Three weeks running and the King won't relinquish his throne.

Elvis Presley's Elvis 30 #1 Hits will rule the Billboard albums chart for the third straight week, according to SoundScan figures released Wednesday (October 16). Last week's sales total of more than 205,000 copies pushed Presley's best-of collection past the 1 million mark.

Elvis remains king despite an impressive chart debut from Bon Jovi, whose eighth album, Bounce, will take the #2 position. Thanks to first single "Everyday" and a slew of media moments, including a special Times Square concert to kick off the 2002 NFL season, the New Jersey rockers moved more than 159,000 copies of their follow-up to 2000's Crush.

The Rolling Stones' greatest-hits amalgam, Forty Licks, will drop a spot to #3, selling more than 146,000 last week; while Avril Lavigne's Let Go will re-enter the top five by moving up two places to #4 and selling more than 112,000.

Tom Petty's 13th album of his 26-year career (and 10th with his band the Heartbreakers), The Last DJ, will land at #9 after its first week in stores. Met with favorable reviews, the album, much of which lambastes the music industry, sold more than 74,000 copies, ironically on the back of airplay for the album's title song, a swipe at radio's rampant consolidation.

Elsewhere in next week's top 10, Nelly's Nellyville will move three places ahead to #5; the Dixie Chicks' Home will drop a notch to #6; Eminem's The Eminem Show will step up two spots to #7; Xzibit's Man Vs. Machine will lose five places to land at #8; and American Idol - Greatest Moments, will suffer the greatest setback in the upper echelon, falling six spots to #10.

"The Red" looks to put Chicago rock trio Chevelle in the black. Their second album — and first for a major label — Wonder What's Next, sold more than 60,000 copies out of the gate to occupy the #14 spot.

Jurassic 5 may finally lose the qualifier "underground hip-hop," as the sextet's second album, Power in Numbers, will come in at #15. The follow-up to 2000's Quality Control gave close chase to Chevelle but ultimately fell short by a little more than 1,000 copies.

The greatest gainer on next week's chart, Josh Groban, was reintroduced to "The Oprah Winfrey Show" viewers when the episode in which he was featured was rebroadcast Friday (October 11). And just as it did when it premiered in July, Groban's episode brought a retail goose to his self-titled debut. The album more than doubled its weekly sales, from 21,000 to 45,000, while it will advance 29 spots to #19.

The second coming of J.Lo, Jennifer Love Hewitt, will assume the #37 spot with her third album, Bare Naked. Coinciding with the screening of "The Tuxedo," her feature film co-starring Jackie Chan, and a revealing Rolling Stone cover story, the former "Party of Five" actress moved more than 27,000 copies.

Other notable debuts on next week's chart include Australian six-string slinger Keith Urban's Golden Road at #11; R&B singer Heather Headley's This Is Who I Am at #38; Rasta-friendly rap-rockers Kottonmouth Kings' fifth album, Rollin' Stoned, at #51; Ben Folds' collection of concert cuts Ben Folds Live at #60; Gov't Mule's The Deep End Vol. 2, the jam band's second LP with guest bassists filling in for the late Allen Woody, at #117; Sinead O'Connor's Sean-Nos Nua at #139; and Sammy Hagar and the Waboritas' Not 4 Sale at #181.

Two words: Bon Jovi.

Fine, here are a few more: The Jersey boys' Bounce, featuring the energetic single "Everyday" and "Undivided," the band's response to the events of September 11 hits shelves this week.

We've all been subjected to the beginnings of Christina's Stripped, but Jennifer Love Hewitt does Aguilera one better this week as she gets Barenaked for fans alongside Cali rap sextet Jurassic 5's latest LP, Power in Numbers, which includes the ubiquitous single "What's Golden" and a guest spot by Nelly Furtado on "Thin Line."

