New Releases: Good Charlotte, J. Lo, Young Buck, Lil' Flip, Now 24 & More

This year's Billboard albums charts have been shocker after shocker, with Daughtry, Lloyd and even potential "Where Ya Been?" candidate Musiq Soulchild claiming the crown in recent months. This week's slate of new releases is full of powerhouses, which might make next week's chart even tougher to predict.

Here are 10 top-tier candidates and why each one has a shot at making a dent on this week's chart.

Good Charlotte's Good Morning Revival: For their fourth album, the Madden brothers took their posse back to where it started by enlisting producer Don Gilmore, who worked on their self-titled debut in 2000. But unlike before, the band collaborated with another artist for the first time ever on one of their albums: Avenged Sevenfold's M. Shadows and Synyster Gates, who appear on the first single, "The River."

Advantage: The band's 2004 effort, The Chronicles of Life and Death, reached #3 on the chart and went platinum.

Jennifer Lopez's Como Ama Una Mujer: ¡Por fin! Fans of the pop singer have been waiting forever for a Spanish-language album, and she delivers with an assist from producer/hubby Marc Anthony. Estefano and Julio Reyes also sit behind the boards, trying to figure out just exactly how a woman loves. Songs include: "Me Haces Falta," "Qué Hiciste" and "Te Voy a Querer."

Advantage: Like Good Charlotte, the singer's most recent album — 2005's Rebirth — landed in the top three (#2, in fact) and sold more than a million copies.

Various artists' Now That's What I Call Music! 24: The hit series of hit collections encompasses 20 pipin'-hot singles this time around, including "Irreplaceable" (Beyoncé), "My Love" (Justin Timberlake), "Promise" (Ciara), "Fergalicious" (Fergie), Daughtry ("It's Not Over") and the All-American Rejects ("It Ends Tonight").

Advantage: This series is all about the numbers, and the numbers tell it all: last year's 23 was the 10th Now installment to hit #1 and was the second-fastest album to go double-platinum last year.

Young Buck's Buck the World: Could a guest list get much more seismic than this? For the rapper's second effort, Eminem, Dr. Dre and 50 Cent produce; Young Jeezy, Chester Bennington of Linkin Park, Snoop, T.I., 8Ball and MJG, Jazze Pha, Pimp C, Bun B and 50 guest. Talk about universal appeal.

Advantage: The G-Unit member has been unintentionally in the limelight after becoming tangentially involved in the 50 Cent/ Cam'ron feud, which could wind up helping sales. Buck's debut, Straight Outta Cashville, opened at #3 and has sold a million and a half copies.

Lil' Flip's I Need Mine: The freestyle king piles a staggering 35 tracks onto his new two-disc set. His guest lineup doesn't quite measure up to Buck's, but it's not one to brush off, either: Chamillionaire, Lyfe Jennings, Three 6 Mafia, Mannie Fresh, Nate Dogg and Bun B pay visits.

Advantage: This Houston duder moved more than 100,000 copies of his Leprechaun debut before even getting signed to a major — with this Warner Bros. release, he'll certainly eclipse that number.

Macy Gray's Big: Macy who? The singer may have slid down the ladder in recent years, but a bevy of her friends haven't lost faith in her: The Black Eyed Peas' Will.I.Am is delivering this LP through his Will.I.Am Music Group partnership with Geffen, and Justin Timberlake, Nas, Fergie, Natalie Cole and Will himself hopped onboard.

Advantage: Big numbers probably aren't on the horizon for the singer — her last studio LP, 2003's The Trouble With Being Myself, opened at a flimsy #44. Now that she's signed to Will's label, she might see some slightly stronger numbers this time around.

Tha Dogg Pound's Dogg Ch--: The group just issued a comeback LP in July, but they're back with more doggie treats this week. This set features the Game ("Anybody Killa"), Snoop (first single, "Vibe With a Pimp"), Too Short ("Can't Get Enuff") and more top West Coast talent.

Advantage: This is the Pound's first self-produced album since their 1995 debut, Dogg Food. That effort went double-platinum ... could this one too?

