The latest pop classic to resurface in a Fugees-oriented track is "99 Luftballoons," an 80s nugget recorded by the German chanteuse Nena and now revisited in "Ninety Nine" by Refugee Camp member John Forté.

"Ninety Nine" is the first single from Forté's new solo album, "Poly Sci," and sprung from the musical mind of Fugee Wyclef Jean, who co-produced the song with fellow Fugee Pras.

The chorus vocals on the track were recorded by Jeni Fujita, but Forté did get to meet up with Nena in Germany to record an international remix of the song.

"It was a real pleasure and a real blast, if you will, to go out there and work with her," Forté told our pals in the MTV Radio Network. "And she liked the song, and that made me feel good. It made me feel that I wasn't just comin' up from behind the artist and puttin' her in a headlock and
sayin', 'Alright, gimme your track,' and runnin' away with it. So I felt it was a cooperative effort and I was happy to be a part of it." [220k Audio]

No word on whether or not that remix will be released domestically, but Forté says he hopes that it does.

Later this month, Forté will join Wyclef and the Refugee Camp All Stars on the Smokin' Grooves tour which also features Public Enemy, Gang Starr, Busta Rhymes, and others. Forté will also turn up on this summer's Lilith Fair tour of all places when he joins Queen Latifah for a week-long stint on the primarily all-female tour.
