Christina Aguilera's New LP Includes Flo Rida Collabo, Producer Reveals

Christina Aguilera may have finished work on her new album, but that doesn't mean she's rushing to get it into stores. Producer Tricky Stewart, who worked with Aguilera on the still-untitled album, reveals that she wants to film her new movie, "Burlesque," before she puts the LP out there.

"The album is finished. She's mixing. She hasn't made a final decision about what the first single is, but I know everyone feels good about their options," he told Rapup.com. "She's gonna do the film first. She didn't want to not be able to promote this record because it's gonna be a big record for her."

Stewart, who has worked with everyone from Beyoncé to Rihanna, thinks that this album, like so many of Aguilera's in the past, shows another side of the singer. "It's just great. I wouldn't say that it's alternative, I wouldn't say that it's different," Stewart explained. "Christina's always been an artist that moves the bar and that's what the great ones do. They don't stay in the same place for too long, and this album is just another move for her."

As for collaborations, Aguilera has already talked about working with M.I.A. and Santigold on the album, but Stewart is revealing that she also hit the studio with another unexpected artist. "I know that there's a lot of other cool features, like I know that she has Santigold and Flo Rida on there," he said. "I put Flo Rida on my record because I love what he does. I think sometimes he doesn't get credit for being as dope as he is, but he's really dope."

Aguilera went retro for her Back to Basics album, and she's already touched on her love of the future on her song "Keeps Getting Better." But according to Stewart, this album harks back to her work from seven years ago, when she went a bit raunchy.

"I really feel it's one of her best bodies of work that I've heard since Stripped. I think it's really, really amazing and I think it's well put together," he said. "She's mixing it up again. She's singing R&B again, she's doing pop. She's doing it all, but she's found a way to make it all meet in the middle because she's so many different things."

As for Aguilera's ability to change up her musical style, Stewart credits that to her natural abilities as a singer. "She's a real serious musician, she's a real serious pop artist, and she's a real serious singer," he said. "She's making all her audiences happy at the same time."

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico — How in the world do you react when you're sitting down and get a call that Beyoncé wants to take you overseas — and pay you for it?

"You say, 'Thank you, Jesus!' " Flo Rida said with a grin Sunday night in New Mexico. He was about to go and perform as part of "New Mexico Takeover 4." The bill also included fellow Miami natives Rick Ross and Pitbull, as well as Busta Rhymes, Bun B and Twista. "[There are] a lot of people that's not in the position I'm in. So I don't take it for granted."

Flo Rida said he's been tapped to open shows for Beyoncé this week as she makes a run of concerts through Australia. Obviously, he's excited.

"I recall going to a couple of her concerts [in the past], like, 'Wow! If I could be in that type of venue and atmosphere.' [Doing the shows in Australia] I'll probably be around 50,000 people a night," Flo added. "I'm actually getting a chance to do that on my own now, but to grace a stage with someone so talented and that really loves what she does, it's definitely going to be big for me. I come from nothing, but I'm definitely gaining a whole lot just for the fact that I've dedicated myself to this, sacrificed and put God first."

The Miami native also said he was thinking about starting his own tour, but he's already heavily booked.

"A lot of people have hit me up [about touring]," he said. "I'm doing a lot of spot dates. It's definitely a lot of money out there. I'm traveling all over the world."

The next single from Flo's R.O.O.T.S. is "Be On You" with Ne-Yo, and "Finally Free" with Akon is a possible follow-up down the line.

"By the beginning of the year, I want to release another album, and hopefully it will be as successful as my latest two projects," he noted. A mixtape is coming from Flo very soon as well.

Before Rida hit the stage, he also took time to reflect on the death of DJ AM. He said he and AM crossed paths through Travis Barker.

"I actually got a chance to work with Trav, and being with Trav, I was around [AM]," he remembered. "He was always a great guy. My condolences go out to him and his family. Without the DJ, we can't get our point across. My blessings go out to him."

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico — The summer concert season closed out with a bang at the Journal Pavilion on Sunday night, as Florida kings Rick Ross, Pitbull, and Flo Rida filled out a roster that included Bun B, Warren G, Twista and headliner Busta Rhymes at the "New Mexico Takeover 4."

