Juelz Santana And Lil Wayne In A 'Good Space' For Team-Up Album

Santana tells MTV News he plans to drop his next solo LP Born to Lose, Built to Win later this year.

Juelz Santana and Lil Wayne's I Can't Feel My Face LP has been six years in the making and a good number of the tracks have already been leaked onto the Internet, but when fans will get an official version is anyone's guess.

"When Wayne reached out to me at the time I just wasn't in the position to really do things the right way," Santana told MTV News at Meek Mill's 25th birthday bash in Philadelphia.

During an interview with MTV's "Hip Hop POV" host Amanda Seales, Wayne revealed that when he was released from prison in 2010, he hoped he and his buddy Elz could begin new recording sessions for the storied album, but after a January 2011 raid on Santana's New Jersey studio left him unable to work, Weezy repurposed the beats that intended for Face for his upcomingI Am Not a Human Being II. "At the time my studio had just got shut down, I lost a lot of music so I just had to recuperate," Elz explained to MTV News. "But I reached out to Weezy, we in a good space."

I Can't Feel My Face isn't the only Juelz project that fans have been clamoring for. It's been seven years since his last solo album, What the Game's Been Missing! and considering it earned him an RIAA-certified gold plaque, the wait for Juelz's next LP Born to Lose, Built to Win is quite the head scratcher. But the rapper assured that he'll have an album out by the end of the year.

"I'll probably drop two mixtapes before the album and we gonna get everything right, we gonna get everything back in the proper perspective where it need to be," he told MTV News. "When I put out my music it will be well worth the wait, that's all I can say."

And in case you were wondering about the status of Diplomatic Immunity 3, the long-awaited reunion album with Cam'ron, Jim Jones, Juelz and Freekey Zekey, that idea is still on the table. "Hopefully we gonna get that Diplomat album poppin'," Santana plugged. "We just want to do that the right way."

'I Can't Feel My Face has now turned into I Am Not a Human Being,' Wayne confirms to 'Hip Hop POV.'

It seems like we've been talking about a Lil Wayne/ Juelz Santana collabo album forever. But when the much-ballyhooed I Can't Feel My Face will actually drop is anyone's guess. While Weezy's 2010 jail stint definitely postponed the project, now Tunechi says when he got home, he reached out to his Dipset buddy to finally put their plans in motion.

"I actually got at Elz when I got out and told him, 'Man, I think it's time we really capitalize on that,' " Wayne recalled to Amanda Seales of MTV's "Hip Hop POV" in an outtake from last week's episode.

It's more than six years in the making, but for a time, I Can't Feel My Face was one of rap's most-anticipated projects. Now that Weezy has put his legal troubles behind him, it's Santana who's facing drama after his New Jersey recording studio was raided in January 2011.

"He can't work how he wants to work because they shut down his studio," Wayne explained. "I sent him some music and he didn't send them back in the time-fashion that I work."

Never one to remain idle, Tunechi took the songs that he had set aside for the joint album and repurposed them for his upcoming I Am Not a Human Being II solo LP. "I started putting extra verses on those songs and I've moved on," he confirmed. "Now what probably would've been I Can't Feel My Face, has now turned into I Am Not a Human Being."

During a June 2011 interview on "RapFix Live," Juelz gave his own reasoning for the delay. "It wasn't no one reason it didn't happen. Me and Wayne always was on the same page, musically, as far as friendship-wise," he said. "I'm just happy we didn't let that get in the way of us being cool, being able to do things in the future; we ain't let it get to us."

'I got a Phantom and a Bentley outside of my studio; I'm not selling dime bags,' Dipset MC said about raid of his studio, on 'RapFix Live.'

When the Diplomats stopped by MTV News' "RapFix Live" back in January, the quartet arrived ... as a threesome. So when Sway asked about the absent Juelz Santana, Dipset leader Cam'ron had an explanation.

"He was on his way, but he had some type of allergic reaction on his face," he said, adding that Juelz had eaten something that didn't agree with him.

Cam was quick with a cover-up but as fans soon learned, it wasn't a rash, but a police raid on his Bergen County, New Jersey, studio that kept Santana from the Dipset crew's first appearance on our live stream. And when the Harlem rapper finally sat on the "RapFix" couch on Wednesday, he set the record straight about what happened that day.

