In early October, paparazzi photos popped up on the Web of "New Moon" star Taylor Lautner running in the ocean in a soaking wet T-shirt while cradling a football. We knew the setup was for a Rolling Stone shoot by renowned photographer Mark Seliger (who shot Megan Fox's October RS cover). What we didn't know was if Lautner's shoot was for the cover and when the photos would be published.

Now we have answers. Lautner appears on the cover of the December 10 issue in that same white T-shirt, frothy waves behind him and the football clutched behind his head. In the accompanying article, the "Twilight" werewolf opens up about what he called the crazy luck that made him one of 2009's breakout stars and his rumored relationship with Taylor Swift.

"We got along great," he said of working with Swift on the upcoming romantic comedy "Valentine's Day." "We instantly clicked. And she's — she's an amazing girl. Aside from being beautiful, she's extremely funny, charismatic and fun to be around, so we definitely get along. We're close."

Lautner strategically stopped short of confirming or denying whether the duo are dating. But the actor was more forthcoming when it came to discussing his growing stardom. "This could have happened to anybody who played Jacob," Lautner said of his character. "I was just lucky enough to be the one that has that opportunity. I'm so grateful. It's 'Twilight.' It's not me personally."

Rolling Stone also spoke with "New Moon" star Kristen Stewart, who kidded Lautner about his eating habits but suggested they offer a window into who the 17-year-old really is. "He's so picky," she said. "I was the first person who got him to eat sushi. He's very set in his ways. But that is very informative of his personality. He's very steady. He has a really solid sense of himself."

Thanks to talked-about performances from Adam Lambert, Lady Gaga and Rihanna and wins by the late Michael Jackson and country superstar Taylor Swift, the American Music Awards drew its strongest audience in seven years.

According to Nielsen estimates, the awards show drew 14.2 million viewers, which is 2 million more than last year's program and represents the best showing by the AMAs since 2002.

Though NBC still won the night with "Sunday Night Football," ABC pulled ahead during the 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. hours. The strong numbers for the show were boosted, no doubt, by the promise of more than 20 performances from some of music's biggest acts, including Jay-Z, Green Day, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Eminem with 50 Cent, Janet Jackson and Whitney Houston.

In the end, though, it was Lambert who made the biggest headlines, with his aggressively pansexual performance of the title track from his major-label debut, For Your Entertainment. In addition to drawing more than 1,500 complaints from viewers who took issue with the man-on-man kissing, girl dragging and S&M play, Lambert's awards-show coming-out party lost him at least one gig when ABC's "Good Morning America" announced Tuesday (November 24) that it had canceled his planned appearance due to the controversy kicked up by the AMAs.

Lambert took it all in stride, though, telling "American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest on his radio show on Tuesday that he respects the "GMA" decision. "They gotta do what they gotta do," Lambert said. "It's too bad. I think there were a lot of fans who were excited to come see me. They probably had a lot of pressure coming at them from certain people who weren't happy about it. I respect their decision. I don't necessarily agree with it, but they need to do what they need to do."

Lambert, who lamented what he perceives as a double standard when it comes to risqué performances by men and women in music, said he felt no need to apologize for his AMA debut. "I don't feel I owe anyone an apology for anything," he said. "I performed, it was late-night TV, I did something that female performers have been doing for years, no different. It's just the fact that I'm me and it's a little different for people. It's really not that big of a deal. I'm not a babysitter, I'm a performer."

Taylor Swift took home five awards, including Artist of the Year, at the 37th American Music Awards on Sunday night (November 22), but the evening was truly dominated by a series of memorable performances from some of the biggest names in the business. During the three-hour live show at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Eminem, Jay-Z and Alicia Keys, Shakira, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Lopez, Green Day and Adam Lambert all took the stage.

Beating out the likes of Michael Jackson, Gaga and Eminem for Artist of the Year, Swift accepted her award via video link-up from London, where she was in the middle of a late-night rehearsal. "Music has never been openly about competition and to even be mentioned in a category with Michael Jackson, who will be missed and loved forever, is an unimaginable honor," she said.