Fresh off their last full-length album, Murray Street, Sonic Youth return with I.C.P & the Ex for an eight-song EP for the In the Fishtank series, which has previously included June of 44, Low, Dirty Three and Tortoise. Meanwhile, J Mascis and the Fog get Free So Free and Ben Folds releases a live album from his 2002 solo tour.

Finally, Boy George plays DJ and serves up his favorite club mix on A Night Out With Boy George. And, really, who could resist that?

Funny fluff and a shocking documentary about the rough and tough are hitting
theaters this weekend.

Reese Witherspoon's "Sweet Home Alabama" and the Jackie Chan/ Jennifer Love
Hewitt action/comedy team-up "The Tuxedo" will open nationwide, while the
decidedly more serious "Biggie and Tupac," a controversial documentary that
takes a look at the unsolved murders of both rappers, will open in select
cities.

"Sweet Home Alabama" is a light-hearted romantic comedy that centers on the
"Legally Blonde" star as an Alabama gal who left behind her family and
friends for a booming fashion career in New York City, where she gets
engaged to a fabulous guy played by Patrick Dempsey ("Scream 3"). There's
just one problem: Before she can get married, she'll have to finish getting
divorced from the stubborn Alabama husband (Josh Lucas of "A Beautiful Mind")
she left behind. (Click for photos from "Sweet Home Alabama.")

Jennifer Love Hewitt, who recently took some time away from Hollywood to complete a new album (see "Jennifer Love Hewitt Makes Rock Record, But Won't Be Doing Weird Hair Streaks"), gets a chance to strut her action/comedy stuff in a return to the big
screen. "The Tuxedo" features martial-arts film legend Jackie Chan as a taxi
driver who becomes a chauffeur for a secret agent. When that agent is wounded,
Chan bumbles his way into impersonating him and following up on his latest
case, aided by a high-tech, super-powered tux and a brainy but butt-kicking agent
played by Hewitt.

In sharp contrast to the light tone of each of those comedies, "Biggie and
Tupac" is a sober and often complex examination of the various facets of the
ongoing investigation and speculation about the murders of the two iconic
rappers.

"Biggie and Tupac" is comprised of a jailhouse interview with Suge Knight
as well as chats with Biggie's mother and former LAPD homicide detective
Russell Poole, whose Suge Knight-centered murder theory was also the basis
of Rolling Stone writer Randall Sullivan's book "LAbyrinth." The film was put together by British filmmaker Nick Broomfield.

Broomfield, the man behind the "Kurt and Courtney" documentary that
suggested that Courtney Love conspired to murder her late husband Kurt Cobain, conducts
all of the interviews himself. He finished much of the film before the L.A.
Times published allegations implicating Biggie in Tupac's murder (see ).

"Biggie and Tupac" will open in select cities over the weekend, as will
"Moonlight Mile," a drama starring Dustin Hoffman ("Rain Man"), Susan
Sarandon ("The Banger Sisters") and Jake Gyllenhaal ("The Good Girl").

This time around Jennifer Love Hewitt really is entering the music business with a bang.

When she released her debut album, Let's Go Bang, in 1995, that was hardly the case. The album tanked, as did the television star's self-titled follow-up the following year.

Six years later, however, Hewitt is quick to point out that "everything is different" — and she's not just talking about the huge amount of buzz (a Rolling Stone cover, "TRL" exposure) surrounding the October 8 release of Bare Naked.

"When I did my other records I was never really asked to write," the brunette bombshell explained. "The songs were kind of handed to me the day I would walk into the studio. The record companies ... decided what kind of imaging they thought would be best for me and things like that."

Although her new label initiated Hewitt's second run at a music career, she is clearly in charge.

"Jive came to me and said, 'You know, we'd really, really like to make music with you. What is it that you want to do?,' '" Hewitt recalled. "And I said, 'Well, I don't know exactly. I have this vision of what I've always wanted to do, but I'm not sure how to execute it yet.' And they said, 'Well then fine, when you figure it out let us know and we're going to give you all the time you need to do it. And, you know, if you want to write on it, write on it.' And I thought I would probably write two or three songs and now I've ended up writing all but two or three [that appear on the album]."

