The ladies of L7 have put plans for their new video on hold after a bomb scare shut down production of the clip last weekend in Texas.
Actor and artist Viggo Mortensen (perhaps most widely seen in "G.I. Jane" and Gus Van Sant's "Psycho" remake) was set to direct the clip for "Crackpot Baby" in Austin. However, Mortensen called a halt to the shoot after L7 vocalist/lead guitarist Donita Sparks received the threat on her cell phone on November 13.
"We've pissed off a lot of people during our career, especially this year," L7 guitarist Suzi Gardner observed in a written statement. "It could have been anyone from anti-pro-choicers to Lilith Fairers."
The video shoot was originally slated for a brief break during the band's tour and has now been pushed back to mid-December after the tour is finished.
The video, which we're told involves monkeys, will be the first from the band's recently released album "Slap Happy."

After parting ways with the folks at Warner Bros. Records, L7 is back with a new label, a new album, and a new tour kicking off next month.
The ladies will hook up with Bong Load Records to release their sixth album, "Slap Happy," on August 24 (see "L7 Forms Label With Bong Load Records, Preps New Album).
Donita Sparks, Suzi Gardner, and Dee Plakas will then hit the road on August 15 in San Diego for a tour that runs through mid-September. Part of the trek will see the band opening a string of dates for Ministry as that band makes the rounds in support of the recently released "Dark Side of the Spoon."
For the tour, the band will employ the services of bassist Janis Tanaka, formerly of the San Francisco outfit Stone Fox. The position opened up after Gail Greenwood (formerly of Belly) left the band after touring behind its last Warner Bros. release, 1997's "The Beauty Process: Triple Platinum."
Last year, the band
hooked up with Man's Ruin Records just long enough to issue the live album, "L7: Omaha To Osaka" (see "L7 Live Album, Documentary Due In December").
If you want to see what the band is up to these days, here's where to look:

8/15 - San Diego, CA @ The Casbah (L7 headlining)
8/16 - Anaheim, CA @ Linda's Dollhut (L7 headlining)
8/17 - Los Angeles, CA @ Palladium (w/Ministry)
8/19 - Portland, OR @ Roseland Theater (w/Ministry)
8/20 - Seattle, WA @ Paramount Theater (w/Ministry)
8/21 - Eugene, OR @ WOW Hall (w/Ministry)
8/22 - San Francisco, CA @ Warfield (w/Ministry)
8/24 - Las Vegas, NV @ House of Blues (w/Ministry)
8/25 - Phoenix, AZ @ Celebrity Theater (w/Ministry)
8/26 - Denver, CO @ Bluebird Theater (L7 headlining)
8/27 - Lincoln, NE @ Knickerbockers (L7 headlining)
8/29 - Minneapolis, MN @ Foxfire (L7 headlining)
9/3 - Chicago, IL @ Lounge Axe (L7 headlining)

After releasing a live album last year on the indie label Man's Ruin Records, punk rock grrl group L7 has formed its own label, Wax Tadpole, which will issue the band's new studio album, "Slap Happy," on August 24.
Wax Tadpole is a joint venture between L7 and Bong Load Records, the same label currently involved in a contractual dispute with Beck involving his most recent album, the joint Geffen-Bong Load Records release, "Mutations" (see "Beck Battles Labels Over Business, Artistic Issues").
"We were really eager to release a new album in '99 for our fans," explained L7 guitarist Donita Sparks in a statement formally announcing the new label. "We started to realize that maybe it wouldn't be possible unless we did it ourselves, and the thought of having complete control was really exciting to us."
"Slap Happy" was produced by Brian Haught and features such songs as "Freezer Burn," "Lackey," "Mantra Down," and "On My Rockin'
Machine," and the group says it plans to hit the road in support of "Slap Happy" this summer.
The new L7 album is the studio follow-up to 1997's acclaimed "Triple Platinum: The Beauty Process," although the band was dropped by Warner Bros. later that same year. A concert record, "Live: Omaha to Osaka," was issued in 1998.

A long awaited live album from L7 will be released early next month on pop art guru Frank Kozik's independent label, "Man's Ruin." L7 was dropped by Warner Bros. last year.

Kozik tells MTV News that the album, called "Live - Omaha to Osaka," will feature 16 live tracks recorded at three different concerts. Roughly half the album was recorded at the Ranch Bowl in Omaha, Nebraska, September 3, 1997. The second half stems from a show taped at Club Quattro in Osaka, Japan, April 16, 1998.

The opening track is a "Medley Of Hits" performed by The John Marshall High School Marching Band. Kozik isn't sure how the connection was made -- he's not sure if an L7 member attended that school, or if the band was simply enamoured with L7 -- but an L7 show at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles April 23 featured the school band on stage performing roughly an eight-song medley of the best known L7 tracks in marching band style.

The album was produced by John Roecker. It's due
for release December 4.

L7 is also the subject of a soon-to-be-released documentary by former Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic. The documentary, to be issued on home video, is called "L7: The Beauty Process" and is unrelated to the live album. It features footage shot by Novoselic and crew while L7 and his own band, Sweet 75, toured together last year. It's also due in December.
