of songs have been written about the pancreas. And I thought that it was a void in pop culture. Also because my pancreas has given so much to me over the years, I felt like I needed to give something back to it, so that's the reason for that."

3. "Canadian Idiot"
"That's a Green Day parody, but I won't tell you what it's a parody of; you'll just have to guess. I should point out to any Canadians that may see this that it is in fact ironic, and it's a joke, and I love Canada, and I hope they're not irony-impaired."

4. "I'll Sue Ya"
"Another original, done in the style of Rage Against the Machine. I thought it might be kind of fun to do a Rage-style parody, because there's a lot of anger and emotion in their humor. And instead of doing something politically charged, I thought it would be funny to have that kind of song and have it be about frivolous law suits."

5. "Polkarama!"
"Yet another one of my polka medleys. At this point, it's sort of mandatory for me to do a polka medley. Fans would be rioting in the streets, I think, if I didn't do a polka medley. And this particular one is like most of my others with, I'd say, a dozen or so contemporary rock and R&B songs done in polka style, the way God intended. Everything from Kanye West to 50 Cent to Franz Ferdinand to Black Eyed Peas."

6. "Virus Alert"
"Another original, talking about the dangers of what you may find in your inbox at work. And it's done sort of in the style of the band Sparks, particularly their mid-'70s work."

7. "Confessions, Pt. 3"
"This is my Usher parody. After hearing Usher do 'Confessions' and 'Confessions Pt. 2,' I couldn't help but think that maybe he'd left a few things out, that there were a few confessions he had yet to make. So I saved him the trouble of writing a sequel by doing it for him."

8. "Weasel Stomping Day"
"This is basically a song celebrating the most festive day of the year. It's done in the style of 1960s animated holiday specials. There's a video for this one done by the guys from [Cartoon Network's] 'Robot Chicken.' "

9. "Close But No Cigar"
"This is a song done in the style of the band Cake with a video done by John Kricfalusi of 'Ren & Stimpy' fame. It's a song about a guy who's just a little bit too picky. He continually finds women that are near perfect, but they've got one fatal flaw, which would probably be inconsequential to most, but it's the thing that he focuses on and it ruins the relationship for him."

10. "Do I Creep You Out"
"This is a Taylor Hicks parody of his song 'Do I Make You Proud,' just one of the many, many stalker songs in my oeuvre. I had to have some kind of allusion to the show on this album, and the timing worked out to the point that I was able to sneak that song on the album at the very last minute."

11. "Trapped in the Drive-Thru"
"My longest parody to date, it's my epic parody of 'Trapped in the Closet,' by R. Kelly. When I heard 'Trapped in the Closet,' I thought it was brilliant and wonderful and ridiculous all at the same, and I felt I had to do something with it, and I decided that I couldn't make it any more convoluted than it already was but thought that I could make it a little more stupid. So I made it about the most banal and mundane and trivial thing that I could think of, which is a couple's trip to the drive-thru."

12. "Don't Download This Song"
"This is meant to sound like '80s charity benefit songs like 'We are the World' and 'Hands Across America' and 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' And this video is by Academy Award-nominated animator Bill Plympton, and the reaction to this song has been very interesting to me, because a lot of people think it's an RIAA-bashing song that's pro-illegal downloading and other people take it unironically and think that I'm actually encouraging people not to download music off the Internet. And the truth of the matter is, my feelings toward the whole topic are somewhat gray, and I think that's actually kind of reflected in the lyrics. And I think both sides of the issue sometimes act hypocritically, and I just wanted to address the whole peer-to-peer downloading situation without taking too hard of a stand on either side."

For more than 25 years, "Weird Al" Yankovic has been an artist in search of respect.

Despite selling millions of records, winning three Grammys and starring in a feature film, the mainstream has never truly given him kudos. Of course, the way he chooses to ply his trade — penning sophomoric parodies of pop hits, breaking out the occasional accordion solo — probably has something to do with this.

So when news broke over the weekend that Al had been denied a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame despite an impassioned campaign led by his most devoted fans (see " 'Weird Al' Fans Tired Of People Not Walking All Over Him"), it probably wasn't a big surprise to the entertainment industry as a whole.

