Meet Nick Thomas--the 19 year-old singer, songwriter and mastermind of the Spill Canvas. Born and raised in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Thomas has been turning his rural experiences into pop-rock tunes for as long as he can remember. Influenced by artists like Saves the Day, Further Seems Forever, Copeland, Ben Lee, and Dashboard Confessional, Thomas released his first CD at age 15 and eventually began performing at local venues under the Spill Canvas moniker. His demo caught the attention of One Eleven Records founder Brad Fischetti, who signed the Spill Canvas shortly after hearing the impressive demo tape. In 2004, One Eleven Records released the largely acoustic Sunsets and Car Crashes, which promptly became an underground success. Constant touring allowed Thomas to hone his highly emotional live performance and evolve the Spill Canvas into a full band. Now joined by guitarist Dan Ludeman, bassist Scott McGuire and drummer Joe Beck, Thomas headed back into the studio with producer Ed Rose (Motion City Soundtrack, The Get Up Kids) for a proper sophomore LP. With its lush, orchestral arrangements, driving melodies and heartfelt lyrics, One Fell Swoop was released in August 2005.