Prodigy's Return of the Mac: Not to be confused with the rock band of the same name, one-half of Mobb Deep steps up this week with a new effort. The Alchemist-produced release is littered with samples of '70s soul songs, and is being classified as a mixtape for that reason — even though 50 Cent was reportedly so enthusiastic about the set that he wanted to issue it as a proper release. The Circuit City edition has three extra slices: "My Priorities," "That's That" (featuring Havoc) and "Last Words" (featuring Kokane).

Advantage: People seem to buy CDs that involve this guy "50 Cent."

Redman's Red Gone Wild: Thee Album: It's one thing for an album to bump, but for it to be postponed for nearly two years? Leave that to Red, who'll probably blame his partying ways. This is yet another LP heavy with guest spots — incorrigible cohort Method Man, plus Snoop, Erick Sermon, Keith Murray, Nate Dogg and Biz Markie all pay 'em. Scott Storch, Timbaland and Rockwilder produce to boot.

Advantage: The "H.R. Pufnstuf"-esque album cover is one of the more colorful illustrations to grace a rap release in recent memory. Maybe it'll distract consumers from the zillion other rap releases this week.

Kaiser Chiefs' Yours Truly, Angry Mob: Make room for the rock! Two years ago, the new wavers' Employment debut opened in the top 100 — not bad for a Brit-pop band in the U.S. Songs include "Love's Not a Competition (But I'm Winning)," "Learnt My Lesson Well" and "Everything Is Average Nowadays."

Advantage: The beefy deluxe edition is hard to say no to: It features a bonus DVD featuring six songs performed in Berlin last year and a 10-minute documentary, 24-page booklet and comes in digipak form.

TV on the Radio's Live at Amoeba: TV on the Radio not in the top 10, even though their Return to Cookie Mountain debuted at #41 and made it to virtually every best-of list last year? Well, that's because even hard-core fans might have a little trouble getting their hands on this limited-edition concert EP, which is only available at Amoeba Music stores. It features four Cookie cuts recorded at Amoeba's Hollywood location in September: "Blues From Down Here," "Wolf Like Me," "Province" and "Wash the Day." Hurry up — the CD is only available for 30 days but comes with a rare poster (and it only costs six bucks).

Various artists' Interpretations: Celebrating the Music of Earth, Wind & Fire: With Musiq Soulchild all the rage all over again right now, his cover of EW&F's "Reasons" should give the tribute compendium an extra boost. The long-in-the-works salute — part of the Stax label's 50th anniversary festivities — also features Angie Stone ("Be Ever Wonderful"), Chaka Khan ("Shining Star") and more.

The Fall's Reformation Post-T.L.C.: After tireless frontman Mark E. Smith's guitarists and drummer bailed on him and keyboardist/wife Eleni Poulou mid-tour in the summer, he enlisted a new backing band to take over. After the stint, the new configuration then recorded this 14-track opus, which comes with enhanced video capturing concert clips, extended songs and more.

West and Strokes win British magazine awards; Kid Rock's lawsuit delayed; 'Harry Potter' hits $600-million mark.

Kanye West took the prize for Best Solo Artist at this year's ShockWaves NME Awards, held in London on Thursday, while the Strokes were designated the Best International Band. More than 80,000 people cast votes for the prizes, which are picked by the British music magazine's readers. The evening's biggest winners were the Arctic Monkeys, who were named Best New Band as well as Best British Band and scored the Best Track prize for their song "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor." Franz Ferdinand took home the award for Best Live Band, and the Kaiser Chiefs' Employment was honored as the year's Best Album. Madonna scored Sexiest Woman, while Darkness frontman Justin Hawkins won the Worst Dressed award and James Blunt's Back to Bedlam earned the award no one wanted: Worst Album. "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" was chosen as Best Film. ...