Michael Jackson won in the Favorite Male Artist Soul/R&B and Favorite Male Artist Pop/Rock categories among his four wins for the night. Wearing a single sparkling glove, his brother Jermaine accepted each award, stressing that his late brother's message was just as important as his music. "The message that Michael had will live on forever," he said. "He saw good in everyone and he wanted everyone to do good. He always started with love."

One of the more eye-popping performances of the night belonged to Lady Gaga. Starting off with her newest single, "Bad Romance," the singer matched a flesh-colored bodysuit with flashing white accessories that mimicked a rib cage and some sort of arty antlers, which she soon ditched to let her blond locks free. She then picked up her mic stand and smashed open a glass enclosure housing a piano. She climbed up, sat down and played "Speechless" while flames enveloped the wooden instrument and she smashed empty liquor bottles against the keys.

Rihanna began "Wait Your Turn," the second single off her album Rated R, strapped to a rotating metal frame that turned her upside down. Unstrapped by some helpful dancers, the white-body-suited singer sauntered across the stage, showing off some spiky shoulder pads in the process.

Jay-Z and Alicia Keys were on hand on the West Coast to present current Billboard Hot 100 topper "Empire State of Mind." Keys began with a little ode to the iconic song, "New York, New York," as Jay stood by her piano in a white tux. By the end, both stars were standing together as the crowd waved their hands in the air. Keys returned to the stage later for a solo performance of "Try Sleeping with a Broken Heart." Even later, Jay got another turn as well when he won Favorite Male Artist, Rap/Hip-Hop.

Well into the show's third hour, Eminem and 50 Cent arrived for bleep-heavy versions of "Crack a Bottle" and "Forever." The Black Eyed Peas put on a laser light-assisted medley of songs including "Meet Me Halfway" and "Boom Boom Pow." Will.I.Am sported a futuristic outfit and strapped a huge white keytar to his body. Half an hour before, the band beat out Kings of Leon and Nickelback for Favorite Pop/Rock Band, Duo or Group, a category in which they also triumphed in 2005.

Swift's other AMA wins included Favorite Female Country Artist (over Reba McEntire and Underwood) and Favorite Female Artist Pop/Rock (beating out Lady Gaga and Beyoncé). Introducing the latter award, Aerosmith's Perry complimented the nominees chart-topping hits, saying, "That's as high as you can get."

"Wanna bet?" deadpanned fellow presenter Snoop Dogg.

Dolled up in a short gold outfit, Underwood sang "Cowboy Casanova" as dancers vamped around her and the country star stood on an illuminated platform. Shakira came out with a fierce stomping routine to accompany "Give It Up To Me," a rendition that had her dancers sashaying through the aisles and graphics of the trendiest military march imaginable on screens behind the singer. Just minutes before, Daughtry played "Life After You," a slow-burning single off the band's Billboard chart-topping second album, Leave This Town. Green Day contributed one of the night's hardest rocking performances with "21 Guns," tempered by liberal use of acoustic guitar and piano solos.

Jennifer Lopez enlisted a boxing ring announcer for her new song "Louboutins," complete with actual boxing ring, championship belt and dancers dressed as fighters. Earlier, accompanied by a small contingent of string instruments, an elegant Kelly Clarkson sang a stripped-down version of "Already Gone" that built in intensity as her band kicked in and the "American Idol" winner stood in a black velvet and crystal-adorned gown. A couple commercial breaks later, Mary J. Blige performed "I Am."

Whitney Houston was honored with the International Artist of the Year award, joining only six other winners — such as Michael Jackson — in the history of the AMAs. The diva then took the stage in a floor-length white dress to sing a powerful version of "I Didn't Know My Own Strength."

Janet Jackson kicked off the evening with a nearly eight-minute medley, bounding across the stage with choreographed moves alongside backup dancers to snippets of "Control," "Miss You Much," "If," "Together Again" and her new single, "Make Me."

"American Idol" star Adam Lambert closed the show with provocative — to put it mildly — version of his single, "For Your Entertainment," in which he danced within an enormous picture frame and showed off the vocal dexterity that made him a star on the TV talent show earlier in the year.

