Howard Stern's fans know her as "the lovely Beth O," the object of Double A's affections and the svelte blond model who's been by the shock jock's side since 2000. But on October 3, Stern and Beth Ostrosky made it official, tying the knot after a 20-month engagement.

They had a quiet ceremony officiated by Mark Consuelos, the husband of "Live With Regis & Kelly" co-host Kelly Ripa, and held at the ritzy Le Cirque restaurant in Manhattan. The wedding was attended by 180 guests, including Joan Rivers, Chevy Chase, Rob Zombie, Jimmy Kimmel, Sarah Silverman, John Stamos, Barbara Walters and Donald Trump. During the evening, the Sterns were serenaded by 1970s songbird Phoebe Snow, who sang the wedding classic "You Send Me," and Billy Joel entertained guests with a rendition of "The Stranger" during the reception. Train's Patrick Monahan also performed before the night was through.

(Check out pictures of Sarah Silverman, Rob Zombie and more celeb guests at the wedding.)

"Chevy Chase doing an impromptu [and X-rated] speech was fun," Ostrosky told MTV News on Monday night outside the New York premiere of "Filth and Wisdom," a new film that marks Madonna's directorial debut. "Billy Joel serenading us was not planned, and my best friend got up and spoke. Jimmy Kimmel made a surprise speech at the altar as Mark Consuelos was officiating. It was so much fun."

The last few weeks have been especially busy for Mrs. Howard Stern, 36, who has been training for the upcoming New York City Marathon, set for November 2. Ostrosky, who is a vocal proponent of animal rights, is participating in the marathon to raise money for the North Shore Animal League. She hopes to raise more than $250,000 for her cause, which fans can support by visiting her Web site, GoBethO.org.

All the proceeds raised through Ostrosky's sponsorships will benefit the Animal League's mission to find permanent homes for more than 20,000 orphaned animals.

"Between getting married, the honeymoon and my marathon training, it's been crazy," she said. "I did my first 20-mile [run] on Saturday, and we moved. We've moved into a new apartment, so it's all at once."

How did Ostrosky keep up her training amid all the hectic wedding planning? "That, to me, is the top priority," she said of the marathon. "The getting-married part was easy. The planning was a little more difficult, but it was the training that took top priority."

Mary J. And Jamie Are No Match For #1 Manilow

Barry Manilow sings about writing songs that make the whole world sing — the songs, he's claimed, that make the young girls cry. But this week, R&B diva Mary J. Blige might be the only one sobbing — thanks to a collection of songs that Barry didn't write.

It was a close race to Billboard's winners' circle, but in the end, The Greatest Songs of the Fifties — a collection of hits from the golden years produced by none other than Clive Davis — bests Blige's The Breakthrough by a formidable nose.

According to the latest SoundScan totals, sales of Manilow's album — which were helped along by the pop icon's appearance last week on ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" — came in at just under 156,000, to secure The Greatest Songs of the Fifties the top spot on the albums chart. Despite a 25 percent hike in retail mobility, Blige's The Breakthrough couldn't keep up and finished at #2 with 123,000 scans.

The next closest threat to Manilow's reign came from Tuscan-born tenor Andrea Bocelli and his Amore, which opens at #3 with week-one sales of 113,000. One of the top five's most recent and stable leaders, Jamie Foxx's Unpredictable, continues to slide. The disc, which finished third last week, checks in at #4 with a 95,000-plus performance. In My Mind, the latest studio LP from R&B songbird Heather Headley, follows at #5 with debut-week sales of just over 95,000. Headley's LP features contributions from Lil Jon, Shaggy, Babyface and Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.