"Goblet of Fire" has earned more than just the affection of NME readers; it's also racked up $600 million in international box-office receipts, making it only the fifth film to do so. According to Variety, the latest "Harry Potter" film joins "Titanic" (which has grossed $1.2 billion worldwide), "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" ($750 million), "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" ($657 million) and "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" ($616 million) in the list of films that have crossed the $600 million barrier. ... On Friday (February 24) a Detroit judge granted a request by Red Light District Video to delay a decision in a case involving Kid Rock until March 23. On Tuesday lawyers for Rock won a temporary injunction barring RLDV from distributing a sex tape involving their client, former Creed frontman Scott Stapp and four women. While the lawyers were hoping that U.S. District Court Judge John Feikens would grant their request for a permanent injunction on Friday, RLDV had retained the services of a Detroit-area attorney and will now have until the 23rd to present their case. ... The Gorillaz have slated their "Demon Days Live" DVD for a March release. The disc captures moments from the group's five-night stand at the Manchester Opera House, when 'Rillaz mastermind Damon Albarn played the Demon Days album in its entirety and was joined onstage by De La Soul and Ike Turner. The DVD includes full-screen visuals, created specifically for the Manchester shows by Gorillaz illustrator Jamie Hewlett. ...

Former "American Idol" hopeful Jennifer Hudson — who'll be making her feature film debut alongside Beyoncé and Jamie Foxx in "Dreamgirls" — has been named ShoWest's Female Star of Tomorrow, Variety reports. Hudson, who's recording an album that'll hit stores in 2007, will claim the honor at the closing night banquet during this year's annual ShoWest convention in Las Vegas on March 16. Hudson's in good company, as past recipients of ShoWest's Star of Tomorrow prize include Heath Ledger, Hilary Swank and LL Cool J. ... On Thursday, Apple's iTunes Music Store sold its billionth downloadable song to Alex Ostrovsky of Michigan. Ostrovsky was unaware that his purchase of Coldplay's "Speed of Sound" would afford him much more than an opportunity to crank the volume, but according to The New York Times, that $0.99 earned him a 20-inch iMac, 10 iPods and a $10,000 gift card for more downloads. Apple is also going to set up a scholarship at the Juilliard School in his name. ... English rockers Test Icicles have quickly gone from NBT to D.O.A. The bandmembers announced Tuesday that they're calling it quits, canceling in the process the U.S. tour that was scheduled to begin March 1. Guitarist Rory Atwell said in a longwinded statement, "In our current state of disrepair it was never going to happen and if we did try and make it happen it probably would have led to something much worse happening and the three of us disappearing somewhere near Utah never to be seen again, or something like that." The band's debut album, For Screening Purposes Only, came out in late January. ...

The body of a man found in a Brentwood apartment February 5 has been identified as Todd Kevin Wallace, the 44-year-old paparazzo who was facing assault charges stemming from an incident with actress Reese Witherspoon. According to The Associated Press, the coroner's office confirmed his death Thursday, but the cause of death is still under investigation pending toxicology results. Wallace was charged with assault and battery following an incident at Disneyland involving Witherspoon and one of her daughter's friends; he was alleged to have hit a 5-year-old girl in his attempts to snap a shot of Witherspoon, who refused to have her picture taken. In December, a warrant was issued for Wallace's arrest when he failed to turn up for a bail hearing. ... The Walkmen are set to release the follow-up to 2004's indie-riffic Bows + Arrows with A Hundred Miles Off on May 23. In addition to the 12-track disc, the band also recently re-recorded Harry Nilsson's 1974 collaboration album with John Lennon, Pussy Cats; the new version, Pussy Cats Starring the Walkmen, is due later this year. The band is scheduled to follow up their Coachella appearance with a full-blown U.S. tour. ...

To My Surprise, the side project of Slipknot percussionist Clown, have been booked for this year's South by Southwest Festival. The band will take the stage of Exodus in Austin, Texas, on March 16 before heading overseas to Europe for a spate of festival appearances. A North American tour is in the works for this fall. ... H.I.M. will soon shoot a video for the track "Killing Loneliness" with director Nathan Cox (Queens of the Stone Age, Staind). The clip will feature an appearance by noted tattoo artist Kat Von D, whose work has been featured on the reality series "Miami Ink." ... Haste the Day have grown by one. Stephen Keech was named the band's new singer, replacing Jimmy Ryan, who left the ranks three months ago for personal reasons. Keech was introduced as the group's newest member onstage in Denver Thursday night. Haste the Day are currently on the road with Bleeding Through and Every Time I Die. ... Bay Area rockers Stroke 9 will be hitting the road in late March, in support of their latest offering, Café Cuts. The 9 have lined up 18 gigs in all, beginning March 23 in San Juan Capistrano, California. The tour will hit Detroit, Baltimore, San Francisco, and Philadelphia before finishing up in Chicago May 21.

R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe, Bright Eyes and Public Enemy's Chuck D are among the artists slated to appear at "Bring 'Em Home Now," a March 20 concert to benefit the anti-war organizations Veterans for Peace and Iraq Veterans Against the War. The concert — to be held on the third anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq — will take place at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom and also feature a speech by activist Cindy Sheehan. Other artists scheduled to perform include Rufus Wainwright, Fischerspooner and Peaches. Tickets for the "Bring 'Em Home" benefit range from $28-$150, but if you can't afford it, you'll still be able to at least hear the show: Janeane Garofalo will broadcast her Air America Radio program, "The Majority Report," live from the Hammerstein. ...

Before kicking off their latest tour Friday in their hometown of Bakersfield, California, Korn will have a street in the city named after them. Mayor Harvey Hall will unveil Korn Row at a 3 p.m. ceremony. ... Gorillaz are upping their animated ante by launching a game for cell phones in April. The four bandmembers will be represented in a game whose graphics aim to blend old-school, arcade-style visuals with the band's already-established look and artwork. Two weeks after 29-year-old bodyguard Israel Ramirez was shot and killed on the New York set of a Busta Rhymes video, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly continues to express frustration at the lack of cooperation from witnesses in the investigation. In a press conference on Wednesday, Kelly accused Rhymes of withholding information about the murder of his bodyguard and said the failure of several potential witnesses to talk has hung up the investigation, according to The Associated Press. "I'd think he'd be knocking on the door," Kelly said of Rhymes. "If your employee's murdered in front of you, you think you might want to talk to the police." Witnesses may be called in front of a grand jury if they keep stonewalling, Kelly said, adding, "I find it quite disturbing. This individual was shot in front of a lot of people." A police spokesperson had no update on the investigation into the February 5 shooting, which occurred outside a crowded soundstage being used to film the video for the remix of Rhymes' single "Touch It." ...

It appears that the British tabloids might have jumped the gun by reporting that Coldplay are calling it quits. The whole thing started Tuesday night when frontman Chris Martin told the audience at the Brit Awards (sort of the U.K. equivalent of the People's Choice Awards), "It's going to be a few years before you see us again ... People are fed up with us — and so are we." Most of the British press took this to mean that the band was actually splitting up, and they reported thusly, sending Coldplay fans worldwide into a tizzy. But according to the band's label, Capitol Records, the reports are not true. "Coldplay are not quitting," read a statement by the label. "They are on the road until July, when their 16-month X&Y world tour ends in Japan. They will then continue working on new material." ... Speaking of the Brit Awards, Kaiser Chiefs and crooner James Blunt helped Coldplay take home the major prizes. Former British Army captain Blunt won Best British Male and Best Pop Act for his debut, Back to Bedlam, the bestselling album in Britain last year. The Kaiser Chiefs snagged Best British Group, Best British Rock Act and Best British Live Act. Coldplay won Best British Single for "Speed of Sound" and Best Album for X&Y. Madonna won Best International Female and Green Day got the Best International Group and Best International Album for American Idiot, while Kanye West won Best International Male. The show featured performances from Prince, Coldplay, Gorillaz and West. ... A spokesperson for Madonna said Thursday (February 16) that the singer has received recent treatment for a hernia, but that she's doing "absolutely fine." According to Reuters, the spokesperson said Madonna "had a minor procedure for a hernia," but wouldn't elaborate on when the operation took place or how serious the condition was. ...

