The R&B trio of Total has already earned gold status for its Top 10 single, "Trippin'," the Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott-produced track from the group's new album, "Kima, Keisha & Pam," and now Total plans to bare it all for an upcoming magazine cover.
Well, maybe not "all," but an awful lot, as the group is the subject of a feature spread in the new issue of "One World" magazine, which also features a shot of the Total girls -- in their birthday suits -- gracing the cover.
In a recent MTV Radio Network interview, Total talked about its new attitude of empowerment that may shed a little light on the group's decision to do the semi-nude pic.
"We definitely represent strong women," Kima said, "and we just feel like women should express themselves more. You shouldn't be afraid to express yourself, 'cause we've been held back for so long, like [people will say], 'A woman can't do this, a woman can't say that,' and that's just not true. We can say and do anything."
No word
yet on what Total plans to say as its next single, but we'll keep you posted.

Total "Tripped" Up By Missy Elliott's Production Style

Total has just released its new self-titled album, "Kima, Keisha & Pam," which features production work from Heavy D, Missy Elliott, Puff Daddy and Steven Jordan -- with the latter two having previously handled songs on the girls' 1996 album.
Elliott manned the boards for Total's new single, "Trippin'," and in addition to laying down a vocal part on the track, Missy's approach to recording the song forced them to work in a manner they weren't used to.
"She does not play," vocalist Keisha told the MTV Radio Network of Elliott's production style. "We could be in the studio joking, laughing, preparing, and Missy [would come in and say] 'OK, Keisha. I just need Keisha. No one else can come in.' And I think that's really dope. It was different for us because Total was just always together. I think she wanted to have a taste of the individuality [in order] to bring us together."
In addition to the heavy-duty producers, several of Total's Bad Boy labelmates make convenient supporting
contributions, including Mase and 112.

While noted hip-hop video visionary Hype Williams won't deliver his big screen debut "Belly" to theaters until later this week, he already has plans for a follow-up, or so say the ladies of Total.

The female trio from Bad Boy Records recently told the MTV Radio Network that Williams has his eye on at least one of them, group member Keisha, for his next movie.

"It's supposed to be some type of horror flick, and it's gonna be filmed somewhere in Jamaica," Total's Kima said of the project. "So that'll be nice. I'll be getting a tan at the same time," Keisha joked about the potential shoot.
In addition to the film's exotic locale, Keisha also noted that Williams' unique approach to filmmaking drew her to the project.
"I actually have to call him because he's basically basing the characters around that person's personality,"
Keisha said of the film. "I just want to hear how he perceives me because he just thinks that I'm really interesting and he's been saying this for a long time so I can definitely appreciate it because he's like Puffy to me." [28.8 RealVideo]

Of course, there's music to be made first, and Total's new album, "Kima, Keisha, and Pam," will arrive in stores this week.

Total Goes After Amtrak For $50 Million

October 14 [10:00 EDT] -- The R&B vocal trio Total held a press conference in Washington, D.C. on Monday to announce that the group is suing Amtrak for $50 million after an incident involving Da Brat, Amtrak Police, and pepper spray.

Total charges the railroad with assault and battery, false arrest, and false imprisonment in an incident that occurred two weeks ago in D.C.'s Union Station (and which we first reported on earlier this month, see "Da Brat Threatens Suit After Amtrak Arrest" in the MTV News Gallery).

The group was there with Da Brat when Amtrak's Federal Police charged them all with disorderly conduct and sprayed them with pepper spray. Amtrak claims the action were taken because Total and Da Brat started singing loudly after being asked to turn down their radio, and that one of the bodyguards with the entourage then made a menacing motion prompting the pepper spray.

Total says the officer took deliberate aim at them, and that they were even asked to remove their pants to be searched.

Da Brat is currently out of the country, but shortly after the incident she said she was planning a suit of her own.

Amtrak says that Da Brat and two members of Total paid their fines without complaint, and is consequently perplexed by the suit.