Presenters included Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez, Kate Hudson (who seemed to be worried her silver dress would lead to a wardrobe malfunction), Nicole Kidman, Kristen Bell, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Kris Allen, Ne-Yo, Perez Hilton, Drake, Kid Cudi, Samuel L. Jackson, Leona Lewis, Seth Greene and Ryan Seacrest.

'Tis the season for inappropriately early Christmas decorations, conspicuous consumption and, most important, holiday radio shows. The end-of-year tradition of smashing a dozen completely unrelated acts onto a stage together as a thank you to fans (and radio programmers) is about to kick off, and this season's offerings offer multiple coast-to-coast appearances by everyone from Muse to Taylor Swift, 30 Seconds to Mars, Justin Bieber and Kris Allen.

One of the season's most pop-tastic rosters is for Z100 (WHTZ) in New York's annual Jingle Ball at Madison Square Garden on December 11. The talent lineup includes Taylor Swift, John Mayer, Justin Bieber, the Fray, Jordin Sparks, Kris Allen, Boys Like Girls, Pitbull, Owl City, Jay Sean and Ke$ha. On the opposite coast, Los Angeles' KIIS (102.7 FM) Jingle Ball will host Swift, Keri Hilson, Fabolous, the Ting Tings, 3OH!3, LMFAO, Jay Sean and Jason Derulo at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live on December 5.

Tampa's WFLZ 93.3 FM will host many of those same acts December 13 at the St. Pete Times Forum, for a show featuring the Fray, Sparks, Pitbull, 3OH!3, Boys Like Girls, Sean Kingston and the Ting Tings. Yet another Jingle Ball, this one for Kiss 108 at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell, Massachusetts, on December 10, will host Bieber, Sparks, the Fray, Boys Like Girls, Kingston and Jay Sean. Assuming that's not enough Jingle Balling for you, there's always Minneapolis' sold-out KDWB 101.3 Ball, which helps kick things off December 6 at the Xcel Energy Center with Sparks, Pitbull, Boys Like Girls, Bieber, 3OH!3, Sean, Owl City and Colbie Caillat.

The granddaddy of the alternative holiday radio shows, KROQ (106.7 FM) Los Angeles' Almost Acoustic Christmas, hits the Gibson Amphitheatre on December 12-13 with AFI, Muse, 311, Rise Against, Alice in Chains, 30 Seconds to Mars, Dead by Sunrise, Phoenix, the Bravery, Metric, Vampire Weekend and White Rabbits.

In Philadelphia, Q102 (WIOQ FM) will shake its Jingle Ball with Bieber, Sparks, Sean, Owl City, Pitbull, Cobra Starship and the Fray on December 9 at the Susquehanna Bank Center. Dallas' KRBE (104.1 FM) will light up its Not So Silent Night show at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Houston with the All-American Rejects, Bieber, Cobra Starship and Sean.

If your taste runs to the alternative, the December 3 Buzz Xmas Show at the Uptown Theatre in Kansas City, Missouri, will offer sets from Spoon, the Bravery, Metric and buzz band Hockey. An even more star-studded lineup will hit the Remac Arena in San Diego on December 12 for 94.9's Holiday Hootenanny, with Spoon, Vampire Weekend, Phoenix, Manchester Orchestra and White Rabbits. A roster featuring the best of those two bills will play the WaMu Arena in Seattle on December 15 at venerable alternative station 107.7 The End's (KNDD) Deck the Hall Ball, featuring Muse, 30 Seconds to Mars, Phoenix, Metric and Vampire Weekend.

The rundown is slightly different at 106.1 FM's Jingle Bell Bash also at Seattle's WaMu Arena on December 19, with guarantees of complicated hair and lots of questionable tats from the likes of All-American Rejects, Cobra Starship, We the Kings, All Time Low, Hey Monday, Cash Cash, Push Play, the Maine, This Providence, Amber Pacific and hosting duties handled by none other than Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz.