According to a post on Metallica's Web site, the band has recruited Rick Rubin (Slayer, Jay-Z, Red Hot Chili Peppers) to produce its forthcoming studio LP. The news is accompanied on the site by several pictures of Metallica in the studio with a shoeless Rubin. ... How would you like to spend an hour in the studio with Snoop Dogg? On Wednesday an appeals court refused to reinstate an order giving Michael Jackson sole custody of his two children with ex-wife Debbie Rowe. According to a Reuters report, the court ruled that a judge did not properly handle the proceedings in a case in which Rowe signed away her parental rights in 2001 to Jackson's two oldest children, Michael Jr. and Paris. Rowe convinced a Los Angeles Superior Court judge to overturn the child-custody agreement in 2004 on legal grounds, citing accusations of child molestation against Jackson and his association with the Nation of Islam, whose members briefly provided security for the singer during last year's trial. ... Maureen Yancey — the mother of late hip-hop producer Jay Dee, who took care of him during his lengthy battle with lupus — has asked that any donations intended for the family be sent to a fund that has been set up in her name. Presley's mother, Priscilla, first hubby Danny Keough and their two children — daughter Riley and son Benjamin — were all included in the intimate ceremony. ... Nicky Hilton is debuting the fall/winter season of her clothing line during the Atlanta Women & Children's Market and the Atlanta International Bride & Special Occasion Market. Jessica Simpson's boots aren't just made for walking — they're made for selling, too. The singer showed off her spring footwear line Saturday at Las Vegas' World Show Association convention, where her line was one of 6,000 brands exhibited. Simpson also models her line in an upcoming ad campaign shot by Wayne Maser and debuting in March issues of women's and entertainment magazines. ...

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are also modeling for a spring campaign, but not for one of their own brands. The twins have partnered with Badgley Mischka and will star in ads with a "modern-day Cinderella" theme shot by Gilles Bensimon. The ads are set to debut in April issues of fashion magazines. Along with the exposure that came with opening for Weezer and the Foo Fighters this fall, the Kaiser Chiefs gained a friend in Dave Grohl, who apparently spent more time in the British rockers' dressing room than his own.

"People say, 'Dave Grohl, really nice guy,' but he genuinely is the nicest guy I've met in a long time," Kaiser frontman Ricky Wilson said via cell phone from somewhere near Champaign, Illinois. "The other night I'd gone to bed, but Nick [Baines, keyboardist] and Simon [Rix, bassist] were going to a pub across the road from the venue and it was after the Foo Fighters had played and you can imagine the pub near the venue is just full of people at the end of show, right? And Dave Grohl goes with them and just walks up and has a drink. And then apparently there were these two acoustic guitar guys and Dave did 'Everlong' with one of the guys, and it's like the best moment of the guy's life. And then Nick, Simon and Dave played 'I Predict a Riot' in this bar. Yeah, that was the wrong night to take an early night."

Maybe so, but cut Wilson a little slack. Along with touring, he's been working overtime, writing new Kaiser Chiefs songs, overseeing a DVD and conceptualizing the band's new video, for the third and final Employment single, "Modern Way."

"[The video is] about this guy that I saw in Covent Garden in London and he just did this trick with a tennis ball and all it is is like balancing on his head," Wilson explained. "And I thought, wouldn't it be great if he keeps doing it and he keeps getting better at it until he's the best he can possibly be? And then he gets noticed and goes from the streets to playing at a cabaret club and then he gets on TV and then he gets his own show on TV and then at the end we're playing on his show."

After pitching his idea to director Scott Lyon (Franz Ferdinand), Wilson tracked down the real tennis-ball balancer to play himself. "And the irony is it might end up that people start going down to his place to see him 'cause he's in the video and he might become famous," Wilson said. "You never know."

The fictional story of the video is actually meant to mirror the Kaiser Chiefs' own history, which inspired "Modern Way."

"It's about struggling, when you know you're doing what you need to be doing and the fact that people are just ignoring you, and the only thing you can do is just keep going and not worry about record companies," Wilson explained. "The way we did it we just built up a big fanbase in the U.K. doing gigs and eventually the record companies, who all turned us down, had to notice. And now there's a lot of regret going around England, as far as I know, for passing on the Kaiser Chiefs, which makes me quite happy.

"We like writing songs that feel some kind of anger," he continued. "A lot of people write about their girlfriends or people that want to be their girlfriends and stuff like that, but I find it all a bit mushy. You've gotta throw in a little song on the album just to keep your girlfriend happy, but apart from that ..."

Along with being released to video outlets, the "Modern Way" clip will appear on the Kaiser Chiefs' DVD, "Enjoyment," due at the end of November.

"It's basically just a load of weirdness, really," Wilson said. "People bring out live DVDs and it's a bit boring no matter how exciting the band is, so we wanted to show some live stuff, 'cause we're a good live band, and the rest of it's made up of like silly homemade movies."