For her second run, Hewitt wanted to step away from pop music and record an album better tagged with a "singer/songwriter" or "rock and roll" label. To accomplish it, she knew she needed to align herself with the right person. So one day Hewitt literally knocked on "Bitch" singer Meredith Brooks' door.

"This strange girl that she had never met was like, 'I have this dream and this is what I want to do and I need you to help me make it happen if you possibly can or are interested,' " Hewitt said. "And from that day on, she was 100 percent dedicated to making sure that I got to have my vision of what I wanted my record to be. And that has always meant so much to me and will always mean the world."

Together, Hewitt and Brooks penned an album from the "not a girl, not yet a woman" viewpoint. Their lyrics, while not bubblegum obvious, explore the emotions of a singer who is still chasing her knight in shining armor, but at the same time is forced to face the realities of relationships and adult life in general.

"Meredith and I never knew what we were going to sit down and write about on any given day," Hewitt said. "It would just kind of come out of us, you know, eating a salad and drinking way too much coffee and being silly in the studio and kind of hanging out. Or I would come in that day upset about something, or having had a bad dream, and a song would come out of that."

"Bare Naked," the first single and the album's most revealing track, expresses the anxiety of feeling unsure of yourself (see "In Jennifer Love Hewitt's Latest Role She's 'Bare Naked' ").

"It's [about] the fact that I'm 23 and still trying to figure out who I'm going to be as a grown-up," Hewitt said. "And, you know, releasing this record was a big insecurity for me, because I wasn't sure how people were going to accept it."

"Can I Go Now" will be the album's second single, Hewitt revealed.

"Most people picture women as being the ones to cry and be sad at the end of a relationship, and this song is great because it's very empowering in the way that the woman is really kind of taking the main role in this relationship," she explained. "She's saying, 'I'm unhappy and there's no way I can make you happy, so can I go?' "

Hewitt expands on the same topic in "Rock the Roll," a tune built around the lyric, "You've got to know when to rock and when to roll."

"You've got to know when to rock the boat in a relationship or when to kind of roll with it in order to continue to be with the person that you care about," Hewitt said.

The song includes a line about being pushed to date a rock star, ironic now that Hewitt has been linked to singer/songwriter John Mayer.

"When people found out I was doing a rock record," she said, "I had all these funny people coming up to me and they were like, 'OK this is what you've got to do. You've got to get streaks in your hair that are a weird color. And you've got to wear this and you've got to do this and you've got to do that.' And they were all kind of kidding, but you know, half-serious at the same time. And one of the things that everyone said is that, 'You've got to date a really cool rock star.' "

Hewitt initially questioned the suggestion. "And they were like, 'You've got to date a bad boy. That'll be so good for the rock image.' And I was like, 'But then I'll be worried all the time about what he's doing and what's going on and all that stuff.' I thought that was a funny thing, so I wrote that in the song."

Before Bare Naked hits stores October 8, Hewitt will appear in theaters in "The Tuxedo" with Jackie Chan, opening September 27.

Although Hewitt has had more success as an actress, she described music as her first love.

"Music for me has always been something that has been directly connected to my heart," she said. "And when I get to sing a song I get to sort of release a big part of who I am. Acting is very much an important thing for me and I love doing it, but when I'm acting, I spend 14 hours a day and months at a time being someone else. And when I'm singing I just get to be me. And I think it's really important."

I know what Jennifer Love Hewitt did last summer.

She recorded her first album in six years. And like the scary movie that made her a big-screen starlet, the name is enough to draw you in.

BareNaked.

Don't read too much into the steamy title, though. It's a euphemism for being unsure of yourself, as Hewitt explains in the opening verse of her similarly named new single, "Bare Naked": "Do you ever have that dream where you're walking naked down the street and everyone just stares?"

