Sebadoh have set an January 12 release date for their eighth studio album, the highly anticipated follow-up to 1996's critically acclaimed "Harmacy."

Entitled, simply enough, "The Sebadoh," the band recorded the bulk of the new album last May at Mad Hatter studios in Los Angeles with producer Eric Masunaga, who also worked on several cuts on "Harmacy."

Like their previous two efforts, "The Sebadoh" features a nearly even split in songwriting duties between the multi-instrumentalist duo of Lou Barlow and Jason Loewenstein, although drummer Russ Pollard does get into the act with a track of his own, "Break Free."

Barlow scored a hit in 1995 with "Natural One," a song from the "Kids" soundtrack that he recorded with his Sebadoh side-project, Folk Implosion.

The band hasn't decided on a first single or video for "The Sebadoh," but do plan on launching a tour in support of the new record in January.

The track listing for "The Sebadoh":

"It's

Jan. 14 [10:00 EST] -- The relentlessly sullen Lou Barlow and his Sebadoh bandmates will take to the Internet for a live broadcast of their January 18 show at New York's Irving Plaza.

Barlow, Jason Lowenstein, and Bob Fay will bring their low-fi wanderings to the Irving Plaza stage, as well as to sonicnet.com and irvingplaza.com, starting at 9 p.m. EST.

Sebadoh cranked out six albums earning moderate success and earning Lou Barlow the tag of "sensitive indie songwriter." The group found a larger audience with their 1996 Sub Pop release, "Harmacy." While the album was certainly the most polished Sebadoh release to date, it still maintained the honesty and intensity that the band had made their trademark.
