London Suede Explores New Territory With "Head Music"

The London Suede unleashed its fourth album, "Head Music," on these shores on Tuesday. The album has already enjoyed a stay at number one in the U.K., yet the group hasn't managed to break through in the U.S. on the scale of such early-'90s peers as Oasis and Blur.

"Head Music" is the first album the band has recorded without Ed Buller behind the boards, as the group tapped former Happy Mondays producer Steve Osborne for the disc. According to frontman Brett Anderson, the record takes a colder and less emotional approach than its predecessors, and it required a lot of fine-tuning in the studio.

"We were in there a lot," Anderson told MTV News,

"Yeah," drummer Simon Gilbert interrupted. "And waiting for computers to be mended, etcetera." [RealVideo].

The first single is called "Electricity." Meanwhile, the band will release "She's In Fashion," the second single off the album, in the U.K. on June 14.

London Suede Looks For Missing Gear Online

May 27 [14:00 EDT] -- After a truck full of its gear turned up missing, the London Suede are turning to the Internet for help.

The band, whose gear was stolen after a gig in Boston on May 18, have posted a list of the pilfered equipment on its website (www.thelondonsuede.com) in hopes of turning up clues that will lead to the gear. The website features a detailed list of the instruments that were taken as well as serial numbers for each missing item.

Users who can offer help are encouraged to e-mail any leads to the band through the site, or call (617) 861-6180 extension 0.

The band says that, after playing a sold out show in Boston on May 17, they woke up the next morning to find that the truck holding their gear (as well as equipment that belonged to opening act the Longpigs) was gone. The thieves made off with an array of instruments, amps, drums and other necessities, but the band managed to borrow equipment and play their second Boston show on May 18 as an acoustic set.

Among the missing items are a Gibson J200 acoustic (serial no. 90381025), Fender jazz bass (serial no. 763532), Fender precision bass (serial no. 110588), Fender Telecaster (serial no. 37355), Fender Jaguar (serial no l93580), Fender Stratocaster Plus (serial no. London Suede's U.S. Return

March 28 [12:00 EST] -- The London Suede will embark on its first U.S. tour in over two years to flaunt the release of their new album, "Coming Up."

The new album and corresponding tour will mark the U.S. debut of the band's new line up, with new additions guitarist Richard Oakes and keyboardist Neil Codling joining Brett Anderson, Simon Gilbert, and Mat Osman.

The first version of "Coming Up," due to hit American shores on April 8, will be a double-CD set featuring CD-ROM enhanced bonuses, including videos, interviews, concert and studio footage, and a link to an "exclusive area" of the band's website.

The album has been a critical and commercial success in the U.K., spawning three top ten singles and landing at the top of the album chart. The band will try to bring that success Stateside on the following North American tour:
