Miley Cyrus thanked fans for their support at her performance on Saturday at KIIS-FM's Wango Tango show in Irvine, California.

"We're all changing," the 15-year-old singer told the crowd, according to People.com. "I thank you for helping me as I grow through that."

During her 30-minute set, Cyrus didn't directly address the racy photos that appeared in Vanity Fair and on the Internet, the site reported, and managed to avoid speaking with reporters by not walking the event's red carpet. But, as she did last weekend at her Disney Games appearance in Orlando, Florida, she thanked fans for supporting her "through everything that's been going on in life."

Late last month, the singer issued a statement apologizing both for controversial photos she'd taken privately, depicting her in her bra and panties, and for those she'd taken for the Vanity Fair spread. Cyrus, who expressed embarrassment over the pictures, appeared to be topless in the images, which were shot by celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz.

In the statement, Cyrus said, "The pictures of me on the Internet were silly, inappropriate shots. I appreciate all the support of my fans and hope they understand that along the way I am going to make mistakes and I am not perfect. I never intended for any of this to happen, and I am truly sorry if I have disappointed anyone. Most of all, I have let myself down. I will learn from my mistakes and trust my support team. My family and my faith will guide me through my life's journey."

In the weeks since the photos began circulating, Justin Timberlake, Madonna, Paramore's Hayley Williams, Heidi Montag, Lauren Conrad, Hilary Duff, Nick Cannon, Joe Jonas of the Jonas Brothers and lots of fans and parents have spoken about the controversy.

You'd have to be living under a large gray blanket for the past few days not to hear about Miley Cyrus' photo spread for next month's Vanity Fair, shot by the renowned Annie Leibovitz. But despite Cyrus' quick apology, the impact of MileyGate is still being felt as hoards of teens and parents alike have been forced to consider the rights and wrongs of the 15-year-old "Hannah Montana" star's risqué photos.

On Tuesday, MTV News intern Jackie Burns used the Newsroom Blog to air her grievances as a Miley fan and as someone who remembers that purgatory of being not a girl and not yet a woman (and yes, the unfortunate Britney reference is becoming an integral part of this debate).

"Parents of younger fans — and the big boys in suits — tend to put girls like Miley in a box, packaged with a pretty pink bow and lots of sunshine," Burns wrote. "Realistically, that's not what 15-year-old girls are made of." And the comments came rolling in.

"I would much rather that they continue to guide her to be the role model they had the whole world believing she is, even though she's now a mature 15," commenter Teen Mom declared. "Hello to the next Spears family???"

Responses from both sides were equally passionate. Raeve1 praised the photo, explaining, "It made me think of a little girl that had gotten into her mother's makeup and was putting on her mother's clothes to look like a grownup. I thought it was innocent and beautiful."

The fact that many have deemed the photo to be sexualized prompted Shannon, a mother of a 9-year-old, to comment, "I think what we need to all look at is how the media has perverted this beautiful picture of a beautiful girl coming of age."

That interpretation is a far cry from what other critics have thought the shot represented. "These are professional photos, where adults dressed up a young girl to look much older, to emulate an erotic situation," Eve wrote.

Many sympathized with the pop sensation's approach to exhibiting her personal growth, "This is an innocent teen that was taken advantage of," B. Russell said. "Miley, you have no reason to be sorry; you did nothing wrong. I am just sorry that you have to go through the bullsh-- of all this. You keep up the good work."

Commenter Gina reminded readers that celebrities like Miley are "just like us, doing mistakes and learning from them."

"She's acting like a normal 15-year-old girl. The only difference is that everything she does makes it onto the news," Shawn rationalized. Clarissa concurred in her comments, exclaiming, "The pictures are beautiful, and I've seen much worse." But MissKing offered an exception: "I am 16. I see other girls doing much worse in photos, but she is held up as this role model, and she IS NOT A NORMAL GIRL. She is a celebrity."

Many commenters were neither as kind nor as understanding in their feedback. "The Charles Barkley argument is a tired one," hahaha wrote, recalling the hoops player's stance that not every celebrity should be considered a role model. "You want life in the public eye? Then learn to accept public criticism. People pay to watch you work. That makes you not normal. If you don't care, more power, but if you have built an image you want to protect, then smarten up and act accordingly."

Taking issue with Miley's supposed appreciation for the shot's "artistry," Bfranklins shot back, "Sorry, Miley, but you wouldn't know art if it bought the entire floor of one of your inflated Winnie the Pooh Striptease Spectaculars and you stage-dived into it. And you sure aren't going to learn what it is from your mom and dad."