Bun B was one of the first big names to hit the stage, tantalizing the crowd with way-back UGK hits such as Jay-Z's "Big Pimpin'," then forwarding to current classics like "International Player's Anthem (I Choose You)."

Backstage, Warren G and Rick Ross plotted future collaborations. "I need some of them beats," Ross, surrounded by the Carol City Cartel and Masspike Miles, said to Warren in his dressing room with a grin. Meanwhile Warren, who had performed some of his classics like "Regulate" and "This DJ," talked about working with Michael Jackson. The West Coast producer said he has three songs in the can from years back with MJ, however, Jackson controlled the music and Warren has never gotten his hands on the finished songs.

Later Ross took the stage with his swagger-filled brand of gangsta music.

"I need silence for one second," the Boss said early in his set. "I gotta talk a little business." All of a sudden, as if on command, it started raining. "I heard it ain't nothing but hustlas out here."

This led, of course, to "Hustlin'." Later came "We Takin' Over" and "Push It."

"I love it! The weather is beautiful," Ross said during "Yacht Club."

The show stayed Miami, with Flo Rida getting loud love from the spectators with his hits such as "Low" and "Sugar." Flo's finale was "Right Round" where he rode on a bodyguard's shoulders through the crowd while he rapped.

However, Pitbull — whose new LP, Rebelution, drops this week — was probably the star of the night. The largely Hispanic crowd sang and danced along with songs such as "Bojangles," "Toma" and "Pull Up."

"I know you want me, you know I want ya!" they sang along heavily on "I Know You Want Me." "Hotel Room" was his closer.

Pitbull was a tough act to follow, but the mighty Busta Rhymes kept fans on their feet with his set, which featured hits like "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See," "Fire It Up," "Break Ya Neck," "Arab Money" and many others. Each record was performed with so much energy that you would have sworn it was Busta's last-ever concert.

"Pass the Courvoisier" ended the show, with Bus giving a champagne bath to the front row while Spliff Star showered people on the side of the stage.

The Best Hip-Hop Video category for this year's MTV Video Music Awards is stacked with heavy-hitters like Jay-Z and an impressive upstart in Asher Roth. But Flo Rida is just looking forward to being in the building September 13.

The rapper was nominated for his clip "Right Round," alongside Jay's "D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)", Roth's "I Love College," Kanye West's "Love Lockdown" and Eminem's "We Made You."

"I look forward to going [to the VMAs] and just enjoying myself," Flo said of his nomination. "It means a lot to me. I can recall being in Las Vegas [where he once lived] and watching the music awards [in Miami] and seeing Jay-Z up for an award, and now here I am in the same category. I definitely look up to these guys. And even the newcomers you can learn from."

The clip was directed by Malcolm Jones (Lil Mama, Ray J) and features Flo Rida being digitally imported to clubs across the world. The throwback track was inspired by a sample from Dead or Alive's "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)."

Earlier this year, Flo told MTV News how his sisters listened to pop music from the 1980s and the Dead or Alive song caught his ear. When he went to work on his sophomore album, the song was at the forefront of the project's foundation. Now it's his second blockbuster digital download following the breakout hit "Low," featuring T-Pain.

"I just wanted to show the growth, show people I'm very well in tune with the '80s music," he explained of the track and his album, R.O.O.T.S. "Growing up in my household with seven women, I'd hear all types of music."

The 2009 MTV Video Music Awards will take place September 13 at 9 p.m. ET. Nominees, celebrity presenters and additional performers will be announced in the coming weeks.

Spencer Pratt is certainly confident about his career as a rapper. He's released one track, "I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here," and he's already four songs into his debut album, Angels & Demons, which he hopes to have out by his birthday on August 14.

He says that by the time his album reaches record-store shelves he should have 12 songs that give fans some insight into what it's like to be Spencer Pratt. "I've been battling these demons, and ever since the angel Heidi came into my life, things have been better," he told MTV News. "Half the album is Spencer Pratt battling his demons and the other half is about me and my angel."

Pratt knows it won't be easy for him to convince people that he really wants to be an artist and that he isn't just trying to cash in on his "Hills" fame. And, in case you're wondering, he reads all the negative comments people leave about him.