Simon Cowell-conceived pop act Il Divo's Ancora tumbles from #1 to #6, thanks to a 40 percent drop in retail interest. In its second week in stores, the disc sold more than 93,000 copies. Eminem's Curtain Call: The Hits climbs one spot to #7 with 78,000 units sold, while "American Idol" champ Carrie Underwood's Some Hearts claims the sales chart's #8 opening with 74,000 sales — just enough to push total sales of her debut past the 2-million mark. James Blunt's Back to Bedlam returns to the top 10 at #9, following last week's stint at #11. A 47 percent sales surge helped the Brit rocker move more than 71,000 units during the album's 18th week at retail.

Train return to the Billboard albums chart this week with For Me It's You, the band's fifth full-length effort. With first-week sales of 62,000 and then some, the band is sitting comfortably at the #10 spot. But Train weren't the chart's sole rock newcomer: Monster Ballads: Platinum Edition, a collection of hair-metal tearjerkers, debuts at #18 with 44,000 copies sold. The compilation features Poison's "Every Rose Has Its Thorn," Warrant's "Heaven," Extreme's "More Than Words," and Cinderella's "Don't Know What You Got (Till It's Gone)," among others. And the self-titled debut from brood-rockers She Wants Revenge opens at #38 with sales nearing 26,000.

Several Grammy nominees enjoyed a sales boost in the week leading up to the big night. Mariah Carey's The Emancipation of Mimi finished at #14 with 53,000 copies sold — a sales jump of 37 percent. Sales of the Black Eyed Peas' Monkey Business swelled 21 percent, giving the group the chart's #17 slot and another 46,000 scans. Demon Days from the Gorillaz ends the week at #49 with 20,000 in sales (a 19 percent spike) and John Legend's Get Lifted returns to the top 200 at #187 following a 40 percent sales leap.

See "The Metamorphosis Of Jamie Foxx" for a feature on the actor's move to music. And check out "What's the 411, Mary" for Blige's answers to celebrity questions.

This Election Day, some artists are hoping you make your voice heard at voting booths and then at the record stores.

Releasing their politically charged third album on Tuesday (November 2) was a conscious decision for A Perfect Circle. Their eMOTIVe is a 12-song disc, of which 10 tracks are covers of songs like John Lennon's "Imagine," Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On," "People Are People" by Depeche Mode, and "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding" by Nick Lowe (performed most famously by Elvis Costello). The two original tracks, "Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums" and "Passive," rally against apathy.

Somewhat less political is the new album by the Ying Yang Twins, My Brother & Me. The follow-up to 2003's Me and My Brother is a CD/DVD combo featuring 10 new songs, performance and behind-the-scenes footage, three videos, and collaborations on the album with Lil Jon, Juvenile, Fat Joe and others.

The 17th installment of the massively successful Now That's What I Call Music! series hits stores Tuesday with tracks by Ciara ("Goodies"), the Beastie Boys ("Ch-Check It Out"), Franz Ferdinand ("Take Me Out"), Nelly ("My Place") and Black Eyed Peas ("Let's Get It Started"), among a slew of others.

Also out this week are albums by the Rolling Stones (Live Licks); AFI (AFI); Catch 22 (Live); and Train (Alive at Last).

Jersey City, New Jersey, police think the shots fired outside a Doubletree Hotel on September 10 allegedly targeting 50 Cent could be linked to the rapper's feud with Lil' Kim, according to the New York Daily News. The newspaper reports that police are investigating Damion "World" Hardy, a 28-year-old ex-con who is also reportedly Kim's boyfriend. 50 and Kim have been engaged in a war of words ever since 50 pulled out of Kim's video for "Magic Stick," a hit record he wrote for her. Though Hell on Earth promised a live suicide as part of their act this weekend, whether or not they actually delivered is a matter of debate. The little-known Florida metal band had planned to let a terminally ill friend commit suicide onstage, but when local authorities filed an injunction against the group, the band decided to host the suicide at a separate, undisclosed location, which would be broadcast over the Internet. But that, too, ran into difficulties, when Hell on Earth's Web site was locked up due to a flood of data, which the operator of the host site characterized as a denial-of-service attack. No video was shown on the Web page, and no suicides were reported in the St. Petersburg area, according to the St. Petersburg Times, though an Internet shock jock for www.radiofreesatan.com <http://www.radiofreesatan.com/> claims he has video of what purports to be a man committing suicide, but even he says he doesn't believe it's real. ...