Caitilin Michigan held a similar ire for the star and tersely typed, "Miley Cyrus is a horrible girl who just wants publicity."

Many thought Cyrus had disregarded her status as a role model to young girls when she mugged for Leibovitz. "My 5-year-old loves this girl, and so does everyone in her kindergarten class. This type of behavior by 'Hannah Montana' is repulsive and her parents have every right to be angry and ashamed right now. Miley can't do what she wants to do. She is a cash cow for Disney. If she wants to live her life, then her parents need to retire her as soon as the contract expires," reader Dee Dee cautioned.

Trish, another mother, added: "Art or not. It's not something little minds are equipped to, or should have to, process just yet."

Reader taxigirl perhaps best explained Cyrus' limbo between role model and maturing teen. "[This scandal] violates an implicit trust between her and the kids (and the parents of the kids) who are her fans. If any teenager who was babysitting or giving swim lessons or being a camp counselor acted in front of the kids the way they act among other teenagers, they'd be promptly fired. Sucks to be her, but at least she's making good money off of it."

Then Carl put the situation into perspective: "Life's not fair, get over it. In three years she can pose for Playboy or whatever else she wants."

What do you think? Is Miley Cyrus still worthy of her "role model" status? Is that something she wanted in the first place? Keep the conversation going here!

Miley Cyrus has a lot of things the rest of us don't: a hit TV show, guaranteed sold-out concerts everywhere she goes, really great hair and, oh yeah, $18.2 million. That's how much the 15-year-old "Hannah Montana" star earned last year according to Parade magazine's annual "What People Earn" list, putting her above other teen celebs.

That vaulted her ahead of another cash machine and former teen star, Mary-Kate Olsen, 21, who landed on the list with $17 million last year, as well as a guy who has more jobs than you and all your friends combined, "American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest, who pulled in $12 million. Cyrus also bested former "Idol" winner Carrie Underwood, who banked a not-too-shabby $7 million.

Other top earners included actresses Jessica Alba ($9 million), "Knocked Up" star Katherine Heigl ($11 million) and Scarlett Johansson ($5 million), Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning ($11.5 million), model Gisele Bündchen ($33 million) and 50 Cent, whose bottom line added $33 million, no doubt boosted by the sales of his stake in Vitamin Water.

And then there are those stars who are in a whole other league, from TV shrink and Britney interventionist wannabe Dr. Phil McGraw ($90 million) to "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" director Steven Spielberg ($110 million) to golfer Tiger Woods ($115 million) and, of course, mega-mogul Oprah Winfrey, who stacked up $260 million.

If none of that makes you feel like a slacker, there's always Trouble, the beloved Maltese that belonged to notoriously nasty New York real-estate mogul Leona Helmsley, who died last year, leaving her dog a $12 million trust.

More Miley! The "Hannah Montana" star has freshened up her Best of Both Worlds Tour schedule with 14 additional January dates, meaning more of her fans will be thrilled and more opportunities will be had for raging ticket controversies. Instead of capping off her tour January 9 in Albany, New York, Cyrus will hit the following cities: Detroit (January 11); Milwaukee (January 13); Chicago (January 14); St. Louis (January 15); Las Vegas (January 18-19); Glendale, Arizona (January 22); Austin, Texas (January 24); Lafayette, Louisiana (January 25); New Orleans (January 26); Orlando, Florida (January 28-29); Jacksonville, Florida (January 30); and Miami (January 31). The Jonas Brothers have been opening for Cyrus but will be replaced by Aly & AJ from January 11-24, after which a yet-unannounced supporting act will take over for the remaining shows. ...

Shia LaBeouf's criminal trespassing charge has just gone poof. Walgreens Co. and a security company announced via a letter read in a Chicago court Wednesday (December 12) that they will not continue a case involving criminal charges against the actor for refusing to leave one of the chain's stores in early November. The "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" star, who reportedly appeared intoxicated at the time of the incident, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor criminal trespassing. ...

"Fantastic" news for Jessica Alba: The actress is pregnant, People.com reports. According to the site, the "Awake" star's representative said her boyfriend Cash Warren is the father. Alba reportedly met Warren on the set of "Fantastic Four" in 2004, at which point they began dating. The actress was reportedly in talks to go to Broadway for a revival of the David Mamet play "Speed-the-Plow." ... Relatedly, it's hard out here for a ... Broadway star? Terrence Howard has signed on for an all-black version of Tennessee Williams' "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" that will debut March 6 at New York's Broadhurst Theatre. James Earl Jones, Phylicia Rashad and Anika Noni Rose of "Dreamgirls" will also star in the third revival of the production, which marks Howard's stage debut. He will play Brick, the aging alcoholic ex-football player. ...

