Jimmie's Chicken Shack will kick off a tour with 311 on Monday in North Carolina, and this weekend the merry "Do Right" funksters will be in Hollywood to preside over a regional contest in the fifth annual Bandemonium battle of the bands.
The Shack, which has just issued a new single, "Trash," will headline a concert on February 21 at The Roxy, and the two opening acts will actually be competing for a spot in the Bandemonium finals, which will be held in Panama City, Florida during Spring Break.
The two area bands vying for the regional prize (and the $500 prize money) are Jamestowne from Sherman Oaks, California, and Haggis from Phoenix, with the winner to be announced immediately following Jimmie's Chicken Shack's set.
Since releasing its 1997 major-label debut, "Pushing the Salmanilla Envelope," Jimmie's Chicken Shack has toured incessantly, opening for the likes of Everclear, Creed, Jewel, and Luscious Jackson, among others.
MTV News caught up with Jimmie's
Chicken Shack shortly after the release of its newest effort, "Bring Your Own Stereo," and the band talked about one of its favorite opening gigs.
"We went on a Jackyl tour," explained frontman Jimi Haha, "and it was the first tour we did.
After helping rock in the New Year with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, 311 has announced dates for an extended North American outing scheduled to start on February 21 in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The band, which is currently in Japan for a brief promotional jaunt, has tapped Jimmie's Chicken Shack to serve as the opening act for the upcoming tour, and 311 plans to warm up for the U.S. trek with a few dates in late January and early February.
On its way back from Japan, 311 will stop over in Hawaii for a concert at the World Café in Honolulu on January 27. The Omaha, Nebraska rockers will then take a few days off (to recover from jet lag, no doubt) before playing a one-off gig at L.A.'s House Of Blues on January 30.
311 has also signed on to serve as the featured musical performers at the 2000 Sega National Finals Competition being held at the Gameworks center in Las Vegas on February 4.
In addition to the recent tour announcement, 311 just completed a video
for "Flowing," the second single from the band's new album, "Soundsystem," which 311 filmed last month with director Marcos Siega.
Also joining the 311-Jimmie's Chicken Shack tour for one date will be Incubus, who will perform at the February 28 show in Winston-Salem, North Carolina -- the day after Incubus finishes its run on the 2000 Sno-Core Tour in Atlanta.
Dates for 311's U.S. tour:

2/21 - Raleigh, NC @ The Ritz
2/23 - Orlando, FL @ House of Blues
2/25 - Jacksonville, FL @ Club Five
2/27 - Charleston, SC @ Music Farm
2/28 - Winston-Salem, NC @ LJVM Coliseum (w/ Incubus)
3/1 - Scranton, PA @ Cultural Center
3/2 - Poughkeepsie, NY @ Mid-Hudson Civic Center
3/3 - New York, NY @ Roseland Ballroom
3/4 - Portland, ME @ State Theatre
3/5 - Syracuse, NY @ Syracuse University Goldstein Auditorium
3/7 - Henrietta-Rochester, NY @ Dome Arena
3/8 - Dayton, OH @ Hara Arena
3/9 - Auburn, AL @ Auburn

The Shack is back.
After selling over 200,000 copies of its last record, 1997's fowl-titled "Pushing the Salmanilla Envelope," the Annapolis, Maryland-based Jimmie's Chicken Shack returns to stores this week with its second major-label album, "Bring Your Own Stereo."
With such admitted influences as Bad Brains and Fugazi, one might expect the Shack's new album to be loaded with the same sort of pissed-off rock that has fueled the likes of Limp Bizkit and Korn.
But as band frontman Jimi Haha recently told MTV News, most of the songs off the new album -- including the light-hearted first single, "Do Right" -- tend to deal with, of all things, "punk love."
"We probably all have pretty positive attitudes... occasionally," Haha said,
"I think that's also what our shows are equated with," he continued. "Some people would see our shows and think it's nothing but 'Grrr!' We're like, 'Nah, it's actually 'Ahhh!' Everybody was raging, but raging with fun and love instead if like, 'I hate things,' or 'I'm pissed at things.' It's more like, 'Things blow, but woo-hoo [anyway].'" [RealVideo]
The video for "Do Right" has just been certified as a "Buzzworthy" clip. You can catch Jimmie's Chicken Shack on the road with Fuel for the next few weeks, beginning on August 24 at the Bottle and Cork in Dewey Beach, Delaware.

The new Claire Danes film, "Brokedown Palace," opened over the weekend to tepid reviews and slow ticket sales, earning less than four million dollars at the box office.
With a first weekend like that, the movie would seem to need all the help it can get. However, according to the film's producers, one source they didn't need help from is rap/rock hybrid Jimmie's Chicken Shack.
The band was actually approached to record a cover of the Grateful Dead's "Brokedown Palace" for the film (which takes its title from the same), but Shack frontman Jimi HaHa tells the MTV Radio Network that the band did a "drum and bass/reggae spitball of punk mess" version of the tune, which got rejected for the soundtrack.
"We recorded it, and it was just too much damn fun for the movie," HaHa said.
In happier news for Chicken Shack fans, the band are preparing to release their next album, "Bring Your Own Stereo" on August 24. The video for the first single, "Do Right," has already been deemed "Buzzworthy" by MTV.
