After being forced to cancel a few dates from his upcoming tour last week, Scott Weiland has selected a Los Angeles-based guitarist, Aaron Embry, to fill the position in his touring band left void by the departure of former Porno for Pyros guitarist Pete DiStefano.

According to the band's publicist, DiStefano, who worked on Weiland's album, "12 Bar Blues," actually bowed out of the band prior to Weiland's appearance on the "Late Show with David Letterman" last month.

With sufficient rehearsal time with the new guitarist under his belt (see "Weiland Cancels Dates For More Rehearsal Time"), Weiland plans to kick-off his tour on May 15 at the pre-WHFS festival show at the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C., along with Semisonic and Grant Lee Buffalo.

Scott Weiland, Wyclef Jean and Grant Lee Buffalo are among the acts scheduled for a Save Tibet Concert on May 9 in Atlanta. Promoters of the event have also said that Joan Osborne will perform, but spokespeople for the singer deny that she has signed on for the bill.

The show, sponsored by local radio station WNNX, will benefit the International Campaign for Tibet and grew out of an appearance that the Dalai Lama will make at Emory University the same day. The Dalai Lama has been invited to speak at the commemoration of the school's new Tibetan studies center -- believed to be the first of its kind in America.

Concert organizers hope to add one or two more acts to the line-up, and R.E.M. is said to top their current wish list. The band might be motivated to join the show by the prospect of an audience with the Dalai Lama, as the spiritual leader of Tibet has agreed to meet privately with the event's performers.

Tickets for the Save Tibet Concert go on sale
this Friday.

After re-tooling its line-up last sping when bassist Paul Kimble left the group, the L.A. based Grant Lee Buffalo has returned with a soulful new approach for its fourth album, "Jubilee," due out June 9.

With ex-Tonic bassist Dan Rothschild and veteran multi-instrumentalist Jon Brion joining guitarist/vocalist Grant Lee Phillips and drummer Joey Peters, the revamped Buffalo decided to expand its palette even more, and enlisted help from such artists as Wallflowers' keyboardist Rami Jaffee, Robyn Hitchcock and E from the Eels for the sessions.

Long-time friend Michael Stipe even stopped by the studios to provide vocals on "Everybody Needs A Little Sanctuary," a reciprocal gesture of sorts as Buffalo contributed a song, "The Whole Shebang," for the upcoming "Velvet Goldmine" soundtrack which the R.E.M. vocalist compiled. Stipe's association with the band dates back to when Grant Lee Buffalo served an opening stint on R.E.M.'s Monster Tour.

Buffalo had been playing
once a week gigs in L.A. to solidify its sound before it embarks on a club tour to preview material from "Jubilee."