What do John Legend and Eddie Vedder have in common, besides a great set of pipes? The singers are joining together to provide music for an upcoming documentary miniseries based on Howard Zinn's "A People's History of the United States," a 1980 book that is widely read in high schools and colleges, and its companion piece, "Voices of a People's History of the United States," according to Billboard.com. "The People Speak" will begin production in Boston in January and also involve Viggo Mortensen, Josh Brolin and other actors. Vedder brought Zinn, a Boston University professor, onstage at a Pearl Jam show in Boston three years ago. ...

Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe have more than their Australian backgrounds in common. Forbes has named the actors as the most overpaid celebrities in Hollywood, according to a complicated formula involving the stars' salaries, budgets and returns for movies in which they have appeared, and more. Jim Carrey, Will Ferrell and Adam Sandler also made the list. ...

Just in time for Christmas comes news that Britney Spears has been offered to play the role of the Virgin Mary in the upcoming film "Sweet Baby Jesus," a humorous retelling of the nativity story, according to Us Weekly. "I had to convince my partners because they were like, 'Oh, no. Britney?' " Philippe Rebboah, the film's French producer, reportedly said. "But I thought it was brilliant. It's a bit ironic that she would play the Virgin Mary, no? ... She likes the idea, that's what I heard." Rebboah added that the singer is reviewing the script and will make a decision soon whether to act in the movie, which will be filmed in March. ... You could say this year's "Idol Gives Back" charity special was a wee bit successful — it only raked in a mere $75 million, for charities in the U.S. and Africa. "American Idol" will give the fundraiser another go on April 9 at 8 p.m. with a two-hour special featuring performances and appearances by yet-unnamed celebrities, according to Variety. The show itself will be back January 15 with a two-hour special. ...

Sigur Rós are plotting a batch of theatrical screenings for "Heima," the new documentary film they released late last month. The movie, which revolves around a series of free shows the band played in its native Iceland last summer, will be shown Tuesday (San Francisco, Denver); December 19 (Boston, Atlanta); and December 20 (Austin, Texas; Seattle). ... A lock of John Lennon's hair that went up for bid Wednesday had been estimated to sell for $4,000 to $6,000 — but an unnamed telephone bidder actually shelled out $48,000 for it in the Beatles memorabilia auction, The Associated Press reports. The items in the auction had been collected by the legendary group's hairdresser, and a photo of the band dedicated to her — it was signed "George 'Dandruff' Harrison" — went for $13,000. ...

Music/social-networking site Mog.com relaunched on Wednesday with some seriously beefed-up content. As the result of a deal with Rhapsody Music Service — a joint venture with MTV — Moggers can now listen to millions of full-length songs on their own pages and on the pages of others, and a new search function provides instant access to specific music anywhere on Mog. Using the "play all" function, users can hear what like-minded people are listening to, while the "play this page" function lets users instantly create a playlist of every song mentioned on another Mogger's page. ... Maybe this is where those Led Zeppelin tour rumors came from: Nashville's WSMT-TV is reporting that Zep frontman Robert Plant and bluegrass star Alison Krauss will take the stage together at the Bonnaroo festival in Manchester, Tennessee, in June to perform songs from their collaborative CD, Raising Sand. The fest will be held June 12-15.

Like Jay-Z rapped once before, "Money Ain't a Thang." The Def Jam prez has denied a report in New York's Daily News indicating that salary was a sticking point in negotiating his return to the hip-hop label. His original contract is up at the end of this month, and so far, his return hasn't been announced. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly shortly after the Grammy nominations were announced, Jay — who nabbed five nods — revealed the two sides were "close." But he wouldn't guarantee anything. He said salary wasn't even near the top of his list of considerations. "I don't know [if I'll be back]," Jay explained in the interview. "We'll see how it goes. But seriously, it's not about money. That's really the last thing. Of course, as a person that does these type of things and puts his heart and soul into it — and it's effective, as the [Grammy nominations] would indicate — you want to be compensated for what you do. But it's really not about money. It's really about the future of the music business, and not wasting anyone's time. I don't ever want to sit in a seat just to sit in a seat. I could be off doing something else that's beneficial to the future of the music business as well as myself. So it's not about money! I mean, you couldn't pay me enough. And I don't mean that in a cocky way." In other Jay news, he'll ring out 2007 with a performance of American Gangster on December 29 in Las Vegas, at the Palms Casino Resort's Pearl. The intimate show in the 2,500-seat venue won't be cheap: Tickets start at $128 and top out at $228. ...