They can play faster, sound rougher, take an extended hiatus, and even lose a longtime member, and still Metallica can't seem to do any wrong in the eyes of their fans.

Despite an abbreviated sales week, St. Anger, Metallica's first album of new material in five years, sold more than 417,000 copies in its first week, according to SoundScan, to top next week's Billboard albums chart. When it became apparent that the songs had been leaked online before the original June 10 release date, Elektra Records pushed up the album's availability five days to June 5 (see "Metallica To Unleash Their Anger Earlier Than Planned").

The titanic metallers' previous albums Reload (1997) and Load (1996) also debuted at #1, with sales of 417,000 and 680,000, respectively. Their double covers LP, Garage Inc., came in at #2 in 1998, with sales of more than 426,000.

Newly tarted-up Jewel will follow Metallica at #2 with 0304. The shift to dance-pop on her fourth LP didn't change her first-week take that much, however. 0304's total of 143,000 is just 3,000 more than what its predecessor, This Way, pulled in its opening week two years ago.

Fans responded to Train's decree "Calling All Angels," allowing the band's third album, My Private Nation, to place at #6. The follow-up to 2001's double-platinum Drops of Jupiter sold more than 86,000 copies.

Train will be trailed on the chart by country quartet Lonestar, whose first greatest-hits collection sold more than 86,000 copies to come in at #7.

Featuring 50 rare and unreleased tracks from skate-punk scenesters such as the Used, Less Than Jake, Simple Plan, NOFX and others, the double LP Warped Tour 2003 will take the #21 spot; while Sugar Ray's In the Pursuit of Leisure will drop in at a disappointing #29. With its fifth album the band will make its poorest chart showing since its 1997 breakthrough LP, Floored. John Mellencamp's Trouble No More, consisting of covers of blues and folk tunes by Robert Johnson, Woody Guthrie and Son House, among others, will find a home at #31.

Albums that complete next week's top 10 are 50 Cent's Get Rich or Die Tryin', which moves a spot down to #3 (98,000) and cracks the 5 million mark in the process; Evanescence's Fallen, also taking a step back, at #4 (90,000); the soundtrack to "2 Fast 2 Furious," advancing three places to #5 (88,000) with a 13,000-copy boost to coincide with the film's release; the soundtrack to "Lizzie McGuire," slipping two spots to #8 (80,000); former top LP Led Zeppelin's How the West Was Won sinking eight places to #9 (75,000); and Kelly Clarkson's Thankful falling from #4 to #10 (74,000).

On the heels of their performance at the MTV Movie Awards, T.A.T.U.'s 200 KM/H in the Wrong Lane will make a significant leap forward. A medley that merged "All the Things She Said" with their latest single, "Not Gonna Get Us," helped almost double the album's weekly sales and push it from #127 to #71.

With the momentum of a cover of "Drift Away" featuring Dobie Gray, who himself had a top 10 hit with the song in 1973, Uncle Kracker's No Stranger to Shame has been advancing steadily up the chart. Having vacated placements in the #138 and #116 spots, the second solo album by Kid Rock's DJ will re-enter the top 100 at #92.

Other notable chart debuts include Ultimate Smash Hits, featuring contributions by Avril Lavigne, P. Diddy and Pink, at #55; Americana singer/songwriter Gillian Welch's Soul Journey at #107; Depeche Mode frontman Dave Gahan's solo debut at #127; Dolly Parton's Ultimate Dolly Parton at #130; and the Eels' Shootenanny! at #145.

Sugar Ray is In the Pursuit of Leisure, and that process apparently involves Mark McGrath and company reuniting with their longtime producer, David Kahne. The new album features the group's usual mix of '80s-inspired tunes, a flirtation with hip-hop, and lighthearted party songs, plus a cover of Joe Jackson's "Is She Really Going Out with Him" and the first single, "Mr. Bartender (It's So Easy)."

