H-Town Lead Singer Dies

Conner's girlfriend Teshya Rae Weisent also killed, two of three suspects sought in connection with hit-and-run.
By Shaheem Reid

Keven A. Conner, better known to R&B fans as Dino, lead singer of the group H-Town, was killed in a car accident on Tuesday.

According to Houston police, Dino, 28, had just left a recording studio and was a passenger in a car being driven by his girlfriend, 22-year-old Teshya Rae Weisent. Their vehicle was struck by an SUV that ran a red light and both Dino and Weisant were killed.

Three people were in the SUV and all fled after the accident. One man, Juan Diaz, was apprehended, however, and faces felonious charges of failure to stop and render aid.

Originally signed to a recording contract by 2 Live Crew's Luther "Luke" Campbell, H-Town rose to prominence 10 years ago with their debut album, Fever for Da Flavor, which spawned their biggest hit, "Knockin' the Boots." In an interview with the Houston Chronicle, Shazam, Dino's twin brother and groupmate, said the trio had just finished an H-Town reunion album. Their last LP, Ladies Edition, was released in 1997.

H-Town To Join One Million Women In Philly

October 24 [16:00 EDT] -- H-Town are taking their new-found respect for women one step further as the Houston-based R&B outfit will turn up at this Saturday's Million Women March in Philadelphia.

As we reported last week, the group (twin brothers Dino and Shazam, and friend G.I.) originally broke through in 1992 in less than politically correct fashion. H-Town worked with 2 Live Crew mastermind Luther Campbell to score the hit "Knockin' Da Boots."

Since then, the group split from Campbell, found God, and printed an apology to "the women of the world" in their new album, "Ladies Edition, Woman's World."

Now, the organizers of this weekend's Million Women March say that the group will show their continued support for women's issues by performing at the event.

H-Town is also hoping to mount a tour in support of "Ladies Edition, Woman's World," but any such outing is still in the planning stages.

H-Town Give Shout Out To "Women Of The World"

October 15 [10:00 EDT] -- Houston-based R&B outfit H-Town are set to release their first album in five years at the end of this month, a time that also ushers in a very different frame of mind for the group.

Back in 1992, the group got its start working with the notorious Luther Campbell of 2 Live Crew Fame, and scored its breakthrough hit with "Knockin' Da Boots."

Now H-Town has parted ways with Luke, found God, and dedicated its new album, "Ladies Edition, Woman's World," to "the women of the world." The album even carries an apology in its liner notes to women everywhere for what H-Town calls its "past disrespectful ways."

"We're willing to take a stand as a group to show the ladies out there that there are some guys that respect women and want to take a stand and be on their side," H-Town's Shazam told MTV News. "That's basically how we came up with the name 'Ladies Edition' 'cause we wanted to dedicate this album to the ladies. We feel that we made some
mistakes in the past, with women, so we want to show the women that we got it right. Not only us... we representing for a lot of males. There's a lot of other males, there's a lot of men out there that are doing the right thing, so we wanted to let the world know that H-town, you know, we made mistakes in the past, and we just wanted to let the world know that we're sorry. We got it right, right now. Not only that, but we got it right with God too, mentally and spiritually with God. We just trying to be some better men this year."
