Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland will be in the family spirit this Thanksgiving, as he and wife Mary Forsberg are celebrating the birth of their first child, a baby boy named Noah Mercer Weiland.

Noah was born at an undisclosed location on Sunday and weighed in at 7 pounds, 10 ounces, according to a birth announcement issued by STP's management reps.

"It was the most glorious moment in my life," Weiland said in the announcement. "He is healthy, wealthy, and wiser than me."

Weiland and Forsberg were wed in Los Angeles in May, about three months following the singer's release from the drug rehab center at the L.A. County Jail. The singer had been sent to the facility in August 1999 for probation violations.

STP wrapped its headlining stint on MTV's Return of the Rock Tour on November 10 in Phoenix, and the band's publicist said that the group will likely take some time off before heading into the studio in January or February 2001 to start
work on a new LP.

Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland will join Crystal Method in the studio soon to sing on a track for the dance duo's next album.

Crystal Method's Ken Jordan said the idea of collaborating with Weiland first came up when they shared a radio-festival bill in 1998. Weiland was then on a solo tour for 12 Bar Blues.

"After we got done performing, we found out that he wanted to come onstage with us," Jordan said. "He had a whole vocal part written for one of our tracks, but we didn't know until after the set. We would've loved it.

"A mutual friend found out that he was still interested in working together, so we contacted him through our publisher," Jordan said. "We sent him a few undeveloped tracks and he picked one he really likes."

Weiland, who has been working with the song, is expected to join Jordan and partner Scott Kirkland in the studio later this month.

Weiland is free to work on other projects since STP wrapped the Return
of the Rock tour with Godsmack and Disturbed on Friday in Phoenix.

He also will spend the coming weeks working with Inglewood, California, hip-hop group the Underdogs on their debut album, which will be released on his label, Lavish Records.

The singer met one of the Underdogs while serving jail time on drug charges last year.

STP plan to regroup in January to begin work on their fifth album, the follow-up to last year's platinum No. 4.

With the much-anticipated, long-delayed Doors tribute album, "Stoned Immaculate," finally set for release on November 14, the surviving members of the legendary band recently teamed up with some of its contemporary followers in Hollywood on Tuesday for a taping of an upcoming "VH1 Storytellers."

Stone Temple Pilots' Scott Weiland, Creed's Scott Stapp, and Days Of The New's Travis Meeks were among the artists who joined Doors guitarist Robbie Krieger, keyboardist-vocalist Ray Manzarek, and drummer John Densmore for the show, currently set to air in late November.

Train singer Patrick Monahan, former Jane's Addiction/Porno For Pyros frontman Perry Farrell, and The Cult's Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy also recorded segments for the episode, which marked the first time the remaining Doors had taken the stage together since being inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 1993.

For the Doors' "Storytellers," Scott Weiland performed "Break On Through,"
which the Stone Temple Pilots cut for the "Stoned Immaculate: The Music Of The Doors" album, as well as the fiery anti-Vietnam protest song, "Five To One."

Prior to the taping, Weiland talked with MTV News about the gig and his thoughts about sitting in with the band and singing for the late Lizard King, Jim Morrison.

"I get to sing with the surviving Doors members and perform some songs that they did," Weiland said. "I'm incredibly honored to have that opportunity, because they're one of the greatest rock and roll bands of all time, and Jim Morrison was a huge inspiration and influence on me, probably for better and for worse." [RealAudio]

Stone Temple Pilots have just completed filming a video for their next single, "No Way Out" (see "STP, Fans Shoot 'No Way Out' Video") and will head back out on the road for a brief
two-week run with Disturbed starting on September 30 in Noblesville, Indiana.

STP and Disturbed are then slated to hook up with Godsmack for the newest edition of MTV's Return Of The Rock Tour, an outing scheduled to launch on October 20 in Pittsburgh (see "STP, Godsmack, Disturbed Line Up Tour").