The same could not be said, however, for those close to Yankovic.

"I was disappointed that they overlooked him this year, because there's no doubt he deserves a star," David Rossi, the founder of WeirdAlStar.com, the site dedicated to the cause, told MTV News. "I'm not really sure why he was passed over, to be honest. I mean, Al is the top-selling comedy musician of all time. And I think that in general, people don't take him as seriously as they should. They see him as sort of a joke."

Late last month, boosted by a benefit concert featuring a host of "Weird Al" tribute acts, WeirdAlStar.com finally raised the $15,000 application fee necessary for Yankovic to be considered for a star. Rossi sent the paperwork to a special committee at the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to decide Al's fate.

But after approximately a month of debate, the Chamber instead bestowed the honor upon a list of Yankovic's competitors that includes Diddy, Mariah Carey, the Doors and Shania Twain.

"He did have some tough competition in his category, and I'm hoping that it had more to do with that than anything," Rossi said. "I don't know a lot about country music, or hip-hop and R&B, but I think those people are the tops in their class, and I think Al is the top of his class. I certainly congratulate all the musicians who will be getting their stars, and I hope Al will be joining them next year."

"Next year" appears to be the rallying cry for the Yankovic faithful. His application will automatically roll over to 2007, when the committee will once again consider his worthiness. And with a DVD coming out in August and a new album tentatively slotted for release later this year, Rossi thinks that there will be plenty more to add to Yankovic's résumé.

"We will send them an update in early 2007, just to keep them aware of all that Al's accomplished. The hard part on our side was raising the money, and now it's out of our hands," Rossi said. "We can't petition the committee, and we have to let Al's merits stand on their own. Hopefully the committee will notice them."

At press time, calls to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce had not been returned, and Yankovic's manager, Jay Levey, said his client was unavailable for comment.

In a career that spans more than 25 years, "Weird Al" Yankovic has sold more than 12 million records, won three Grammys, starred in a cult-classic film (1989's "UHF") and hosted his own Saturday morning kids' show. He's written odes to bologna and Spam, restored the accordion to its rightful place in the pantheon of ridiculous instruments and has — at various points throughout the years — rocked an Afro/mustache combo that would give even the most hirsute musicians pause.

Despite all these accomplishments, Yankovic is still lacking a milestone that has already been bestowed upon the likes of Billy Joel, Bob Marley and Britney Spears: He has no star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

A dedicated cadre of Yankovic's fans is looking to change that. Led by 31-year-old New Jerseyite David Rossi (who's met Al "dozens of times"), the group has launched WeirdAlStar.com, an online campaign dedicated to raising the necessary funds to get Al his own sparkling spot on the Walk of Fame.

"I was out in Hollywood being interviewed for VH1 with Al for a story they were doing, and I took the opportunity to check out the attractions, the most famous of which was the Walk of Fame," Rossi told MTV News. "I was taking a look at some of the stars on there, and I thought, 'Wait — Al is definitely on par with some of the people who have already gotten stars.' And I decided something should be done about that."

So Rossi sprung into action, contacting the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, the organization that oversees the Walk of Fame. He learned that in addition to the standard paperwork that went along with nominating Yankovic (a form explaining his qualifications, plus a letter from Yankovic stating that if he were inducted, he would actually show up), there was also a price tag: $15,000, which, according to the HCC, is used "to pay for the creation and installation of the star, as well as maintenance of the Walk of Fame."

"We didn't want to submit the application without the money, so we decided to launch the Web site, asking 'Weird Al' fans to donate money to the cause," Rossi explained. "We figured that if 15,000 fans each donated $1, we'd have no problem. And fans have responded. We've gotten donations as large at $750, and we're planning a benefit show for April 11 in Los Angeles."

So far the campaign has raised more than $8,500, and Rossi said he hopes to submit Yankovic's application in May. A committee will judge his worthiness based on "professional achievement, longevity of five years or more, contributions to the community and the guarantee that the celebrity will attend the ceremony if selected." If it's recommended by the committee, Yankovic's application would then be reviewed by the HCC's board of directors, who would put his nomination to a final vote. And if all goes according to plan (and why wouldn't it?), Yankovic would receive his star next summer.