Harder-rocking tastes will be slaked by the lineup of the Night the Edge Stole Xmas at the Nokia Theatre in Dallas on December 3-4, which will feature headliners Breaking Benjamin, Papa Roach, AFI and 30 Seconds to Mars, as well as Flyleaf, Dead by Sunrise, the Bravery and Cage the Elephant. A similar lineup will play KXTE's Holiday Havoc at the Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas on December 11-12, with contributions from Alice in Chains, Muse, Dead by Sunrise, Cage the Elephant and Paper Tongues. A lot of the same names will be on hand for KTCL (93.3) in Denver's Not So Silent Night, with sets from AFI, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Say Anything and I Fight Dragons on December 6 at the Magness Arena. Detroit's 88.7 FM (CIMX) will also get hair flying with the Night 89X Stole Christmas 12, featuring 30 Seconds to Mars, Flyleaf, Thousand Foot Krutch, Veer Union and After Midnight Project.

New York's leading hip-hop station, Hot 97, presents Funkmaster Flex's Thanksgiving Bash on November 26 at the LQ Nightclub with Swizz Beatz, Ron Browz, Omarion, Amerie and Juelz Santana. Hartford, Connecticut, station Hot 93.7 (WZMX) will take over the XL Center on December 3 with a Jingle Jam show by Pitbull, Mario, Hilson, Trey Songz, Nicki Minaj and Fabolous.

Chicago's B96 Jingle Bash will crash down December 12 at Allstate Arena with spots from Hilson, Bieber, Pitbull, David Guetta, Sean, Kingston, Jeremih, Livvi Frank and the Jump Smokers. Fab will also be on hand for the December 16 Power 106 Cali Christmas show at the Gibson Amphitheatre near Los Angeles, headlined by 50 Cent and T-Pain, with Jeremih, Pitbull and Sean in the mix as well.

On Wednesday night, Taylor Swift stormed the Country Music Association Awards and took home all four prizes for which she was nominated, including the much-coveted Entertainer of the Year trophy. While it seemed like a validation of Swift's success from the country music establishment, not everybody was pleased with the 19-year-old's victory. Country music legend Wynonna Judd spoke out against Swift's win, though she reversed her position on Thursday.

During an interview on the show's red carpet Wednesday night, Judd was asked what advice she would give to Swift. "You want my honest comment? It's too much too soon," she said, according to USAToday.com. "Time is God's way of keeping everything from happening at once. It's just too much of a good thing too soon. Mom and I rode in a car for the first year of our career to visit radio stations. There was a making of the star, there was a rising-up, and the fans went with us. Now it's over coffee breaks, the success, almost."

But on Thursday, Judd clarified her stance on the message board of her official Web site. "I understand that my comment about Taylor Swift's Entertainer of the Year nomination came across as a negative statement," she wrote. "My intent was not to take anything away from her talent and contributions to the country music industry, all of which are truly unprecedented for an artist of any age. Taylor is a beautiful, hard-working young woman that deserves the success she has had and I support her as an artist and as a woman in the business."

Whether Swift is too young to win Entertainer of the Year — she's the youngest ever to win the award, eclipsing Judd herself, who took the prize at age 22 — is something of a moot point, as her dominance at the awards show helped it reach its best ratings in four years, according to Reuters. An estimated 16.8 million people watched the three-hour show, which was broadcast live on ABC.

This year's CMA Awards broke the mold of usual suspects, with Taylor Swift taking Entertainer of the Year and former Hootie frontman Darius Rucker nabbing New Artist of the Year.

Last year's Country Music Association Awards were pretty rote: Kenny Chesney won Entertainer of the Year for the fourth straight time, and Carrie Underwood took home Female Vocalist of the Year for the third year in a row. But the rise of Taylor Swift's album Fearless has turned the country music world on its ear, and last night's CMA Awards show proved that although the crossover superstar has made an impact all over the music world, she still holds the respect of her core peers.

Swift won in all four categories in which she was nominated: Entertainer of the Year, Album of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year and Video of the Year (for "Love Story").

It was a long night of firsts, as former Hootie & the Blowfish frontman Darius Rucker took home the statuette for New Artist of the Year, while alt-country outlaw Jamey Johnson won Song of the Year for "In Color." Here's a list of the night's big winners:

At the 2009 CMA Awards on Wednesday night, 19-year-old Taylor Swift became the youngest person ever to win Entertainer of the Year at the show. It was the latest accolade of many the singer has received this year, and she was still amazed that it was all happening.