Jewel channels her inner Prince on 0304, using such song titles as "Run 2 U," "Yes U Can," and "U & Me = Love." Meanwhile, Nina Nastasia issues the beautifully haunting album Run to Ruin, engineered by Steve Albini, and Northern State, the all-girl hip-hop group from Long Island, New York, who fancy themselves a Beastie Boys for a new generation, is Dying in Stereo.

Eels deliver Shootenanny!, a solid pop album, while Souls She Said, a band featuring former members of the Icarus Line and Ink and Dagger, release the EP Rub the Sleep Out. Also out this week is Paper Monsters, the debut solo album from Depeche Mode's David Gahan.

The Yes New York compilation features Longwave, the Walkmen, and the Strokes on a live recording of "New York City Cops." Another team effort, Warped Tour 2003, contains songs from the Used, NoFX and Andrew W.K., among other performers at this year's festival.

Finally, indie hip-hop heads, Aceyalone and Saul Williams both release albums this week. The emcees espouse their political poetry on Love and Hate and Not in Our Name, respectively. Also on the independent hip-hop radar is S.A Smash/Cage's Smashy Trashy, produced by El-P and featuring Def Jux favorite Aesop Rock.

There's nothing unique about musicians contributing songs to movie
soundtracks, but India.Arie, Train and other artists are being asked to watch
screenings of the upcoming Vietnam war film "We Were Soldiers" before
submitting their tracks, a practice usually reserved for score composers.

"There's just something creatively fulfilling about watching a movie and
writing a song for it because it helps you put on another pair of shoes,"
said Arie, who wrote the acoustic ballad "Good Man" for the movie.

The song tells the story of a family man who gets shipped off to battle
and he and his wife have to face the possibility he might not be coming
home.

"It's about something I've never been through," Arie said. "This woman and
her husband got married really young and had a baby and made the pact,
'Whatever happens, meet me in heaven.' "

Train wrote the title track for "We Were Soldiers," and are currently
working on it in the studio. Five for Fighting's song is not yet finished or
titled.

Another highlight on the disc, which comes out February 26, is a
collaboration between Dave Matthews and Johnny Cash called "For You" (see "Dave Matthews Collaborates With Cash For Mel Gibson Movie"). Since the song was written by Steve Rosen and country singer Paul Brandt, neither Cash nor Matthews was asked to catch a movie screening.

Soundtrack co-producer Ken Levitan invited the two to work together, and
since they shared a mutual respect for one another's work, both were happy to
accept the offer. However, Cash and Matthews recorded their parts in
different locations. Cash laid down guitar and vocals at his plantation
studio in the Caribbean and then sent the tape to Matthews. Cash's manager
has described the track as a dark alternative/country song.

The "We Were Soldiers" soundtrack will also feature a duet between Michael
McDonald (Doobie Brothers, Steely Dan) and Jamie O'Neal called "Not So
Distant Day"; a cut by Mary Chapin Carpenter called "My Dear Old Friend,"
which was written by Patty Griffin; and a tune by Christian rock band Jars
of Clay.

"We Were Soldiers," which hits theaters March 1, was directed by
Randall Wallace ("The Man in the Iron Mask"). It stars Mel Gibson as Lt. Col.
Hal Moore, who sends his soldiers in to fight the first major battle of the
Vietnam War. The conflict took place on November 14, 1965, in the Ia Drang Valley,
a village the French unsuccessfully tried to capture years before. The U.S.
Army anticipated a quick search-and-destroy mission but wound up entrenched
in a prolonged and bloody jungle battle that cost many lives.

The movie also stars Madeleine Stowe, Sam Elliott and Greg Kinnear, and is
based on the book "We Were Soldiers Once ... and Young" by Lt. Gen. Harold G.
Moore and Joseph L. Galloway.
