Made up of singer/songwriter/guitarist Scott Thomas and beatmaker/producer Balthazar Getty, alternative pop-rock group Ringside was formed in L.A. when housemates and friends Getty and Thomas decided to pool their musical talents. Getty, an actor and great-grandson of oil magnate J. Paul Getty, was into making beats for underground hip-hop groups on his SP-1200 sampler while his counterpart drew his inspiration from artists like Bob Dylan, The Stooges, The Clash, T-Rex, and Depeche Mode. A clothing designer who created threads for stars like Sean Penn and No Doubt, Thomas got fed up with seeing everyone else in the limelight and not putting out his own music. He ended up selling all his possessions and dedicated himself to writing songs. Eventually deciding that two heads were better than one Thomas collaborated with Getty to do an initial demo and Ringside was born. Their self-titled album was released in April of 2005.
