Former New Radicals frontman Gregg Alexander has finally resurfaced in the producer-songwriter position he disbanded his former group to pursue.

Alexander has co-written and produced a song called "Life Is A Rollercoaster" for the solo project by Ronan Keating, a member of the Irish boy band Boyzone.

According to the U.K. publication Dotmusic, "Life Is A Rollercoaster" will be released in Britain on July 10 as the lead single from Keating's solo album, tentatively titled "Ronan," which is being completed in a Los Angeles studio this week.

The five-member group Boyzone, a huge draw overseas, is perhaps best known on these shores for appearing alongside U2 for "The Sweetest Thing" and making a white-suited cameo appearance in the video.

Alexander suddenly disbanded New Radicals last summer after band logged a hit single, "You Get What You Give," off its debut (and only) album, "Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too" (see "Free Radicals: Gregg Alexander Disbands New Radicals"). Alexander, the only permanent member of the band, issued a statement that said in part that he was "more interested in being the next Mutt Lange than a performer."

Since that time, the only news from Alexander has been the quiet release earlier this year of an album by former child star Danielle Brisebois, a close associate of Alexander's and a part-time member of New Radicals.

Attention, New Radicals fans: frontman Gregg Alexander has just given away the ending.
After producing one album, "Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too," and a hit single, "You Get What You Give," New Radicals has been disbanded.
In a statement released Monday morning, Alexander said he's tired of fronting what he referred to as a "One Hit Wonder," and that he was "more interested in being the next Mutt Lange than a performer."
Alexander, the creative impetus behind the group, says he will now focus on forming his own production company and writing songs for other artists, including former New Radicals singer Danielle Brisebois. (Alexander produced and co-wrote Brisebois' 1994 debut album, "Arrive All Over You.) Most of the remaining Radicals will serve as Brisebois' backing band.
"It was an experience playing the artist," Alexander continued, "but I accomplished all of my goals with this record, and I'm ready to move on and make the next step in my career."
Rumors
about Alexander's unhappiness with the live-performance aspect of New Radicals began to surface in mid-May, after the band pulled out of a high-profile gig at the first Hard Rock RockFest in Atlanta (see "New Radicals Cancel RockFest Appearance").
At the time, representatives for the group's label hinted that Alexander had become tired of touring behind "Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too," which was released in October 1998.
Monday's announcement also hinted at Alexander's growing disdain for the highways and byways associated with the music biz. "I'm going to be turning 30 next year," he wrote, "and realize that the fatigue of traveling and getting three hours sleep in a different hotel every night to do boring 'hanging and schmoozing' with radio and retail people is definitely not for me."
The group had shot a video for its just-released single, "Someday We'll Know," although both MCA Records spokespeople and Alexander's
current publicists were unaware if the video would be completed in light of the band's dissolution.
According to Alexander's new handlers, lawyers representing the frontman and MCA Records reached an amicable settlement involving the Radicals' demise a few weeks ago but have waited until now to make the breakup public.
The next project for Alexander will be producing the upcoming album by Brisebois, whom vintage TV watchers may remember as the child actress who played "Stephanie Mills" on "All in the Family" and "Archie Bunker's Place." Brisebois' next record is expected to be released via MCA/BMG Records in September.

After canceling plans for a U.K. tour last week, the New Radicals have now pulled out of a scheduled appearance at the inaugural edition of the Hard Rock RockFest being held in Atlanta on June 5.
Spokespeople for both the New Radicals and RockFest confirm that the band has withdrawn from the concert, which is expected to draw a crowd of some 150,000 to the Atlanta Motor Speedway.
According to representatives for the Radicals' American label, MCA Records, an unspecified member of the group's touring lineup has fallen ill, prompting Radicals frontman Gregg Alexander to nix its RockFest gig as well as its U.K. tour, which was to kick off on May 17 in London. Earlier reports had suggested that Alexander was the one who had become sick, a claim that the band's publicist flatly denied.
RockFest officials will now seek another act to replace the New Radicals for the all-day concert, whose lineup currently features the Offspring, Third Eye Blind, and Everlast, among others (see "The Offspring, Sugar Ray, Mighty Mighty Bosstones To March Through Georgia For RockFest"). Organizers are hoping to announce the stand-in band within the next week.
Meanwhile, the New Radicals will spend the downtime planning a video for "Someday We'll Know," the second single from the band's debut record, "Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too."

Former New York street singer Gregg Alexander is the driving force behind the New Radicals, the group that's scored a mall-trashing hit with its new single, "You Get What You Give" [28.8 RealVideo] the first from the debut album, "Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too."

In the song, Alexander throws out a dis to such contemporary musical luminaries as Hanson, Beck, Courtney Love and Marilyn Manson, whose butt Alexander offers to kick. MTV News asked the leader of the New Radicals if he feared any reprisals from the artists or their entourages.

"Actually the truth about that particular lyric," Alexander said, half-heartedly, "is that I'm a major major major fan of Hanson, Courtney Love, Marilyn Manson. I wanted to make sure they got as much exposure as possible." [28.8 RealVideo]

In
response to
the line, MTV's Kurt Loder caught up with Marilyn Manson recently, and asked him about the unexpected lyrical attack, which Manson said he found irritating for only one particular reason.

"I'm giving an open invitation to the singer of the New Radicals," Manson said, "because he's all strange and spiritual, and he challenged me in one of his songs. A lot of people would say, 'Y'know, don't give him the attention, cause that's what he wants.' But I think I'll crack his skull open if I see him."

"What does the song say?" Loder asked.

"Well, you guys are playing it," Manson said,

The New Radicals are playing a few promotional shows prior to the holidays, and are looking to kick-off a U.S. tour in early 1999.