"I would say to my critics, they inspire me to keep going even more than the day before, and I read all their posts and comments and it's amazing that they keep hating," he said. "[It hurts] a little bit. I feel like everyone's success is driven off their jealousy and envy."

To prove to everyone just how badly he wants to succeed in the music industry, he said that one day he'll just start giving his music away for free. Why? Because it's about more than making money.

"It's not the money. Eventually the music will be free, and it's because I want people to hear how much I want to make music," he said. "I think I can make tracks out there better than Flo Rida. I'll swoop down on Flo Rida in a second. I'm gonna get myself a 'Right Round.' "

Jesse slowed it down for "It's Over," which he called his favorite song off his album depature. But it was clear the fan fave was "How Do You Sleep?"

Soulja Boy Tell'Em played a very short set, which included "Crank That" followed by "Turn My Swag On." Then he requested all cell phones out as he took off his shirt to perform "Kiss Me Thru the Phone."

"Gossip Girl" star Taylor Momsen surprised the crowd, coming out to introduce the All American Rejects &#8212 while also plugging her band, the Pretty Reckless. AAR rocked the show with "Dirty Little Secret." Lead singer Tyson Ritter wanted to hear everyone scream for "Swing, Swing," and he showed some love for kids in the cheap seats before "Move Along." Then he broke into a spoken-word version of "Gives You Hell" before the band kicked in. After doing their new single, "The Wind Blows," Tyson did his best Nixon impression and walked out.

Ciara brought some girl power with ironically titled "Like a Boy." Then she showed everyone how limber she is by doing splits as she went into "Goodies." Unfortunately, her "Love Sex Magic" collaboration was left Justin Timberlake-less, but the sexy moves she performed along with her dancers (which included a Lady Gaga lookalike) more than made up for it.

Keeping the girl power alive, Kelly Clarkson's killer voice rocked the room with "Since U Been Gone." The set included lots of new songs off her new album, All I Ever Wanted, peppered with older hits, like "Miss Independent." Before "I Do Not Hook Up," Kelly listed her exceptions to that rule: Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe. "Walk Away," "Already Gone" and "If I Can't Have You" also were fan favorites leading up to her finale "My Life Would Suck Without You."

Sean Paul graced the stage to introduce Flo Rida, who then made everyone dance to "In the Ayer." Flo asked the crowd to sing along for "Jump." He brought some female fans onstage for "the record that made him international," "Low," and dedicated "Right Round" to all the single ladies.

The Black Eyed Peas were the night's final act. Their set was filled with hits like "Don't Phunk With My Heart" and "Let's Get It Started." Their theme of the night was all about finding the party people in the house, and "Pump It" helped in the search. After determining the "Humps" were controlling the room, they sang that song. Calling their L.A. crowd at last week's Wango Tango "wiggity wiggity wack," the Peas dedicated "Where Is the Love?" to the room, just before bringing the "Boom Boom Pow.

Flo Rida will tell you straight up: His biggest influences are the women in his life. His mom was strong, and his seven older sisters didn't take any mess and kept his head on straight. They also introduced him to a lot of music from the '80s.

Flo paid homage to the music he grew up with on his new LP, R.O.O.T.S.

"I just wanted to show the growth, show people I'm very well in tune with the '80s music," Flo said over the weekend during KIIS-FM's Wango Tango concert in L.A.; Lady Gaga, Soulja Boy and others also performed. "Growing up in my household with seven women, I'd hear all types of music."

Flo's "Right Round" is still one of the top records in the world, chiefly because of the catchy hook that's inspired by Dead or Alive's "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)."

"I went into the studio with Dr. Luke, who produced the record, and we came up with this record that made history," Rida said. "I go in the studio and do my thing. When people heard the production and how we flipped the hook, they were astonished."

The follow-up to "Right Round" is a song called "Sugar," featuring his labelmate Wynter. That video should be out within the next several days.

"[Wynter] is a brand-new artist coming off of Atlantic Records," the Miami native said. "She has a beautiful voice. She matched the song very well, so we went along with it."

What's the use of having a "save" card in your pocket if you never pull it out? That was the question some "American Idol" fans might have been asking on Wednesday night, when one of this season's most beloved contestants, Arizona's Scott MacIntyre, 23, faced elimination. But, once more, the judges said this was not the week to use the one-time-only reprieve after the good-natured visually impaired singer failed to impress them with another weak performance.

