The new album from Destiny's Child is going to be called Destiny Fulfilled and will hit stores November 16. The first single, "Lose My Breath," is being sent to radio this week. Meanwhile, Beyoncé and her mom/stylist, Tina Knowles, have announced the name of their clothing line, due in the fall of 2005. The House of Dereon is named after Beyoncé's grandmother, who worked as a seamstress and started Tina's lessons in fashion. "To me, this is the greatest way to enter into the fashion world," Beyoncé said in a statement Wednesday. "Inspired by my grandmother, working with my mother, and pursuing a dream we all had for many years, establishing an important fashion company." ...

One of Jennifer Lopez's prized possessions has become a casualty of Hurricane Frances. A 28-foot Regal boat J. Lo had docked outside her Miami Beach mansion was shown little mercy by the devastating storm. A salvaging crew was called in on Labor Day to dispose of the shredded yacht. The boat was not the same one J. Lo used to arrive at the MTV Video Music Awards. ... Genocide in Sudan, a benefit CD featuring songs from System of a Down, Jill Scott, Jurassic 5, Yoko Ono and Danger Mouse, hits stores November 23. All profits will go to the United Nations Refugee Agency and UNICEF to help build awareness of the humanitarian crisis in Sudan. ...

Court documents released Tuesday reveal some of the evidence that will be admitted and other evidence that will likely be suppressed in the Michael Jackson child-molestation trial. In the documents, originally filed August 20, many of the items taken during the Neverland Ranch raid and tentatively admitted into evidence — previously only identified by number — are briefly described, such as a dozen computers, a camera, videotape recordings, a tissue, books, bags, various paperwork, an audio cassette recorder, a cassette titled "Earth Song 6-8-89," keys to the master bedroom, an envelope, print ads, a letter, and a case with phone-recording equipment. As for items that are likely to be suppressed, police also confiscated photographs from the Neverland arcade, additional photos found in a safe, a book on robotic dogs, a November 2003 calendar, a Garden City Hotel bag, medicine bottles, a medical log and daily entry logs for the ranch. The next hearing in the case is scheduled to start September 16. ...

A posthumous release from Elliott Smith is about to hit shelves this fall. The DVD "Elliott Smith - Olympia, Washington" features the late musician's solo set on the closing night of the five-day Yoyo A Go Go festival in 1999, including such songs as "Independence Day," "Stupidity Tries," "Easy Way Out," and "See You Later." It's due on November 30 ... Influential post-punk outfit Wire are releasing a DVD/CD set that showcases the only known recording of one of their '70s performances, taken from their oft-bootlegged hour-long studio concert slot on the German rock music show "Rockpalast" on February 14, 1979. "Wire on the Box," due October 26, includes songs such as "Pink Flag," "Former Airline" and "A Touching Display," as well as a 20-minute interview with the band. ... Former Dismemberment Plan singer Travis Morrison will release his debut solo record, The Republic of Travistan, September 28 on Barsuk Records. In anticipation of the album, Morrison has been playing solo shows featuring dismembered (er, Morrison-reworked) covers of Ludacris, Mary J. Blige and Death Cab for Cutie as well as show tunes and spirituals. Band shows in support of the new album begin Saturday in Arlington, Virginia. ...

9.07.2004

213 may have taken the easy way out when making the The Hard Way, according to DJ Battlecat. The producer behind tunes for Busta Rhymes, Brian McKnight, Xzibit, WC and Faith Evans filed a copyright-infringement suit against 213 members Snoop Dogg, Warren G and Nate Dogg and their record label on Thursday for allegedly using his work on three songs without permission. ...

Trapt will reissue their 2002 self-titled debut in the dual DVD/CD format on October 19. The set features a 5.1 surround-sound mix and videos for the songs "Headstrong," "Still Frame" and "Echo." Additional extras include live clips, a photo gallery and two bonus songs: "Lost in a Portrait" from the soundtrack to "The Punisher" and the B-side "Promise." ... A limited-edition version of Korn's imaginatively titled greatest-hits package, Greatest Hits, Vol. 1, will be released alongside the standard version of the album on October 5. The limited-edition disc comes with a DVD capturing the band's concert at New York's CBGBs earlier this year. ...

Auf Der Maur and the Von Bondies are heading out on the road for a co-headlining North American club tour beginning September 16 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Seventeen shows, including stops in Chicago, New York, Philadelphia and Detroit, have been announced with more to come. ... A Guns N' Roses semi-reunion of sorts took place Sunday in Bologna, Italy, when guitarist Izzy Stradlin joined his old bandmates in Velvet Revolver onstage for the GN'R classic "It's So Easy." Stradlin left the band in 1991 and was replaced by Gilby Clarke. ...

A beer named after Madonna was created by U.K. brewers JW Lees to commemorate her visit to Manchester during her Re-invention Tour. According to those who've imbibed Material Girl Ale, it has a nutty flavor. ... More than 770 items from the estate of Johnny and June Carter Cash will be put up for auction at Sotheby's beginning September 14. The auction, which coincides with the one-year anniversary of the Man in Black's passing, features such items as stage-worn clothing, platinum records, handwritten lyrics and even the singer's 2002 Ford F-150 pickup. ... While writing and recording their next album, due next summer, 311 will release a concert DVD that relives March's 3-11 Day concert in New Orleans. The group plans to revisit the Big Easy next March 11. ...

"The Simpsons" may have rocked with the Stones and Paul McCartney, but when show creator Matt Groening was tapped to curate the upcoming All Tomorrow's Parties festival in Los Angeles, his musical tastes proved more esoteric.

Groening's initial list of bands for the latest in the ongoing series of underground music festivals includes: ... And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, the Breeders, Wire, Yo La Tengo, the Fall, Neko Case and the Boredoms, according to an event spokesperson.

The shows are slated for June 18 and 19 at UCLA's Royce Hall and June 20-22 at three other as-yet-unannounced venues. Also scheduled to perform are: the Bangs, Blonde Redhead, DJ Coldcut, the Danielson Famile, Melt-Banana, Jah Wobble and the Melvins. The event will include a tribute to pioneering psychedelic rocker Captain Beefheart, featuring former members of his backing group, the Magic Band.

The tribute will mark the first time Magic Band members Mark "Rockette" Morton Boston (bass), John "Drumbo" French (drums), Gary "Mantis" Lucas (guitar) and Denny "Feelers Reebo" Walley (guitar) have performed Beefheart's music together in more than 20 years.

The Los Angeles event will be preceded by a U.K. edition April 4-6 in Camber Sands, England, curated by techno act Autechre. The Magic Band and the Fall will also perform at that event, along with Public Enemy, El-P, Aphex Twin, Carl Craig, Kool Keith, Jim O'Rourke, LFO and several dozen other artists.