Sonicnet Music News

When the members of Stone Temple Pilots looked out into the crowd Sunday afternoon at Los Angeles' El Rey Theatre, all they saw was a sea of red dots.

The band had enlisted hundreds of radio contest winners to shoot its video for "No Way Out" (see "Stone Temple Pilots Tap Fans To Direct 'Way Out'"). The final clip will mix professional footage with material fans shot on their own cameras.

"I filmed everything upside down so I'll be able to tell what's mine," said 20-year-old fan Chris Summers. "This was so dope."

Singer Scott Weiland, sporting a new orange Mohawk, said the video was a way to thank fans for their loyalty during STP's troubled times.

"We weren't sure if we would ever have this the way it is again," Weiland said. "It's been a long time of pushing and pulling -- a tug of war and a tug of wills. And now that we have all four of us, our wills
are as one, and we're sharing that with the audience.... What we were able to do tonight was to capture that on film."

STP performed along with a recorded track of "No Way Out" about 10 times during the shoot. During breaks, guitarist Dean DeLeo, bassist Robert DeLeo, and drummer Eric Kretz jammed on '70s rock songs while Weiland hyped the crowd.

Before jumping into the audience to crowd-surf, the singer asked fans to be kind and support him. "I haven't fallen on my head since I've been clean," he said. Weiland completed a jail sentence in December stemming from heroin charges (see "Weiland Tastes Freedom While STP Drops 'Heaven And Hot Rods'").

Midway through the taping, the band instructed fans to hold down their cameras so the professional crew could capture them jumping around in rock and roll abandon. While the crowd embraced the offer to let loose, some fans were peeved that their job as director was being
shoved aside.

"They made it sound like we were gonna direct the video and it was gonna be all our footage, but they've got 5 million of their own cameras here," 21-year-old Alex Adams of Los Angeles said. "I decided to just forget it and just enjoy seeing STP in such a small place."

The winners also shot video before arriving at the El Rey, per the instructions of KROQ-FM, the contest's sponsor. Adams said his footage captured him and his friends "getting drunk last night and waking up this morning still drunk," plus shots of homeless people and road signs filmed on the way to the video shoot.

Weiland said he expected the material shot in advance would include "lots of subversive, absolutely bizarre various subplots."

"I think there's gonna be a lot of good tour-bus fodder," Dean DeLeo added.

The band treated the contest winners to a seven-song performance after wrapping the shoot.

"No Way Out," the fourth single from the band's
1999 album "No. 4," is about Weiland's struggles with drug addiction.

"It really reminds me of a time when I was still on a teeter-totter," he said. "I had a lot of aspirations to be a better person and was trying, but it just seemed that every time I took a couple steps forward, I would slide a little bit back.... Every other day is kind of like [the movie] 'Groundhog Day' -- it's the same story over and over. It's like, 'How many times can I continuously make progress and fall backward?' It's the frustration of that."

These days, Weiland said the song makes him feel grateful that he finally moved beyond that cycle.

Though "No. 4" suffered from STP's inability to promote it while Weiland served jail time, the album has since gone platinum with the help of the hit "Sour Girl."

"When we told [our friends in the industry] that we were gonna be releasing another single and going out to tour 'No. 4,' they were like, 'Why?'" Weiland said. "More than anything,
we feel vindicated that we have been able to reconnect with our fans."

After wrapping up their Return Of The Rock tour with Godsmack and Disturbed (see "STP, Godsmack, Disturbed Line Up Tour"), STP will begin work on their next album in January. The band plans to launch a world tour upon the LP's release in late spring or early summer, Weiland said.

Wanna direct a music video?

The Stone Temple Pilots are inviting over 400 fans to bring their personal video cameras to a one-off concert at the El Rey Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday night in order to help the group film its next video for "No Way Out."

The event is part of a KROQ radio station-sponsored contest that asks fans to shoot anything and everything from the time they're chosen until STP performs the song itself.