With only three more weeks left to employ the save, it's becoming clear that the judging panel is holding on tightly to it, just in case they're presented with a Chris Daughtry/ Jennifer Hudson-style surprise.

Before breaking the bad news to Scotty Mac, the show opened with the latest burst of passive-aggressive teasing between judge Simon Cowell and host Ryan Seacrest. Seacrest capped off his jokes about Simon's age by introducing a special guest appearance from legendary 1950s crooner Frankie Avalon, who came out at the top of the night as part of a tribute to the year Simon was born, 1959, singing his signature hit, "Venus."

That was followed by the the weekly group number. The remaining eight contestants performed Kylie Minogue's "Can't Get You Out of My Head," which came out the year the American version of "Idol" was born, 2002.

Adam Lambert was the first to stand up, and for the first time, his fate could have been put in jeopardy when Tuesday's show went nearly eight minutes over, causing many viewers who recorded the show to miss his stunning performance. He was joined by Kris Allen and Anoop Desai. Lambert wasn't standing long, though, thanks to a stunning performance of which drew what is believed to be the first-ever standing ovation from Simon Cowell in the show's history. Also sitting down was Kris Allen, safe despite a harsh rebuke from Simon for his funked-up cover of Don Henley's "All She Wants To Do Is Dance." Desai then made the walk to the bottom three once again, after the audience decided his cover of Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors" didn't wash with them.

The next to stand up was Danny Gokey, who made it through another week with a decent response to his cover of country singer Mickey Gilley's version of the Ben E. King classic, "Stand by Me." Also safe was Matt Giraud. But it was another trip to the bottom for MacIntyre, who got his first universally bad marks for a truly shambolic, off-key stumble through Survivor's "The Search Is Over."

It seemed a safe bet that teenager Allison Iraheta would skate through after the judges rained more kudos on her for a mature, powerful version of Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make You Love Me," and she did. The news was not so good for one-time front-runner Lil Rounds, who got bashed for her karaoke-like take on Tina Turner's "What's Love Got to Do With It," landing her in the bottom three for the first time.

With the time running out on the judges' save, Cowell looked at the bottom three and said, "I don't think it mattered before, but I think this is the first week where it probably does matter," adding that the judges would definitely consider saving one of the bottom dwellers.

Rounds was sent back to safety, at which point Seacrest noted that 34 million votes came in on Tuesday night and that the bottom two vote-getters were separated by just 30,000 votes. Once Desai was spared again, MacIntyre was left to sing for his "Idol" life. With no electric guitar in hand this time, MacIntyre reprised the turgid power ballad, pouring his heart into the cliché-ridden lyrics, but hitting a truly bum note near the end that appeared to seal his fate in the competition.

Paula and Kara were on their feet cheering him on, and when it came time to render a verdict, Simon admitted that the panel was split. Following more deliberation, Simon shrugged his shoulders and said, unlike last week, when he had no qualms about sending home Megan Joy, this decision was tough.

I really, really like you, Scott," Cowell said. "I'm looking over there, and I think there's a bunch of talented singers, so this decision isn't just based on you. It's whether I think somebody, or we think somebody, is more talented over there."

After another awkward pause and some hemming and hawing from Paula and Kara about how Mac had gotten it right in the past but had made a poor song choice this week, Seacrest pressed Cowell for a definitive answer. "You want me to make a decision?" Cowell asked the rest of the panel. "You want me to make it? Scott, someone's got to make a decision here, and I'm going to say it's the end of the competition. Sorry."

Seacrest and the rest of the cast gathered to give MacIntyre a hug as the show's first visually impaired contestant was sung off, but not before Paula told him, "You've been an inspiration to the entire world through your commitment, through your talent. And we all watch 'American Idol' so that we as an audience get to witness unique and gifted artists as you, Scott. ... You are one classy gentleman. God bless you, we love you."

Season-five sixth-place finisher and country sensation Kellie Pickler returned to the show on Wednesday to sing her current single, "Best Days of Your Life," co-written by good pal Taylor Swift. The spunky blond singer had some fun on her return trip, stopping by the judges' table to do a little playful flirting with Simon and Randy as she worked the crowd.