British comedian Bill Nighy ("Love Actually") narrates the DVD, but the Kaiser Chiefs are the true stars. "We're all quite funny people," Wilson said. "It's the only way you can carry on in this business, 'cause it is the most ridiculous thing in the world."

The band also recently recorded four new tracks, which will be released as B-sides on the U.K. single for "Modern Way," and is preparing for a January return to the studio for album number two.

So will new friend Dave Grohl be a guest drummer?

"That might upset Nick too much, but I wouldn't mind if he sang," Wilson said.

Foo Fighters/ Weezer Tour Confirmed — But The Suspense Continues ...

We've got the wheres, but they still won't say when.

It was probably the worst-kept secret in the history of rock-and-roll touring, but after months of speculation, it has been confirmed that the Foo Fighters and Weezer will join forces on a co-headlining arena tour starting in early September.

As recently as Tuesday, management reps for both acts were playing coy with info on the tour (see "Where Will The Foo Fighters/ Weezer Tour Play? Good Question"), acknowledging that it probably would happen, but withholding somewhat important details like actual dates, cities and venues. On Friday (July 15), 23 cities that the tour will hit were announced — but nothing else.

And you thought "Trapped in the Closet" was suspenseful.

Fans and the media weren't the only ones who seemed to be in the dark about the whole thing. When MTV News spoke with members of the Foos during last month's "24 Hours of Foo" special on MTV2 (see "Tireless Dave Grohl Screams Twice As Hard On Double LP"), they were equally excited — and mystified — by the idea of touring with the Weez.

"The next year for this band is going to be packed with touring — we're going to be doing stuff back-to-back. But we're really excited about touring with Weezer," drummer Taylor Hawkins said. "Nothing's in concrete yet, but we know when and where we're going to do it."

"I hope it's confirmed. We keep talking about it," joked guitarist Chris Shiflett. "It'd be great. I'll beg if I have to: Please tour with us, Weezer!"

Well, Shiflett can quit groveling, because although Friday's announcement is not a definitive tour itinerary, it is at least a start.

The cities, in the order they're listed in the press release, are as follows: Atlanta; Sunrise, Florida; Tampa, Florida; Houston; Austin, Texas; Dallas; San Diego; Phoenix; Denver; Minneapolis; Chicago; Champaign, Illinois; Grand Rapids, Michigan; Detroit; Cleveland; Columbus, Ohio; Baltimore; Worcester, Massachusetts; New York; Philadelphia; Fresno, California; Seattle and Portland, Oregon.

More cities are expected to be announced in the coming weeks, as well as venues, ticket prices — and hey, maybe some dates! The Kaiser Chiefs have already been confirmed as the openers on one leg of the tour, from September 29 to October 11.

According to management for both bands, the Foo/ Weez co-headlining tour will run until late October.

Thanks to the success of their single "I Predict a Riot," the Kaiser Chiefs escaped the drudgery of life in Leeds, England, not so long ago. But their next video revisits the time when their dreams of world travel were only that — dreams.

"Oh My God" (which was actually the first video the band ever shot, but is just now hitting the U.S.), takes the Chiefs on an imaginary whirlwind tour of far-off destinations, although the guys claim — facetiously, perhaps — that it was quite real.

"It took three years to film the entire thing!" lead singer Ricky Wilson insisted. "And you know, it's kind of our opus."

To match the verses about the emptiness of spending too much time going nowhere, the bandmembers play at being bored workers in a warehouse of toy instruments. But by each chorus, in which Wilson sings the hook, "Oh my God, I can't believe it/ I've never been this far away from home," they're magically zapped to a different exotic locale: an iceberg in the middle of what could be the Artic, a harem in the middle of the Arabian desert, a sophisticated Parisian-style apartment and an Asian temple on a treacherous mountaintop.

"We go around the world and visit all exciting places, like the snow," Wilson explained.

"The snow — which is a place?" drummer Nick Hodgson asked.

"And the heat," Wilson continued.

" 'The heat' — which is another place?" Hodgson tried again.

"I said, 'I'm not making a video unless I get to go to Morocco,' " Wilson started again, ignoring the comment.

"They said they could have done it in one building and just built the sets," Hodgson said. "But we said, 'No way, Jose,' because his name was Jose."