"Tonight I'm just gonna dance around with my band and my crew and my label," she told People after also winning Album of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year and Video of the Year. "I'm going to go hang out with my crew and my band and the people at my record label, and we're going to hug and dance and jump up and down."

Swift, who said the night stood out more than her stint hosting "Saturday Night Live" last week, noted that the reality of her recent success is still sinking in. "I never imagined that the unattainable thing that I dreamed about could happen to me at 19," she said. "It's a lot to absorb. So now the next challenge is to find the next challenge."

The recent VMA winner noted that it wasn't that long ago that she was just looking for someone to listen to her music, let alone shower her with awards. "It feels like just yesterday I was knocking on doors in Nashville saying, 'Hey, would you listen to my demo?' " she said. "I feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to open for all those people who were nominated with me."

While a majority of the country music community felt she deserved to win Entertainer of the Year, country-music vet Wynonna Judd isn't convinced.

"You want my honest comment? It's too much too soon," she told USA Today. "Time is God's way of keeping everything from happening at once. It's just too much of a good thing too soon. My thing is, being a home-school mom, I want kids to earn it, and I think some time ... 'cause mom and I rode in a car for the first year of our career to visit radio stations. There was a making of the star, there was a rising up, and the fans went with us. Now it's over coffee breaks, the success, almost. You have to play catch up. ... It's like the girl who wins an Oscar and she's under 20. What do you do from here?"

Taylor Swift is starting to make this look too easy. The 19-year-old country superstar notched another record on Wednesday night when she became the youngest person ever to win the top prize at the 43rd annual Country Music Association Awards: Entertainer of the Year.

With tears in her eyes — and Kanye West nowhere in the house to cut her off this time — Swift asked her band to join her onstage to savor the feeling.

"I will never forget this moment because in this moment everything I have ever wanted has just happened to me," she said in accepting the major honor over four veteran male acts, all of whom she has opened concerts for in the past year. "You guys, this album is my diary, and so to all the people who voted for me for this ... thank you for saying you love my diary because that's the nicest compliment," said Swift, wearing a flowing gown with a glittering gold bodice.

Her win snapped a three-year run by Kenny Chesney, who has won four of the last five years in the category. It also made her the first solo female artist in more than a decade to snag the honor since Shania Twain did it in 1999.

The win capped a night when Swift swept up four awards, including Album of the Year for the still-unstoppable Fearless, as well as Female Vocalist of the Year and Video of the Year for "Love Story." Swift got one more swing in during the acceptance speech for Female Vocalist, when she quipped, "I want to thank every single person in this room tonight for not running onstage during this speech."

In the latter category, she beat out host Carrie Underwood, who was blanked in all three of the categories in which she was nominated. She had her fun, though, as she and co-host Brad Paisley took several shots at Kanye during the three-hour telecast. The pair jabbed 'Ye during a medley of their songs to open the show, when they sang, "Mama don't let your babies grow up to be Kanye." They did it again later during some banter about Paisley's "Welcome to the Future" video, when 88-year-old Grand Ole Opry member Little Jimmy Dickens crashed the stage and interrupted the pair.

"Excuse me, sir," he said, cutting Paisley off. "I'll let you finish later. I know you had a nice video and all, but Taylor Swift made the best video of all time. Of all time! You go, girl!" The cameras cut to Swift, who, along with the crowd, was laughing at the gag. "What kind of security do we have that a 4-foot 9-inch, 85-year-old man gets by it," joked Paisley, who won two awards, including his third straight Male Vocalist of the Year.

It was a night of big wins for country's new generation, as Grammy winners Lady Antebellum snagged Single of the Year for "I Run to You," as well as Vocal Group of the Year, ending a six-year run by Rascal Flatts in that race.