"For those who don't know, my studio got raided, to make a long story short. I wasn't there, I wasn't present. One of my artists was there — shout-out to my boy Hynief — he was in the building," Santana said, referring to the friend/MC who was arrested during the raid. "They raided the studio and in the process of raiding the studio they allegedly said they found some firearms. Once again, I wasn't there, I wasn't present, it's a studio."

The raid turned up two handguns, drug paraphernalia and 17 Ziploc bags containing "a greenish brown vegetation consistent with the appearance of marijuana," according to police reports. Santana was later arrested on February 2 and charged with four counts of narcotic and weapon offenses in connection with the raid, which came as a result of a 10-month-long investigation of the studio by the Bergenfield Police Department.

"My name is the biggest so of course they are going to target me as the one to put a lot of the blame on," the Harlem MC said. "I had no clue on what's going on, I rent the studio out to people. That's like if I rent the studio out right now to somebody and they choose to bring whoever they want to bring in to the studio. They rented the studio out; I have no knowledge of what's going on until I come back and your [rental] time is finished."

Juelz also elaborated on his own charges with Sway. "They charged me with the firearms," he said. "They didn't charge me with trying to sell, but they put out a statement making it seem like I was selling weed out of my studio, which is preposterous. Dime bags? I got a phantom and a Bentley outside of my studio; I'm not selling dime bags. That sh-- is just crazy."

Despite his troubles, Santana seemed to be in good spirits and assured fans his lawyer was still sorting out the legalities.

'I ain't doing nothing, ain't got nothing to hide,' Diplomats MC tells MTV News.

The last two days have been tough for Juelz Santana, but his legal battle has just begun.

The Diplomats MC was hauled into jail Wednesday for weapons and drug charges following a raid on his New Jersey studio, Santana's World. In an interview with MTV News on Thursday (January 3), less than two hours after he was released, the Harlem spitter spoke about spending the past 32 hours in an orange jumpsuit in Bergen County Jail.

Although Juelz learned of the bust immediately after officials visited his mother's home (he later called prosecutors to gain greater insight into the case), the uptown MC didn't turn himself in to authorities until Wednesday morning, when he already had a court date for an unrelated traffic violation, knowing he would be taken into custody because of his outstanding warrant. In the pen, the self-described "picky eater" recalled forgoing grub that looked like "rice and Alpo" to subsist on peppermint candy, maintained he didn't sleep the entire bid — during which the "minutes felt like hours" — and lamented the "claustrophobic" vibe of prison.

The newly freed lyricist, who was charged with four counts of narcotics and weapons offenses, still has major beef with a police department he said has always targeted him because of his status as a top-selling, money-getting MC.

"Jersey, their laws is a little bit different. I'm definitely a target out here just because of who I am. They pull me over... [there's] only one way to get to my studio, so every day I gotta take that route when I'm going to my studio in Jersey, so I get pulled over at least three times a week, 'cause they know all my cars. They looking to get me, regardless," he said. "I don't know why. I haven't done anything. I do music. I'm not selling drugs like they said I was doing. I'm not doing none of those things. So at the end of the day, I just don't understand their need to imply all the things that they trying to imply."

Santana insisted the Jersey cops have been looking to set him to up to drain him of his cash.

"It's about money. They don't care about the criminals, they want that money. They said, 'We gon' get him, he can get high bail.' Whether the charges stick or not, they gon' get their money," said Juelz, who was released on Thursday after posting $125,000 bail.

A January 20 raid on his studio turned up two loaded handguns, drug paraphernalia and 17 Ziploc bags of "a greenish brown vegetation, consistent with the appearance of Marijuana." The Dipset star has been charged with possession of a firearm and a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a handgun without having a permit, possession with intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance and possession with intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance within 1,000 feet of a school zone after police executed a 10-month-long investigation that led to the raid. (Juelz protégé and Skull Gang MC Hynief was arrested at the time of the bust). Despite the charges, Santana is adamant he wasn't involved in any illegal activity.

"If they saying they had an investigation ... 125 percent they ain't got me doing or saying anything," he said. "They can tap my phones right now. At the end of the day, I don't care, because that's not my business. I've been done with that, that life. Especially selling weed. It ain't like they said, 'Oh we raided his studio, we found 100 pounds of marijuana.' ... They found less than a half a ounce of weed in a studio. In a studio? That's what people do — go to the studio, smoke weed. So why would you assume that's being sold instead of being smoked? Then at the end of the day, I wasn't even there, so how would you pin some charges on me?"