Panic! at the Disco have pegged March 25 as the release date for their second album, which they still don't have a name for yet, according to Billboard.com. Guitarist Ryan Ross told the site the band is "working backwards" for the release, stripping down its sound and going for a more classic-rock approach. Songs will include "Things Have Changed" and "Nine in the Afternoon," a song the ensemble tried out during shows over the summer. Speaking of which, Panic are sketching out a tour that will see them playing U.S. theaters in March. "We're not going to do a circus show again," Ross promised. ...

Gwen Stefani made good on her promise to donate proceeds from her October 30 concert at San Diego's Cox Arena to victims of the wildfires by giving a whopping $166,000 to local charity the San Diego Foundation, which is helping the community recover. The Southern California singer's donation will be used in the form of Gwen Stefani After-the-Fires Scholarships distributed to students who lost their homes in the fires. ... And for all her problems, Britney Spears still has a heart too — the singer's Believe fragrance is teaming with MondoNation.com to benefit the Make a Wish foundation, Autism Speaks and the Nelson High School Africa Project. Limited-edition gift sets, fragrances, T-shirts and more are all up for bidding, with 100 percent of proceeds going to the charities. ...

Though Green Day didn't even have an album out this year — not counting their new rumored side project, Foxboro Hot Tubs — the band topped Lycos' list of most-searched bands of 2007. The rest of the list included the Pussycat Dolls, Fall Out Boy, Nickelback, Guns N' Roses, the Rolling Stones, Evanescence, Black Eyed Peas, the All-American Rejects and the Fray. ... Foo Fighters have swollen their tour plans with an injection of new dates. Dave Grohl and his cohorts will hit up Reno, Nevada (February 1); Oakland, California (February 2); Council Bluffs, Iowa (February 28); Glendale, Arizona (March 2); San Diego (March 3); and Los Angeles (March 5). ... Dr. Dre is still off the hook for taping a backstage conversation with Detroit city officials at a concert in 2000, The Associated Press reports. Circuit Judge John Murphy, who previously ruled against the officials — whose conversation with Dre was featured on his and Eminem's "Up in Smoke" tour DVD — dismissed an invasion-of-privacy case that had been brought against the rapper/producer (real name: Andre Young). According to the Detroit Free Press, Murphy had said in October that he might let the case go to trial, but he apparently changed his mind. ...

The Beatle and the hair: One of John Lennon's locks as well as other items from the iconic group will be up for sale starting Wednesday at an auction in southern England, AP reports. Beatles hairdresser Betty Glasow is the person behind the auction, and she got her hands on Lennon's lock when he gave it to her in a copy of his book "A Spaniard in the Works." The shows, to be held February 15, 16 and 18-20, will kick off the tour and explore "the band's complete recorded works," according to a statement. Singer Jeff Tweedy said, "Over the five nights we will attempt the 'complete Wilco' and try to clear out the dusty corners of the catalog that we haven't attended to in a while." The band promises a distinct, "one-of-a-kind set list each night." ... The tour itinerary for next year's Take Action! Fans who pick up four tickets to one of the shows will get a bonus: They'll get to chill with Every Time I Die at the venue and receive a Take Action! poster signed by the band.

PETA has really taken the gloves off this time. The animal-rights group's PETA2 arm is lashing out at Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen with "Trollsen Twins," a new campaign the organization debuted Tuesday with an unflattering ad at the twins' Walk of Fame star on Hollywood Boulevard. PETA2 also launched a grisly Web site devoted to the fur-wearing actresses that includes a video segment called "Full House of Horrors," in which scenes from the sisters' old TV show are intercut with scenes of animals being killed. ... It looks like Jammie Thomas — the 30-year-old single mom from Minnesota who was the first person to lose a file-sharing lawsuit brought by the Recording Industry Association of America — won't be able to avoid paying the $220,000 fine she was hit with in October. In a recent decision, the U.S. Justice Department took the RIAA's side in the case, not agreeing with Thomas' lawyer that the damages awarded to the RIAA were disproportionate or excessively unreasonable. The ruling echoed the RIAA's argument that once a song is posted on a P2P network, it can be shared by millions of other users, though it is impossible to tell how many. ... In other RIAA news, according to court files posted on the legal blog Recording Industry vs. the People, the RIAA told the court in an Arizona file-sharing case, Atlantic vs. Howell, that it considers ripping personal CDs to MP3 format "unauthorized" and illegal. This goes against the RIAA's assertion in its 2005 case against the P2P site Grokster that ripping CDs is not illegal.