Though Yankovic wasn't available for comment on the matter (he's currently in Europe), his longtime manager, Jay Levey, told MTV News that his client was "flattered and thinks that what the fans are doing is amazing," though he has no idea if he'll actually make the cut — a dose of humility that made Rossi laugh.

"He's the best-selling comedy artist of all time, so I think he should definitely make the cut," he said. "And aside from all his professional achievements, I believe he's given a lot to his fans. He's a good role model for young people, and he's got the most loyal fans because of that. There are stories of Al's music helping people through incredibly difficult personal situations, and I'd like to think that alone would be enough to get him a star on the Walk of Fame."

For the first time in "Weird Al" Yankovic's career, one of his albums has debuted in the top 20 without the benefit of a music video.

The reason is that Eminem didn't want Al parodying him in a clip for Poodle Hat's first single, "Couch Potato," which spoofs TV culture to the beat of "Lose Yourself." It's the first time an artist Al's parodied hasn't given him permission to do a video, and Al can't help but point out the irony.

"A lot of [Eminem]'s videos are very tongue-in-cheek," Weird Al said, "and he seems to have a great sense of humor, but he felt that a Weird Al video would somehow detract from his legacy and make people view him as a less serious hip-hop artist. I'm not exactly sure of the logic there, but those were his feelings and I have to respect that."

Actually, he doesn't. The law doesn't require him to respect the original artist's feelings, but Al said he always seeks permission and that he won't pursue a parody without the original artist's blessing (see "Weird Al Parodies 'Lose Yourself' But Won't Spoof Em's Video"). The only person to consistently deny him permission over the years has been Prince, when Weird Al sought to parody the Purple One's "When Doves Cry," "Kiss" and "1999."

"It seems strange to me because he seems like a wacky, funny guy, you know? Kooky," Al said. "I call him up every couple of years and say, 'Hey, Prince, it's Al. Just checking to see if you have a sense of humor yet. No? OK. Well, take care.' I would love to do one of hits from the past 10 years, but oh, he doesn't have any. Oops!"

Luckily for Weird Al, there were plenty of other artists to pilfer from, and Poodle Hat is rife with rips on artists who've recently occupied the charts, from Avril Lavigne to Nelly to the Backstreet Boys to just about every garage rock band that's been on the verge of breaking through ("Angry White Boy Polka").

"I'm just totally plugged into the culture," Weird Al said with a laugh. "I've got my finger on the pulse, as it were. I'm all about scanning the zeitgeist and trying to find the next big thang and then putting my own twist on it. Not everything on the album is going to be the most current thing, because my albums are like time capsules."

This time capsule around, Weird Al managed to combine topics such as auction sites and boy bands into one song, called "eBay" and set to the tune of the Backstreet Boys' "I Want It That Way."

"It's been four years since my last album, and I couldn't let the whole boy band phenomenon go unnoticed, so I had to put the Backstreet Boys or 'NSYNC on there. And I love scanning eBay. It's pretty kooky; it's a worldwide garage sale. Somebody was selling autographed Weird Al albums, and I looked at the picture and 'Weird' was spelled wrong, so I think that might not be authentic. Buyer beware."

Though Weird Al said he's constantly coming up with ideas, he takes pride in the fact that he's not constantly putting out music.

"Morning radio DJs have to get it out, and they're quick, quick, quick," he said. "I don't want to be an assembly line. I don't want to be onstage performing some song that I dashed off in a couple of minutes. I pretty much know when I get an idea if it's enough to sustain a whole song, or if it's a one-joke thing that nobody's going to care about. And I prefer having the time to craft my lyrics, which sounds like a lofty term for what I do, but I like to get it right."

Already, Weird Al is casting his net for future targets, eyeing 50 Cent for signs of longevity and Snoop Dogg for his cultural cachet.

"Everyone's going to get the Weird Al treatment someday. Everyone!" he threatened. "We need as much comedy in our culture as we can get. There's enough people in the world that do serious music. I'll leave that to Michael Bolton."

Who knows the streets better than DJ Kay Slay? In addition to his proficiency on the 1s and 2s, this week Kay Slay can officially add Streetsweeper to his resume. The album features "50 Shot Ya," by 50 Cent, "Purple Haze" by the Diplomats and Cam'ron, and "Freestyle" by Eminem.

