It's been over a year since alternative-pop group Toad The Wet Sprocket called it quits, and now fans can get a look back at the band's entire career via "P.S. (A Toad Retrospective)."
The single CD compilation, due in stores on November 9, includes the group's greatest hits, as well as some of their personal favorite tracks, and also features two previously unreleased cuts.
Giving fans a glimmer of hope that it's not really all over for Toad is one of those unreleased tracks: "P.S.," which the band members reunited in the studio to record especially for this collection. The original version of "P.S.," not included on this compilation, was previously available only to the band's fan club.
Whether or not Toad The Wet Sprocket use their recent "P.S." session as a springboard for a full scale reunion remains to be seen. The group broke in July of 1998 on seemingly amicable terms, and the former members were quick to move on to other projects (see "Toad The Wet Sprocket Falls Down, Breaks-Up" and "Remnants Of Toad The Wet Sprocket Recording, Touring").
Here's what you'll get on "P.S. (A Toad Retrospective)":

"P.S."
Remnants Of Toad The Wet Sprocket Recording, Touring

The remnants of Toad the Wet Sprocket are getting back to making music. Guitarist Todd Nichols and bassist Dean Dinning are currently in a studio in Vancouver, cutting tracks that will likely form the base of their new album, while singer Glen Phillips is heading out on tour.
Toad The Wet Sprocket croaked as a band in late July citing the well-worn 'creative differences.' Phillips fronted the band and was largely responsible for the lyrics, Nichols wrote or co-wrote the band's music.
According to manager Chris Burke, the group's label, Sony, has the first options on projects by the individual members, and they're making full use of their allotted 90 days option time. But while the label has yet to inform Burke of their intentions regarding either faction, that hasn't stopped Nichols and Dinning from cutting four songs with Vancouver's Craig Northey, a member of the Odds. The project is as yet untitled.
Meanwhile, Burke reports that Phillips will be spending the month
of October on the road headlining an acoustic tour that also features X's John Doe, Jewel co-writer Steve Poltz, and Pete Droge. The road trip kicks off October 13 in Solano Beach, California.

Toad The Wet Sprocket Falls Down, Breaks-Up

After 12 years of cranking out midtempo, alternative jangle pop, the Santa Barbara, California-based Toad the Wet Sprocket have called it quits.

A statement issued by Toad's management last Friday on the band's official website cited "emerging differences" as the reason for the break-up, and a publicist for Toad's label confirmed that the band was indeed no more.

"In recent months it became harder to keep everyone satisfied within the confines of the band," said singer Glenn Phillips in the statement. "It felt like if we stayed together much longer, the tensions would hurt both the music and our friendships."

Toad, which formed in 1986 from a collection of high school friends, released its debut album, "Bread & Circus" in 1989 and went on to score platinum success in 1991 with the album "Fear," which was catapulted up the charts by two hummable, ear-candy singles, "All I Want" and "Walk on the Ocean."

The group's 1994 effort, "Dulcinea," also went platinum,
but interest in the band sagged with its two most recent releases, "In Light Syrup," a 1995 collection of previously unreleased material, and last year's studio album, "Coil."

Toad the Wet Sprocket had attempted to start work on a new album several times in the past few months, but eventually decided to disband rather than proceed with the recording.

"By ending the band now," Phillips said, "we can look back on our career together with a sense of pride and pleasure."