HOLLYWOOD — Muggles, magicians and movie stars alike converged on Grauman's Chinese Theatre on Sunday to be among the first to see "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," the fifth film in what could be the most popular film series of all time. Despite a merciless sun pounding down on their pale English complexions, stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint greeted thousands of screaming fans and insisted that their darkest movie yet indicates a bright future for the franchise.

(See the "Harry Potter" actors — and an effusive Miley Cyrus — at the "Order of the Phoenix" Hollywood premiere.)

"This is my first L.A. premiere, although I have been to New York before," gushed Daniel Radcliffe, dressed in a suit and tie and gazing out at the half-dozen bleachers filled with screaming fans (see "Daniel Radcliffe Dishes On Harry Potter's First Kiss, 'Deathly Hallows' Theories"). "L.A., you're a very different town to anywhere I've been in my life. It's just different and slightly strange. It's much cleaner than London — but I like the dirt of London."

Walking down a red carpet appropriately long enough for a source novel with 896 pages, the "Potter" crew premiered their movie to a crowd that included "Heroes" star Masi Oka, Ashley Tisdale from "High School Musical" and "Hannah Montana" chart-topper Miley Cyrus (see "Kelly Clarkson Loses Billboard #1 To Hannah Montana").

"It's really long, this red carpet, and there are tons of fans out here," Tisdale marveled, admitting that "Potter" fans may even outnumber all those "High School Musical" addicts.

"You'd think by number five, people would be like, 'Another Harry Potter movie? Who cares?' " grinned Watson, who plays Hermione Granger in the series. "But this is just bigger. There are more people here than there were when we came here for 'Chamber of Secrets,' and these movies just keep getting bigger and bigger!"

"This one is a little darker, really," said Grint, who plays Harry's pal Ron Weasley. "There's not many light moments in it. From the beginning, you've got Dementors and Voldemort is back and he's pretty nasty. It's more grown-up as well — which is really good."

Grint was welcomed to L.A. like a conquering hero, walking past fans with signs featuring hand-drawn versions of the red-headed heartthrob — many even breaking out in a deafening chant. "It was 'Weasley Is Our King!' It's in the book," he said of the chant, used both sarcastically and then lovingly in the pages of "Phoenix" but ultimately edited out of the flick. "It's pretty cool, actually [to hear that]. It doesn't happen all the time — just in small spurts."

"I have no idea why people like me," laughed Radcliffe, laughing off his own deafening "Daniel! Daniel!" chants. "It's just my association with the books. But it's great that they do, and the reason they love the books is because it's such brilliant storytelling."

"This universe is so rich, and there are so many things to play with," said director David Yates, a newcomer to the "Potter" franchise. "For me, this story was about intensity and emotion, and it was about growing the world up. This is a world that everybody feels they know, but it was time to grow it up a little bit. ... I think the audience is ready for that, because they've gotten older as the movies have gotten older."

Yates revealed that he'll begin filming "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" in September (see "MTV News Exclusive: David Yates To Direct 'Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince' ") and that he's planted some breadcrumbs in "Phoenix" to pick back up with the sixth flick. "The relationship between Ginny and Harry, there's a little smidgeon of that in this movie in tiny little moments, and there are some threads the fans should enjoy, a few little gifts that hopefully they'll spot."

Adding that he'd also direct the seventh Potter flick "if I'm still standing in a year's time," the director revealed that he'll soon announce the casting of the most pivotal role for the sixth movie. "In 'Half-Blood Prince,' which we're preparing right now, we have Horace Slughorn, and we're just doing the deal for that actor right now. He's going to be absolutely delightful." Revealing that the actor is a recognizable face, Yates added: "I don't want to say his name yet, because we haven't quite concluded the deal — but I'm almost certain we're going to get him."

While on the topic of casting decisions, a few "Potter" stars let their imaginations run wild with us, revealing the role they'd most love to play had they not landed their now-iconic characters.

"There are so many really good ones," Grint said. "I really like Alan Rickman's Snape. ... He does it pretty perfectly, so I don't how I'd do it [any differently]."

"If I was older? Sirius Black," Radcliffe said without missing a beat. "I'd do everything Gary Oldman has. I'd never do as well as him, though."

Judging by the crazed fans crowding Hollywood Boulevard, nobody could be doing better than these young stars either. And come Friday, the box-office results are likely to reinforce that once again.

"I've seen all the movies," enthused Cyrus, anxiously eyeing the entrance to the theater. "Just the magic of it all — anytime you get to see [a movie] where it's something you wouldn't experience yourself, but you watch the movie and feel like you are experiencing it with the rest of the characters? That's really exciting."