Actually, the band did film the clip in a studio in North London last summer — and with the limited level of special effects used, obviously so. Despite the fact that the Ker-Chiefs didn't get their travel wishes granted back then, the band was just happy to have fun with all of the wardrobe changes — which included brown worker jumpsuits, white snowsuits, white thobes and all-black suits, with some stripes for Paris scenes.

"We get to dress up like idiots, which is probably what we do best," Wilson said.

The band will have the opportunity to do all that and more when they join the Foo Fighters and Weezer for their North American tour late in September. Dates are expected to be announced soon.

50 Cent Drops Off Live 8 Bill — But Destiny's Child And Linkin Park Sign On

There will be no live rendition of "Candy Shop" during the Philadelphia edition of Bob Geldof's Live 8, a follow-up to 1985's Live Aid concert, which raised millions for famine relief efforts in Africa.

The thousands expected to flock to the City of Brotherly Love and congregate at the foot of the Philadelphia Museum of Art in little more than two weeks' time won't even be hearing "Just a Lil' Bit." That's because 50 Cent has removed his name from the concert's bill, just as more artists have been added.

A publicist for 50 Cent told The Associated Press on Wednesday that a scheduling conflict linked to the filming of the rapper's forthcoming film, "Get Rich or Die Tryin'," which is shooting in Toronto, has forced the New York native to pull out of the show.

However, organizers announced on Thursday (June 16) that Linkin Park and soon-to-split Destiny's Child (see "Destiny's Child Announce Split") have been added to the Philadelphia concert, which also features Will Smith, Bon Jovi, Jay-Z, Kaiser Chiefs, Maroon 5, P. Diddy, Rob Thomas, Sarah McLachlan and the Dave Matthews Band, among others.

Geldof has organized five simultaneous Live 8 concerts for July 2, as a means to raise awareness about African debt relief (see "50 Cent, Jay-Z, Mariah, U2, Coldplay On Board For Massive Live Aid Sequel"); the events precede the two-day G8 summit, which is set to begin on July 6 in Gleneagles, Scotland.

While the G-Unit general is off the Live 8 bill, several artists have just been added. Organizers announced Wednesday that African musicians would stage a concert to coincide with the other Live 8 events, which had been criticized by Blur frontman Damon Albarn as being "too damn Anglo-Saxon" (see "Pink Floyd Get Roger Waters For Live 8; Green Day In For Berlin Show").

According to Reuters, Peter Gabriel is spearheading the show, dubbed Africa Calling. The concert will be held in Southwest England, at the Eden Project in Cornwall. Senegalese star Youssou N'Dour, West African singer/songwriter Angelique Kidjo, Somalia-born vocalist Maryam Mursal and Salif Keita, called the "golden voice of Africa," are all scheduled to perform.

And a seventh Live 8 show has been organized for July 6 in Edinburgh, Scotland; the concert will feature Annie Lennox, Snow Patrol, Dido and the Proclaimers. Live 8's organizers announced Thursday that they'd be expanding the scope of the series to include gigs in Tokyo, Toronto and Johannesburg, South Africa, according to Reuters. An official announcement — with lineups — is expected Friday.

Actress Renée Zellweger married country singer Kenny Chesney on Monday (May 9) in a surprise ceremony on the island of St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands, her publicist announced in a statement. Michael Jackson's defense started off strong last week, presenting testimony from former sleepover pals like Wade Robson and Brett Barnes, who said nothing happened when they shared the singer's bed. But on Monday, the defense turned to trying to debunk the testimony of those who had claimed otherwise. They started with former Neverland maid Adrian McManus, who had testified for the prosecution that she had seen Jackson acting inappropriately with various boys. Their strategy? Pit one housekeeper against another. (inspired by her song "Long Way to Go," about interracial relationships), and is available exclusively via Marie Claire magazine for $14.95, with all proceeds going to the relief group Duang Prateep Foundation. Stefani models the shirt on the June cover and says that the phrase on the shirt is a good message for the world. The song was actually the band's first single in the U.K., as a demo on indie label Drowned in Sound in May of last year. Kaiser Chiefs re-recorded "Oh My God" for their debut album, Employment, with Stephen Street as producer. "The new version is terrific," singer Ricky Wilson told MTV News. The son of former Roxy Music singer Bryan Ferry, 22-year-old Otis Ferry, was arrested on Friday for lunging at British Prime Minster Tony Blair, according to an Associated Press report. Foxy Brown, who is facing misdemeanor charges for allegedly beating a nail salon employee, has decided against a plea deal that would've kept her from serving time, according to ABC news. If she'd taken it, Foxy would've had to admit to the assault, but the rapper refuses to admit to any crime. Judge Melissa Jackson scheduled Foxy's next court date for July 28. "I have confidence in the criminal justice system," Foxy said as she exited Manhattan Criminal Court on Friday. "I am confident that I will be exonerated." ...

