L.A. Guns, Bang Tango, Lizzy Borden Coming Out For KNAC

It's shaping up to be 1988 all over again when L.A. Guns, Bang Tango, and Lizzy Borden come out to help Los Angeles-based hard rock station KNAC celebrate its first year on the Internet. Those bands, as well as a few special guests, will hit Anaheim's Boogie Co. on February 16 to say happy birthday to the station, which was reborn on the Net last year.
As we first reported in December of 1997 (see "Metal Mainstay KNAC Finds Home On The Internet"), the station was at the epicenter of the 80s metal scene in L.A., and saw its fortunes rise with music it specialized in. However, the station's format was switched to that of a Spanish language in 1995, prompting KNAC's hard rock devotees to seek a voice on the Internet (at www.knaclive.com).
A spokesperson for the station said that they hope to line up another act or two for the show.

L.A. Guns Singer Quits

Singer Ralph Saenz has left L.A. Guns, and his sudden departure has left the future of the band's pending live performances, and maybe even the future of the band itself, in doubt. According to "Metal Edge" editor Geri Miller, both sides say there were no musical or personal differences, and no animosity; Saenz just wanted to go do his own project.

Miller reports that bandleader Tracii Guns is "reeling" from Saenz's decision, which Guns says "came out of nowhere" and at a very inopportune time. Miller adds that it's possible they may pack it in and continue under a new name with a new singer.

The name L.A. Guns is probably best known for its role in the birth of Guns n' Roses, which was formed when a version of L.A. Guns merged with the band Hollywood Rose. Guns and Axl Rose were briefly bandmates.

The on again/off again group has traditionally had a revolving door of members. Saenz joined a new version of L.A. Guns last year as a temporary replacement for the
departing Chris Van Dahl. He was soon made a permanent member along side guitarist Guns, bassist Johnny Crypt and drummer Steve Riley.

In addition to his solo work, Saenz will continue with side projects that include fronting a Van Halen tribute band called the Atomic Punks, and a '70s retro cover band known as Boogie Nights.