The "Back to the Crib" mic-ripper insisted that the responsibility should lie with people who have used the studio and that, as the owner, he shouldn't have to shoulder all the blame.

"They gotta go by sessions. At the end of the day, I own the studio, I rent the studio out. That's like ... if I go to a studio right now downtown, and I bring my weed and my guns down there — not to say that that's what I'm doing — and I go down there and they run in the studio and they gonna let me go and lock the people from the studio? They had no idea what I was doing. That's the same situation I'm in," he said.

While Juelz flatly denied that he has been pushing drugs, he did readily admit to another one of the authorities' allegations: that he has a relationship with the Bloods street gang.

"I been gang-affiliated since day one. Everybody knows that, everybody know we got a heavy affiliation with the Bloods since day one. They just try to amp things up. The media, they amp things up [and] make it sound more than what it is. Gang affiliation, I'm around Bloods. People around me happen to be around more Bloods than anything else, so they assume that's what I'm doing. But I know Crips too. I know Latin Kings," he said, adding that police "don't really all the way do their job, they just vibe off of information."

Despite the drama, Juelz made it clear he has no intentions of ditching his recording outpost, regardless of what he feels is flak from shady cops.

"I'm [going to] record in that studio. At the end of the day, why should I move? I didn't do nothing!" he maintained. "I ain't gonna have them run me out of somewhere 'cause they got it out for me. I'm just gonna have to, at the end of the day, make sure things that ain't supposed to be happening while I'm not around just ain't happening. Besides that, I'm going right back to work. Like, leave me the f--- alone. Y'all wanna run in here, run in here. I ain't doing nothing. Ain't got nothing to hide."

Juelz Santana's Brother Opens Up About Arrest

'We are just looking forward to having this whole situation cleared up,' Santana's publicist says in a statement.

Juelz Santana was hauled into custody on Wednesday (February 2) on drug and weapons charges, and his brother and manager is now speaking out about the arrest.

Hours after Juelz, born LaRon James, was taken to a New Jersey prison on charges connected to a January raid on his studio, his older brother and manager, Jermaine "Twin" James, said he's optimistic that Juelz will come home by the end of the day.

"We are hopeful that my Brother will be released tonight," he said in a statement. "He is just being processed through the system right now. I posted his bail earlier today. All computers are currently down at the Prosecutor's Office." (When MTV News contacted the Bergen County Jail around 7 p.m., an officer confirmed that the MC had just arrived at the facility.) At press time, Juelz was being held on $125,000 bail.

Juelz Santana has been arrested weeks after a raid on his New Jersey studio turned up marijuana and weapons.

Bergen County Prosecutor's Office public information officer Maureen Parenta said in a statement that Juelz, born Laron James, was picked up on four counts of narcotic and weapon offenses on Wednesday (February 2) following a 10-month-long investigation.

According to authorities, Juelz is a suspected member of the Bloods street gang, and officials raided his New Jersey studio, Santana's World, on January 20. The raid turned up two fully loaded handguns, drug paraphernalia and 17 Ziploc bags containing "a greenish brown vegetation, consistent with the appearance of Marijuana."

Santana has been charged with possession of a firearm and a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a handgun without having a permit, possession with intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance, and possession with intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance within 1,000 feet of a school zone. The MC's bail has been set at $125,000, and Santana was taken into custody. An officer confirmed to MTV News that the Dipset spitter had just arrived at Bergen County Jail at press time.

Diplomats rapper Juelz Santana missed a few appointments last week, among them an appearance on MTV News' "RapFix Live" and a concert in Chicago.

Cam'ron said Santana had a "skin issue" that kept him from the Dipset-themed "RapFix Live," however, it was later revealed Santana was dealing with a legal ordeal: An affiliate of his was arrested at the rapper's New Jersey studio.

In an interview with Chicago's Power 92, the MC apologized for his absence and briefly spoke about the incident.

"It's been some legal issue, I know it's been all over the Internet," Santana told the Hot Boyz radio hosts. "Police ran up in my studio. I had to deal with that and a couple things.

"They always picking on me — that's the best way I can put it," he continued. "But by the graces of God, everything should be OK. I wasn't caught with anything in my possession."

Skull Gang MC Hynief (born Toby M. Raynor) was arrested, with police saying he was in possession of firearms and marijuana.

"Two fully loaded 9mm caliber handguns were found in the recording studio along with several boxes of ammunition. Additionally, seventeen (17) small clear zip-lock bags each containing a greenish brown vegetation, consistent with the appearance of Marijuana, and drug paraphernalia were seized," a spokesperson for the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office said in a statement.

Santana will join Cam'ron, Jim Jones and Freekey Zekey for a Diplomats reunion LP due later this year.

The Diplomats' reunion has been filled with plenty of highlights so far, from the release of their rousing banger "Salute Me" to the Harlem collective appearing on TV together for the first time in years during the 2010 BET Hip-Hop Awards. Adding to the highlight reel, they recently hit the studio with Dr. Dre to work on their forthcoming project.

According to Jim Jones, the West Coast legend visited them at the urging of music executive Jimmy Iovine.

"Shout-outs to Dre, that was the most incredible experience in my career," Jones told MTV News at last week's Diesel-sponsored Only the Brave concert. "Dr. Dre came to our studio, which was even more incredible. That was dope. We got to do a few songs with him. He coached me a bit.

"Jimmy Iovine gave us the link to him," he added. "That's a good man."

That Iovine, the chairman of Interscope/Geffen/A&M, aligned Dipset with Dre has only added to speculation that the New York crew is gearing up to ink a recording contract with Interscope Records, as first reported by Billboard.com.

Earlier this month, however, Juelz Santana declined to come clean about their future business plans — just yet.

"We'll wait for all of us [to be] together to announce the move we're making," Juelz explained to MTV News. "We were all in the studio, though."

Over the summer, Cam'ron revealed the collective had completed almost 10 songs for their comeback set. Jones said once the principals cleared their personal troubles, returning to the studio was second nature for them.

"It's a good feeling," Jones said. "Everybody just comes to the table with their best. It's brotherly competition so it only makes it better. Above all, we came back together for the brotherhood. We grew up together, so there was a love that was lost there. We regained that and it's time for music."

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey — The man behind "All I Do Is Win" left the new Meadowlands Stadium with a "W" in his back pocket on Sunday. DJ Khaled's set was the highlight of Hot 97's Summer Jam concert, as he orchestrated one of the greatest onstage artist lineups in the history of the now-legendary annual event.

"We brought out Cam'ron, Busta, Joe Crack [a.k.a Fat Joe], Rick Ross, Busta Rhymes, Vado, Ludacris, myself," Khaled said. "And I brought Barrington Levy out. We made a movie. I wanted to come out there with 20 minutes of straight excitement from beginning to the end. I just wanted to go bah, bah, bah!" the DJ said of wanting to bring the element of surprise to the Meadowlands crowd. "Every artist on the bill is superstars. I was thinking to myself, 'What am I gonna do?' Because [so many of] the artists are already on the bill. I had to pull out cards like the Barrington card, the Busta card, the Killa [Cam] card. That's hip-hop, man."

Khaled let each of his guests rock the stage for a short while. But no one got a bigger response than Harlem's own Cam'ron, who made his return to SJ for the first time in more than three years. Killa came out to his classic "I Really Mean It."

Khaled's set ended with a nod to his current hit, the remix of "All I Do Is Win." More than 50,000 people did as it says on the chorus: They put their hands up — and kept 'em there.

" 'All I Do is Win,' to see the whole stadium put their hands in the sky," Khaled marveled on his set highlights. "And of course when Cam'ron came out, you felt that New York energy. That was important to be in New York. Then when Crack came out with that 'Ha Ha' and of course Ricky Ross broke the new record onstage ... 'Super High' and '[Blowin' Money Fast] B.M.F.' This is just a movie man. It's hip-hop. This is what I'm talking about."

Trey Songz, Usher, Drake, Nicki Minaj, Fabolous, Gucci Mane and Juelz Santana were also among those who performed at this year's Summer Jam.

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey — One of the most anticipated moments of Hot 97's Summer Jam concert on Sunday night was one that was unadvertised, though all the fans felt it was a foregone conclusion: the reunion of the New York rap giants the Diplomats.