Kaiser Chiefs' Peanut Wants More Groupies On U.S. Tour

Pogoing U.K. band to play Lollapalooza, promote Employment this summer.

The Kaiser Chiefs — probably the only band in the world to have both a hit single and a dude named Peanut on keyboards — are capitalizing on their recent U.S. success by hitting the road for a string of North American dates.

The tour starts May 24 in Philadelphia and includes a slot on the newly resurrected Lollapalooza in Chicago on July 23 (see "Lollapalooza Scaled Back To Two-Day Chicago Festival").

But while their debut album, Employment, opened strong in the U.S. (#86 on the Billboard albums chart), and the U.K. press has drooled over them for months, the Chiefs are troubled by a lack of groupies.

"Girls come up to us and say, 'We really liked your set,' and then we just go home," said Peanut, a.k.a. Nick Baines. "The tales of excess don't really exist yet."

"Sometimes you might see the odd banner in the crowd that says, like, 'Nice eyes!' " frontman Ricky Wilson added. "And when we get back downstairs after a gig in our dressing room, we'll crack open a bottle of beer and talk about someone in the audience we saw and say, 'Didn't she have nice hair?' "

It's not like the Chiefs aren't trying to wow their fans, female or otherwise. They've already become known for raucous, pogoing live sets, the kind captured in the video for their first U.S. single, "I Predict a Riot" (see "Kaiser Chiefs 'Predict A Riot,' Music Press Predicts Franz Ferdinand-Like Success"). Now they're aiming all that synth-fueled energy squarely at North American audiences.

"Oh, it's madness. Not Madness the band," Wilson laughed. "It's mental. When you see us live, we're very energetic. We're more energetic than people expect we're going to be. If I'm not aching at the end of the gig, it hasn't been a good one. And if I haven't spent half the time down with the crowd, then it hasn't been a good one, either. I like to go and visit them because they're there to see me, [so] I should go and see them."

The Chiefs are still deciding which track from Employment will be their next U.S. single. In the U.K., the honor went to "Oh My God," and there's a fairly good chance that'll be the case in the States as well. Still, the Chiefs are being extra careful about their selection; the second single could effectively make or break the band here.

The group isn't feeling any such heat in its homeland. The Chiefs sold out their April tour through Great Britain — an impressive 30,000 total tickets.

"So instead of going around the [U.S.], we're going to ship everyone who wants to come to our gigs in the U.K. out to Madison Square Garden," Wilson joked. "We'll ship them all out and play one gig, then take a few days off."

Stand back — there's about to be a "Girlfight" and a "Riot" among the artists included in this week's new releases.

R&B singer Brooke Valentine, featured on MTV's "You Hear It First," has been building major buzz around the release of her album Chain Letter, with the help of debut single "Girlfight." Lil Jon and Big Boi have her back on the song, while the late Ol' Dirty Bastard lent a hand to another track, "Blah, Blah, Blah."

Indie-pop up-and-comers the Kaiser Chiefs are ready to do battle with their LP Employment and its single "I Predict a Riot." The debut album from the Leeds, England-bred quintet combines classic Britpop sounds with dance-rock and undeniably catchy hooks.

The singles compilation Now 18 will also put up a strong fight this week. The album includes Gwen Stefani's "What You Waiting For?," Lindsay Lohan's "Rumors," Destiny's Child's "Soldier," Ashanti's "Only U," Omarion's "O," John Legend's "Used to Love U" and Good Charlotte's "I Just Wanna Live," among others.

Their last studio album was out in 2001, but Sweden's the Soundtrack of Our Lives are back this week with Origin Vol. 1. Trivium represent for metal with their second album, Ascendancy.