Former Hootie and the Blowfish lead singer Darius Rucker — whose career with that easy-rocking band began more than 20 years ago — won the Best New Artist award for his 2008 country debut Learn to Live, which has spawned a trio of hit singles and sold more than 1 million copies. The Charleston, South Carolina, native had a simple message to the country community that has embraced him: "To the fans, thank ya'll for accepting me. And I think most importantly, to country radio, you took a chance on a pop singer from Charleston, South Carolina. Thank you so much for that!" He later performed his song "Alright" and high-fived audience members as he ran around the floor of the Sommet Center.

There were plenty of major performance numbers, including Swift kicking the night off with a rousing "Forever & Always," during which she tossed a chair off the podium and slid down a pole. As she did on last weekend's "Saturday Night Live," where she opened with a number in which she took jabs at her famous ex, Joe Jonas, Swift threw another roundhouse in a jokey interview segment with Nancy O'Dell of "Access Hollywood" before the song.

"If guys don't want me to write bad songs about them, then they shouldn't do bad things," said Swift, who also performed her song "Fifteen" during the event.

Among the other new turks winning big was bearded outlaw Jamey Johnson, who won for Song of the Year for "In Color." "I never thought you guys would even let me come to things like this," he joked during his acceptance speech. Beloved group Sugarland won Vocal Duo of the Year for the third time in a row.

Amping up the rock action, Kid Rock joined Johnson for "Between Jennings and Jones" and Dave Matthews teamed with Chesney on "I'm Alive."

Who's your favorite celebrity? Chances are, they're nominated for a 2010 People's Choice Award. The list of nominees for the annual populist event reads like a who's who of the music, film and TV charts, topped by multi-nominees Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Carrie Underwood, Rihanna, Taylor Swift and "American Idol" top two Adam Lambert and Kris Allen, who will face off in the Breakout Star category.

The show, which will air on January 6 on CBS and will be hosted by Queen Latifah, latched onto the hottest entertainment trend, vampires, with "Twilight" and "True Blood" sucking up multiple nominations thanks to more than 18 million online votes. "Twilight" snagged nods for Favorite Movie and On-Screen Team for Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. Stewart and Pattinson are also nominated in the Favorite Move Actress and Actor categories, and Lautner earned a Breakout Movie Actor bid. HBO's Southern gothic series, "True Blood," snagged a nod for Favorite TV Obsession, and lead Anna Paquin was nominated for TV Drama Actress.

Taylor Swift hosts "SNL" on Saturday

Taylor Swift didn't waste any time addressing her personal life — or that Kanye West VMA incident, for that matter — during her hosting stint on this week's "Saturday Night Live," tackling both in her opening monologue. With, appropriately enough, a song.

Strumming her guitar to a tune called "The Monologue Song (La La La)," Swift sang lines like, "You might think I'd bring up Joe, that guy who broke up with me on the phone/ Hey, Joe, I'm doing real well, tonight I'm hosting 'SNL' " (a reference, of course, to her former boyfriend, Joe Jonas). She also made light of the prevailing rumor that she's dating "New Moon" star Taylor Lautner with the verse, "If you're wondering if I might/ Be dating the werewolf from 'Twilight'/ I'm not gonna comment on that/ In my monologue," which she interrupted with a wink, then mouthed, "Hi, Taylor," to the camera.

As the crowd whistled their approval, Swift shifted the song into a jokey, mopey dirge, made a sad face, and sang, "You might be expecting me to say/ Something bad about Kanye/ And how he ran up on the stage/ But there's nothing more to say/ 'Cause everything's OK/ I've got security lining the stage."

Swift, who also gamely made fun of the VMA interruption in a promo for the episode, ended her monologue with another dig at West. "We've got a great show, " she laughed. "Kanye West is not here"

In later sketches, Swift showed off her acting chops, impersonating Kate Gosselin in a send-up of "The View," then donning a dark wig to spoof "Twilight" in the Digital Short "Firelight," which replaced vampires with Frankenstein monsters.

She also threw on a goatee and cornrows to play a wild-eyed convict in a "Scared Straight" skit, some pajamas in a turn as an over-affectionate roommate and, in the night's final sketch, a long blond wig for a jittery, hip-shaking impersonation of Shakira.

Pulling double duty as both host and musical performer, Swift also took the stage for a pair songs: a spirited version of "You Belong With Me" and a stripped-down "Untouchable."
