After wrapping a string of appearances at various radio-sponsored shows across the country, the Fountains of Wayne will strike on its own for a summer tour beginning on July 2 in Ortley Beach, New Jersey.
The Fountains of Wayne will be joined by Imperial Teen and newcomers Owsley for the month long, 17-date tour. When the tour winds down, The Fountains will then head over to Japan in order to take part in this year's Fuji Festival, slated for August 1.
Playing in front of the kind of crowd that the Fuji rock festival annually draws will be nothing new for the Fountains, as the band opened for the Smashing Pumpkins back on its ill-fated tour in 1996. And as the band's Chris Collingwood recently told MTV, the group actually feels more comfortable at the large shows than the kind of club gigs the Fountains will hit on its upcoming tour.
"I don't think that either one of is particularly uncomfortable playing in front of giant crowds,"
Collingwood said. "We kind of got thrown into that pretty early on the Smashing Pumpkins tour."
"And in a way," he continued, "it's kind of less intimidating than playing in front of small audiences, because it's just this blanket of people, and you really can't see any of their faces. They can't see you either, to be honest. There's something oddly more anonymous about that than playing in a small club. It's a little bit easier."

Marilyn Manson and Hole are preparing to head out on the road together at the end of this month, and in the spirit of cooperation the two bands have agreed to record a cover tune from one another's catalog and release the tunes on a special disc.
Manson told MTV that he's planning to cover "Teenage Whore" from Hole's 1991 debut, "Pretty on the Inside," and that Courtney and company were considering a remake of his song, "Deformagraphy."
No word yet on when Manson and Hole intend on recording or releasing their respective tracks, but we'll keep you posted. Meanwhile, Imperial Teen, the band led by former Faith No More keyboardist Roddy Bottum, has just landed a highly-coveted opening spot on the Hole/Marilyn Manson tour.
The San Francisco-based outfit will take over from the previously announced openers, Monster Magnet, starting with the April 6 show at East Rutherford, New Jersey, and continuing until the tour's end on April 27 in Minneapolis. Some unresolved scheduling conflicts
will keep Monster Magnet from honoring its original commitment to play-out the entire tour.
In a statement to friends about joining Hole and Manson on the road, Bottum said that he dug "the Marilyn Manson show, it's gonna be great to watch -- and Hole are old friends, so it's gonna be like going to the movies with a dysfunctional family. Exciting."
Here's when you can catch Imperial Teen opening for Hole and Marilyn Manson:

4/6 - East Rutherford, NJ @ Continental Airline Arena
4/7 - Uniondale, NY @ Nassau Coliseum
4/9 - Worcester, MA @ Centrum
4/10 - New Haven, CT @ New Haven Coliseum
4/11 - Buffalo, NY @ Marine Midland Arena
4/13 - Cleveland, OH @ CSU Convocation Center
4/15 - Auburn Hills, MI @ Palace of Auburn Hills
4/16 - Pittsburgh, PA @ Pittsburgh Civic Arena
4/17 - Fort Wayne, IN @ Allen County Memorial Coliseum
4/20 - Rosemont, IL @ Rosemont Horizon
4/21 - Grand Rapids, MI @ Van Andel Arena
4/22 - Indianapolis,