Juelz Santana was on the bill with his first solo set, but instead of bringing out the members of his unit, he brought out the youngest member of the G-Unit, Lloyd Banks. They made for one of the strongest moments of the night with their smash "Beamer, Benz or Bentley." But what happened to the Dip's reunion? One source close to their camp said Jim Jones had some issues with security and police and was not granted entrance in the new Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Freekey Zekey and Cam'ron came out later in the night as part of DJ Khaled's show-stealing set. Hot 97 advertised that Khaled would be bringing out "friends," and no one knew what to expect. Well, if you follow the Miami multi-tasking, up-and-coming mogul, you would have to suspect that he'd bring out Rick Ross. The two down-bottom mayors are thicker than Starsky and Hutch. Plus, Ross and Khaled did interviews together on Hot 97 earlier in the day.

Khaled's set started with his "All I Do Is Win" remix. Rolling deeper than two football teams, Khaled paraded out T-Pain (who sang the hook) and Busta Rhymes, who unleashed one of the most stylistically bulletproof verses of the year.

Ross and Ludacris took the spotlight over on the "I'm So Hood" remix, and Busta regained the reins on his fresh new bopper "Stop the Party." Rick Ross saluted the playas with "Super High" then continued with the "Angels" remix and his new club stomper "Blowin' Money Fast (B.M.F.)." Fat Joe got a big ovation for his entrance, which was on "Ha Ha (Slow Down Son)."

"You think I'm dead?" Khaled then asked the crowd. Just then, the unforgettable bass line of Shyne's "Bad Boyz" came on. The legendary Barrington Levy came out with his reggae scatting and then sang his famous part from Shyne's throwback anthem.

"Man a Bad Boy on the corner/ So move from on here, 'cause we a dangerous/ Man a Bad Boy on the corner./ So move from on here, 'cause we a dangerous."

The most thunderous yells of the night came next. It was a loud, barbaric, Summer Jam moment when the Dips' King Jaffe Joffer came from behind the wall of humanity Khaled had on the stage for the group's "I Really Mean It."

"Y'all n---as dreamed it/ I have seen it/ Body warm, heart anemic," Cam'ron rapped.

"I really mean it," the crowd answered back with adoration.

"Coke, a n---a steamed it/ Fiends I leaned 'em/ Beamer leaned it."

"I really mean it!" the stadium roared back.

Cam then handed the mic to his new first-round draft pick Vado. The two performed "Speakin Tungs."

You can't sleep on young superstar Trey Songz now. Before Khaled's set, the Virginia native held down the stage supremely, all by himself.

The ladies screamed for Trey like he was the black Elvis when he sang songs like "Invented Sex."

"I am the panty dropper," he rapped right before "Neighbors." "Come and see your doctor/ ... The pleasure, the pain, neighbors know my name."

His shirt came off shortly after.

"Imagine this stage was a room," he told the ladies. "There was a bed right here. Imagine your body pushed up against the wall like that. ... Is it all right if I touch you?"

Songz then pretended to have a woman in his warm embrace. "You taste so sweet," he said before he started grinding.

He later brought a real woman onto the stage. As he held her from behind, he told her to open her mouth wide, which she did, and poured bottled water down her throat. This led to "Say Aah."

"Go girl, it's your birthday, open wide. I know you thirsty," the stadium sang along with him.

"Summer Jam is an experience. I went from 500 people to performing with 60,000," Songz told MTV News backstage as he stood next to Busta Rhymes.

"Stop that humble sh--," Buss implored. "You can talk crazy. That's OK."

Busta declared that he was the Trey Songz ambassador. "I'mma keep it 100," he said. "Ain't nobody f---in' with Trey Songz. It is what it is. I put a lot of money where my mouth is. ... I saw it myself, 60,000 tonight. The big homie had the prime slot and he flattened the building."

Usher had the closing spot of the night. The Grammy winner came straight from London to perform. His set showed his range as he rolled out a modest portion of his catalog. Ursh sang about home-wrecking threesomes with bisexual women on "Lil' Freak" then went to being blown away by cupid's arrow on his closer, the summer smash "OMG."

If leaving the crowd wanting more is the goal in show business, the Drake certainly accomplished his mission. Drizzy's set was well shy of an hour, giving him enough time to perform a few of his own hits like "Over" and "Forever" and bring out guests the Birdman and Nicki Minaj. Nicki had to be considered an MVP for the night. Besides Drake's set, she came out with Ludacris for "My Chick Bad" and Usher for the aforementioned "Lil' Freak."

Gucci Mane, Reflection Eternal and Fabolous all also performed with their own sets.
