The sound you might have heard this week was that of Deadheads busting out their mothballed tour gear and seeing if they can still fit into those faded tie-dyes and backless peasant tops.
</p><p>Since fans played it cool over last weekend's two-day reunion festival of the surviving members of the Grateful Dead in Wisconsin (see <a href="/news/articles/1456447/20020805/grateful_dead.jhtml">"Surviving Grateful Dead Members Reunite For First Time Since Garcia's Death"</a>), the ultimate jam group is returning the favor and taking their show back on the road.
</p><p>Seven years after the death of legendary guitarist/singer Jerry Garcia, the
Other Ones &#8212; guitarist/singer Bob Weir, bassist Phil Lesh, drummer
Bill Kreutzmann and percussionist Mickey Hart &#8212; have kept their
promise to mount a U.S. tour this fall. The 13-city outing will kick off
November 14 in Roanoke, Virginia, and is currently slated to run through
December 2 in Rosemont, Illinois, according to the group's Web site.
</p><p>The Other Ones used their first full reunion shows last weekend &#8212;
Hart, Weir and Lesh have performed as the Other Ones, sans Kreutzmann, since
Garcia's death &#8212; as a test to see if their fans could peacefully
assemble. Walworth County, Wisconsin, authorities initially denied the band
a permit for the shows &#8212; billed as "Terrapin Station: A Grateful Dead
Family Reunion &#8212; at East Troy, Wisconsin's Alpine Valley Music Theatre
based on fears that tens of thousands of ticketless fans would show up and
cause havoc (see ).
</p><p>As with the Wisconsin shows, keyboardists Jeff Chimenti and Rob Barocco and
guitarist/singer Jimmy Herring will fill out the band's roster.

The Grateful Dead will be allowed to keep on truckin'.
</p><p>On Friday officials in Walworth County, Wisconsin, reversed an earlier
decision and granted a permit for Grateful Dead reunion shows on August 3
and 4 at the Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy.
</p><p>The event, called Terrapin Station Featuring the Other Ones, will be the
first performance by Grateful Dead members Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart
and Bill Kreutzmann as an ensemble since Dead leader Jerry Garcia's death in
1995.
</p><p>Concert promoter Clear Channel's request was initially rejected, the
Walworth County Board Executive Committee said, due to concern for the
health and safety of, and security problems potentially caused by, the
200,000 fans expected to descend on a venue equipped to hold only 35,000.
</p><p>In a statement released Monday (July 1), Clear Channel spokesperson Larry
Wethers said the company is "committed to providing a safe, enjoyable, live
entertainment event." Wethers added that Clear Channel "will continue to
work closely with the Walworth County Sheriff's Department on many aspects
of managing a safe show."
</p><p>Since both shows are sold out, Clear Channel is urging fans without tickets
to steer clear of the venue. "Anyone without a ticket will not be allowed on
the premises. No exceptions," vowed Wethers. Furthermore, he assured fans
that no tickets will be available on the day of the show.

<P> The Other Ones, the band featuring former Grateful Deaders Mickey Hart, Bob Weir, and Bruce Hornsby, has announced plans to head out on the road for another edition of the Furthur Festival tour, starting on August 23 in San Diego.</P> <P>Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers will open the 2000 Furthur Festival, which returns after taking last summer off in order for ex-Dead bassist Phil Lesh to recover from the liver surgery he had in December 1998 (see <a href="/news/articles/1429701/19990318/grateful_dead.jhtml"><B>"Further Festival Takes Summer Off As Dead's 'Terrapin Station' Continues Looking For Site"</a></b>).</P> <P>Lesh apparently won't be rejoining his former Dead compatriots for this year's Furthur, and he plans on taking his own band out on the road with Bob Dylan in the next few weeks (see <a href="/news/articles/1428446/20000516/dylan_bob.jhtml"><B>"Bob Dylan Wins Polar Prize, Maps Out Summer Tour"</a></b>). Tour promoters note, however, that various special guests will be turning up on select cities, leaving
the door open for a possible appearance by Lesh.</P> <P>"Why have we decided on another stroll down counter-culture memory lane?" asked Bruce Hornsby in a statement. "Because two years ago our Other Ones' tour was musically very special, and we would like to try to create that same feeling once again."</P> <P>Prior to the launch of the tour, Hybrid Recordings will issue "Furthurmost," a collection of songs culled from past editions of the tour, and the follow-up to the earlier "Furthur Festival" and "Furthurmore" albums.</P> <P>Dates for the 2000 Furthur Festival:</P> <UL> <LI>8/23 - San Diego, CA @ Coors Amphitheatre <LI>8/24 - Anaheim, CA @ Arrowhead Pond <LI>8/25 - Mountain View, CA @ Shoreline Amphitheatre <LI>8/27 - George, WA @ The Gorge <LI>8/29 - Denver, CO @ Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre <LI>8/31 - E.
