The western territory of Texas is not especially renowned as a musical breeding ground, but The Rocketboys, having spent the first years of their career in the unassuming town of Abilene, created an anthemic, ambient sound that matched the expansive landscape in which they lived. Composed of six guys who met in college, The Rocketboys formed in late 2005 and over the next few years found time to record and release two E.P.'s and two live DVD's, embark on multiple national and regional tours and amass a substantial fanbase throughout Texas and the South.
Moving to Austin, TX. in 2009, the band released their debut full-length album, 20,000 Ghosts at the end of last year. Recorded in Austin by Louie Lino (Nada Surf, Matt Pond PA), the album showcases The Rocketboys' signature sound -- a balance between straightforward, drum-driven indie rock, atmospheric layers, and transcendant lyrics and melodies. They've been called "Arcade Fire for shoegazers", "Coldplay for the blog scene" and " The South's answer to Band Of Horses".
The Rocketboys have played and toured with artists such as Eisley,Grizzly Bear, and Art Brut, as well as performing at festivals including Austin City Limits, Next Big Nashville, SXSW and CMJ. The songs from 20,000 Ghosts have appeared in shows such as Keeping Up with the Kardashians, The Real World, The Buried Life, Bad Girls Club and the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