"Four hundred of you will be asked to create the darkest, sickest, most ill and insanely funny footage of you and your friends' concert preparation story," frontman Scott Weiland told MTV News. "As well, we get live action footage of us, STP, providing the sonic and visual sexual extravaganza. You become the artist, us the subject."

At the end of the exclusive full-length show, fans will be asked to deposit their tapes in a collection box as they exit. After the tapes are viewed, the best of the best will be edited together
for the clip. Following this process, the tapes will be sent back to the fans as a souvenir.

"We had been agonizing over which way to go with the video in terms of direction and were so noxious over the state of music videos today that we decided we should leave it up to our fans -- the true rock music fans -- who will have their part in turning back the tide of current Mouseketeer song and dance shame," Weiland said in a statement announcing the event.

The final cut of "No Way Out" will air on MTV with a director's credit that reads "The Listeners Of KROQ."

STP is currently out on the road with the Red Hot Chili Peppers supporting its platinum-selling "No. 4." The band is also slated to kick off MTV's Return Of The Rock tour with Godsmack and Disturbed on October 29 (see "STP, Godsmack, Disturbed Line Up Tour").

The band is expected to start recording its next album in January.

Sonicnet Music News

Korn's Jonathan Davis, Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst, Sugar Ray's Mark McGrath, and Stone Temple Pilots' Scott Weiland are expected to lend their voices to the upcoming solo debut of Limp Bizkit's DJ Lethal, due in the spring on Flip/Geffen.

Also planned for the album's star-studded guest roster are rappers Eminem, Method Man, Xzibit, and Dilated Peoples, as well as Staind singer Aaron Lewis and Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello, according to Eric Hunter, head of A&R at Geffen Records.

"Some of the tracks will gear themselves more toward a hip-hop flavor and some will be more rock-oriented," Hunter said on Thursday. "Obviously what ties it all together will be Lethal and his unique beats and music."

The vocals for the album haven't been recorded, but DJ Lethal has been working on the music sporadically during the past year, in between touring with Limp Bizkit and recording the band's new album, "Chocolate
Starfish And The Hot Dog Flavored Water," due this fall.

"With Limp Bizkit, [Lethal] is often the final element, working his magic over somewhat finished material," Hunter said. "On this album, he is able to create entirely his own material, with the guest artists adding their additional flavor."

DJ Lethal (born Leor DiMant), 30, first made his beats heard in the Los Angeles hip-hop group House Of Pain, which also featured Everlast. Lethal met Limp Bizkit when the group opened for one of House Of Pain's final shows in 1996, and he joined the band's lineup shortly thereafter.

Looks like the Stone Temple Pilots won't be giving birth to their planned "Big Bang Babies" greatest hits compilation after all.

As part of the band's move to a new management company, Q-Prime, STP has decided to hold off releasing the best-of album, which was to feature several new studio tracks and was tentatively set for release in October (see "STP's Weiland Talks 'Greatest Hits' LP, Limp Bizkit").

According to a publicist for the group, the Stone Temple Pilots severed ties with their former reps, Steve Stewart Management, earlier this week and signed on with Q-Prime, which also handles such artists as Metallica and Red Hot Chili Peppers, the latter of which STP is currently touring with.

STP has been drawing rave reviews for its recent live shows, praise which band frontman Scott Weiland says is due to the rejuvenated passion each bandmember is bringing to the stage since his release from a rehab center
in January (see "Weiland Tastes Freedom While STP Drops 'Heaven And Hot Rods'")

"The reason why we're being so well-received by the fans and by the critics is the attitude we have when we go out onstage every night," Weiland told MTV News. "Basically, we all have the same mind-set, that we are going to perform like it's the last night of our lives.

"If we don't sweat out 95 percent of all of our body water and walk off the stage without bruises, bumps, cuts, and blood, then we haven't put on the show that we know we can perform."

Dates where you can catch Stone Temple Pilots performing with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and opening act Fishbone:

8/10 - Charleston, WV @ Civic Coliseum
8/12 - Wantagh, NY @ Jones Beach Amphitheater
8/13 - Wantagh, NY @
