The Australian quartet has decided to call it quits after 15 years, and played their last show Sunday, January 11, in Melbourne, Australia, although it wasn't originally planned that way. They were supposed to have packed it in a week earlier, but singer Dave Faulkner's laryngitis caused them to cancel the concert previously scheduled last November and tack it on as a make-up date to the end of their final road trip, dubbed the "Split the Dummy" tour. The cancellation was the first date -- and now the last -- the Hoodoo Gurus had ever missed.

The band formed in 1981 and released seven studio albums together internationally, including their last new effort, "Blue Cave," released on Zoo in 1996. They were set to tour the States to support that album but they were unexpectedly dropped from the troubled label. The band never fully recovered from that setback. The group made the announcement in early '97 that they'd be breaking up at the end of the year and they launched into a long goodbye that included the release of a double compilation album last fall, a collection of previous hits and misses plus five new songs.
