Leif Garrett is off California's wanted list.

Two days after issuing a bench warrant for the '70s teen-heartthrob's arrest, Los Angeles judge Maral Injejikian lifted the warrant and dropped Garrett's 1999 drug case Friday, when the singer presented proof he had completed a rehab program.

Garrett showed up in Superior Court and submitted documentation from a recovery center that showed he had met the terms of an earlier plea bargain in the case, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles district attorney said.

Injejikian issued a bench warrant when the 39-year-old former pinup missed a mandatory progress-report hearing scheduled for Wednesday.

Garrett accepted a plea bargain in August 1999, after he was busted for cocaine and heroin in a Los Angeles apartment building earlier that summer.

As part of the deal, he was ordered to complete a stint in rehab and appear in court for regular evaluations of his recovery. If he complied, he would stay out of jail and have the drug possession charge cleared from his record. He received a positive report in August.

Garrett's long battle with substance abuse also resulted in a 1979 car accident that left his friend Roland Winkler paralyzed. In 1997 Garrett was arrested for cocaine possession.

The singer, who scored his biggest hit with 1979's "I Was Made for Dancing," last surfaced on the music front leading the little-known rock group Godspeed. He has also appeared in several low-budget movies, such as "Dominion" (1995) and "The Whispering" (1996).

Former teen idol Leif Garrett is again a poster boy — only this time the posters say "Wanted." Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Maral Injejikian issued a warrant for Garrett's arrest Wednesday after he failed to appear in court for a progress report required by his 1999 conviction on drug charges. Garrett pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance via a plea bargain in August 1999. The charge stems from an arrest earlier that summer, when he was found with cocaine and heroin in a Los Angeles apartment. The judge told the singer at the time of his conviction that he would avoid jail time as long as he completed a stint in rehab and appeared in court for regular progress reports on his recovery. He received a positive report last summer, Injejikian's clerk said. Garrett's long battle with substance abuse also resulted in a 1979 car accident that left his friend Roland Winkler paralyzed. In 1997 he was arrested for cocaine possession.

The singer last surfaced on the music front leading the little-known rock group Godspeed.

After unleashing their latest effort, "The Crybaby," the guitar buzz maestros of The Melvins are hitting the road with a little help from fallen teen idol Leif Garrett.

The Melvins' current label, Ipecac Recordings, notes that after the band gets its U.S. tour rolling next Wednesday in Las Vegas, Leif and his band Godspeed will open the next seven dates of the outing.

For The Melvins, the tour finds the band touring behind its 18th album and third since signing to Mr. Bungle frontman Mike Patton's Ipecac. The album actually sees the band team with Garrett for a cover of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit."

Tool, Hank Williams III, Jesus Lizard's David Yow, Skeleton Key, and Mike Patton himself turn up on the album as well, as The Melvins recorded music for "The Crybaby" and sent it out to friends to add their unique contributions.

The result is, according to Ipecac, a uniquely schizophrenic experience, and it marks the third entry in a Melvins' trilogy that also includes "The Maggot" and "The Bootlicker" (all of which were released within the last year).

The band hopes to recreate some of that schizophrenia on the road, as Garrett will join the band for "Smells Like Teen Spirit" after his opening set. Ipecac noted that the band will also likely pick up other friends and local luminaries for select dates on the tour.

For Garrett, the brief opening stint finds him making the rounds with Godpseed, which released an EP last summer. Released on Garrett's Tongue and Groove Records, the EP boasts appearances by former Marilyn Manson guitarist Zim Zum and former Jane's Addiction/Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Dave Navarro, who plays piano.
