Full Biography

Maria Mena, the talented Norwegian singer/songwriter has made her debut in America with her album, White Turns Blue. Mena sings heartfelt songs from her own experience, and give a voice to the roiling emotions of adolescence and to life's deeper emotions.

Mena, who has written her own songs since childhood was discovered by her father, a professional musician. The two cut a demo of one of Mena's songs, "My Lullaby," and the song became a Norwegian national hit.

In 2002 Mena recorded her first Norwegian album, Another Phase. "The whole album is about not fitting in. I don't fit in anywhere and I've come to embrace that...I think all artists are misfits. It takes something extra to be able to explore yourself like that, to give so much of yourself," says Mena. Another Phase became a platinum album in Norway, and lead to live shows, national television appearances, and award nominations.

White Turns Blue, Mena's breakout American album, brings together a collection of Mena's songs, from buoyant pop tunes to heartfelt ballads, each illuminating a different aspect of her psyche. "I've always looked at music as an emotional thing," she says, "something that has to do with feelings"

Mena describes herself as an artist, and strives to stay open-minded to all styles of music, "...Within pop, you have little boundaries, I can do whatever I want: I can do jazz, soul, and R&B, all within pop. Music keeps on breaking boundaries, it keeps on pushing limits and that is what makes everything so universal and so amazing and I don't think we should explain it. Just leave it at that and basically see where it takes us next," she says. Mena has proved that she is not afraid to break her own boundaries and incorporate many styles and ideas into her music.