"It is a song for every 14-year-old girl who starts school this year to know there is someone else in the world who is just as insecure, and it's me," Hewitt explained at Sunday's Teen Choice Awards (see "Nelly Outsurfs 'NSYNC, Ja Rule, Usher At Teen Choice Awards"). "I don't think kids think that we get insecure, 'cause we kind of have these amazing lives, but I'm 23 and I'm pretty much the same as them."

Hewitt, who performed "Bare Naked" at the awards show, wrote the song about her feelings on returning to the music industry after an unsuccessful run in the early '90s. "I'm sure there will be mixed views on that," Hewitt said. "But it was something I wanted to do."

Like she sings in the song's chorus, life is what you make it, so Hewitt is charging headfirst back into singing, which was the reason she came to Los Angeles in the first place.

For BareNaked, due September 17, Hewitt wrote the lyrics for every song, while producer Meredith Brooks, who had a hit with "Bitch" in 1997, wrote the music (see "Meredith Brooks Preps Album, Produces Jennifer Love Hewitt LP").

"I was a really big fan of her music, and she was sending out a song to
other artists, so I went to her house for an afternoon and we hit it off and
started writing," Hewitt said. A year later, "we ended up with the whole
album."

Musically, BareNaked is a hodgepodge of Hewitt's influences, which
range from Janis Joplin and Aretha Franklin to Norah Jones and John Mayer.

The former "Party of Five" star doesn't play any instruments on the record,
but she's learning guitar, which she may play on tour.

"If the record does well and kids want me to tour, I will absolutely love it
and be there 100 percent," Hewitt said of her fall plans. "But a good movie
is hard to pass up, so I will balance them both."

Hewitt will appear next in theaters with Jackie Chan in "The Tuxedo," which hits theaters September 27.

Before then she'll appear on the small screen, performing on "The Tonight
Show With Jay Leno" September 16 and presenting at the Latin Grammy Awards
on September 18.

Meredith Brooks, the most famous "Bitch" in music, is mounting a comeback — and working overtime to pull it off.

Brooks has spent more than two years writing and recording Bad Bad One, her third album and the follow-up to 1999's disappointing Deconstruction.

"I'm a blue-collar working musician, let me tell you," Brooks said last week at Clive Davis' Grammy Eve party (Click for photos from the event.). "I built a studio and learned ProTools and engineered and produced the whole thing."

Later this month, Brooks will release her new single, "Shine," which marks the return of co-songwriters David Darling and Shelly Peiken, who teamed with Brooks on her breakthrough single, 1997's "Bitch." Bad Bad One is due in May.

After her own album is released, Brooks will likely resurface in entertainment headlines later this year as the producer of Jennifer Love Hewitt's Jive Records debut.

"Everyone's going to be so surprised," Brooks said. "She's a great soul singer. I'm very excited about both records. I suggest you don't do two records at once, but I've made it through."

"I Still Know What You Did Last Summer" star Jennifer Love Hewitt will not only be acting in the upcoming teen scream picture, but she'll also be appearing on the soundtrack as well.
Hewitt's song, "How Do I Deal," will be the first single released from the album, which is due out on November 17. According to Hewitt, the idea of her contributing a track was that of the movie's producers, and the whole project, from recording the song to shooting the video, took only about two weeks.
While on the set of the video -- shot on Monday in Culver City, California -- Hewitt, told MTV News about how she actually started out as a singer, not as an actress.
"I've been singing since I was 6," Hewitt said,
The video is being directed by Joseph Kahn, who also shot one previously for her fellow "I Still Know" actress Brandy, in her duet with Monica for the song, "The Boy Is Mine." As for the track itself, the single is expected to hit radio sometime next week, with the movie to follow on November 13. The rest of the soundtrack includes songs by Swirl 360, Orgy, Bijou Phillips, Grant Lee Buffalo, and others.