Staind expose 14 Shades of Grey on their latest album, which includes a DVD documenting the band's history, concert footage and behind-the-scenes action, while the Deftones show their action in the song titles. See songs like "Moana," "When Girls Telephone Boys" and "Anniversary of an Uninteresting Event."

Former Poison frontman Bret Michaels gives us Songs of Life, and on another solo effort, former Onyx member Fredro Starr offers the sage advice Don't Get Mad, Get Money.

Other notable releases: Cherrywine, the band fronted by former Digable Planets principal Ishmael "Butterfly" Butler, and their Bright Black, with its funked-up, spaced-out sounds; and Starlight Mints' second album, Built on Squares, whose quirky pop reveals subtle nods to the Pixies, the Kinks, Pavement and the Flaming Lips.

Finally, Weird Al Yankovic kicks out the jams on Poodle Hat, featuring his "Lose Yourself" parody, "Couch Potato."

Taking Eminem's advice, "Weird Al" Yankovic is seizing the moment.

The first single from Yankovic's new album, Poodle Hat, is a commentary on America's obsession with television set to the tune of "Lose Yourself." Weird Al's "Couch Potato" begins ceremoniously with the satirical icon asking, "If you had one shot to sit on your lazy butt/ And watch all the TV you ever wanted/ Till your brain turned to mush/ Would you go for it?"

Eminem gave his blessing for the parody, but not a video for Yankovic's rendition of the "8 Mile" anthem, according to a spokesperson for Weird Al, who is not legally required to get permission from artists. Still, for the first time in his 20-year career, he will not have a video for his lead single.

Poodle Hat, due May 20, will also include parodies of Avril Lavigne's "Complicated" ("A Complicated Song"), Nelly's "Hot in Herre" ("Trash Day"), the Backstreet Boys' "I Want It That Way" ("E-Bay") and Billy Joel's "Piano Man" ("Ode to a Superhero").

The album will also include the usual Yankovic accordion medley, a track called "Angry White Boy Polka" that includes covers Papa Roach's "Last Resort," System of a Down's "Chop Suey!," the Vines' "Get Free," the Hives' "Hate to Say I Told You So," the White Stripes' "Fell in Love With a Girl," the Strokes' "Last Nite," Disturbed's "Down With the Sickness," Rage Against the Machine's "Renegades of Funk," Limp Bizkit's "My Way," Staind's "Outside," Kid Rock's "Bawitdaba," P.O.D.'s "Youth of the Nation" and Eminem's "The Real Slim Shady."

Yankovic wrote several of his own songs for the album, including "Hardware Store," "Party at the Leper Colony," "Wanna B Ur Lovr" and "Bob," an homage to Bob Dylan.

Ben Folds appears on an original called "Why Does This Always Happen to Me," and Dweezil Zappa plays guitar on a nine-minute tribute to his father, Frank Zappa, called "Genius in France."

Yankovic, a multiple-Grammy winner whose memorable hits include "Eat It," "Like a Surgeon," "Smells Like Nirvana," "Amish Paradise" and "The Saga Begins," will promote his 11th studio album with a summer tour kicking off June 19 in Del Mar, California.

After scoring a gold "comeback" album with last year's "Running With Scissors," "Weird Al" Yankovic will head out on the road next month to support the release, his best-selling album since 1988's "Even Worse."
Prior to the tour launch, Yankovic plans to take part in a special tribute to late comedian Andy Kaufman. The comic musician will join Kaufman's former manager, George Shapiro, and "Man On The Moon" screenwriter Larry Karaszewski on January 29 on "The J. Keith van Straaten Show."
Van Straaten hosts the weekly event every Saturday night at the Acme Comedy Theatre in Los Angeles. Even though the program is modeled after "The Tonight Show," it is not televised, only performed in front of a live audience -- a special twist that Yankovic seems to appreciate.
The Kaufman-themed "episode" of "The J. Keith van Straaten Show" is scheduled to begin at 10:30 p.m. (PT), and tickets are available from the Acme Comedy Theater Box Office at (323) 525-0202.