The show also featured the "Idol" debut of rapper Flo Rida, who performed his #1 hit single, "Right Round." Flanked by a female back up singer, a hype man and four female dancers in spangly booty shorts and tank tops, the rapper sang an unedited version of the tune, which, depending on how you choose to interpret it, is either about watching a stripper slide down a pole or receiving oral sex from a woman, or both. Either way, the song is about as far as the family-friendly show has ever pushed the musical envelope.

Next week promises a return to G-rated territory, when former "Idol" cast-off and Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson makes her long-rumored return to the show, which will also feature a performance from Miley Cyrus and guest mentoring from avowed "Idol" fanatic director Quentin Tarantino for the week's " 'Idol' at the Movies" theme.

"American Idol" might be the cleanest, most family-friendly show on TV. The performers always dress the part, but never inappropriately or with too much skin showing. There are no songs with objectionable, suggestive lyrics sung by the contestants, who invariably smile and giggle their way through the weekly lip-synched group numbers and, in general, seem to be having the time of their lives despite a grueling schedule that would break any mere mortal.

And when guest performers come on to plug their latest singles — such as former winners Kelly Clarkson, David Cook and Carrie Underwood or recent-season guests like Jon Bon Jovi, Neil Diamond,
Mariah Carey or Gwen Stefani — the most controversial thing they do is perhaps engage Simon Cowell in some good-natured verbal jousting.

But, following a performance by Lady Gaga of "Poker Face" last week, in which the space-age dance diva sang about Russian roulette, rough love and included the risquéé line " 'cause I'm bluffin' with my muffin," it seems "Idol" might be easing into slightly edgier territory.

The Gaga performance came the same week that a reported 11 percent of Fox affiliates refused to show the new variety show from the Osbournes, "Osbournes: Reloaded," because they said it was objectionable and not appropriate to run after the family-oriented "Idol," which airs in the heart of prime time and is popular with everyone from small children to grandparents. Tellingly, the Osbournes' show did not air again in its post-"Idol" spot on Tuesday night.

What will those same affiliates say when they get a load of upcoming musical guest Flo Rida? The wildly popular, burly rapper has hit a home run with his latest smash, "Right Round," a super catchy number that samples the Dead or Alive 1985 dance anthem "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)."

Here's the thing: The chorus of the song can certainly be interpreted as a not-so-thinly veiled homage to getting oral sex from a woman, in which Rida raps, "You spin my head right rough, right round/ when you go down, when you go down down." While much of the tune is about Flo Rida hangin' with his boys, there are also lyrics about being in a strip club and throwing money at a dancer sliding down a stripper pole — not exactly the usual "Idol" fare.

A spokesperson for the show confirmed on Wednesday that Rida would be performing "Right Round," but did not respond to questions about whether the more explicit scenarios in the song — such as a line in which Rida says "get dirty all night, that's part of my thing" — would be censored or altered in any way during the show.

Despite releasing a budget-priced $11.98 three-CD set at Target, Prince will miss out on landing just the second #1 debut of his career next week, when his new collection, Lotus Flow3r bows at #2 on sales of 168,000.

Who beat him out? New Zealand good ol' boy Keith Urban, whose Defying Gravity will grab the top spot in its first-week on sales of close to 172,000. And, as the release calendar continues to heat up, the top 10 once again sees a number of other debuts, including jazz singer Diana Krall at #3 with 104,000 copies sold of her latest, Quiet Nights, and rappers UGK at #6 with UGK 4 Life, which moved 76,000 units. And despite smashing the singles charts with his suggestive "Right Round," Flo Rida will have to settle for a #8 debut for his second album, R.O.O.T.S., which sold 55,000.

The rest of the top 10 includes last week's #1 album, the NOW 30 compilation, which dropped to #4 (87,000); last week's #2, the "Hannah Montana" movie soundtrack, which slipped to #5 (87,000); the "Twilight" soundtrack (#7, 73,000); Lady Gaga's Fame (#9, 51,000); and Taylor Swift's Fearless (#10, 42,000), which makes it back into the top 10 after falling out last week for the first time since the nearly 3 million-selling disc's release in November.

That's impressive, but the 500-plus percent jump by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs was even more so, as the New York trio's It's Blitz zoomed from the depths of the chart (#160) up to #22 (22,000), following the physical release of the album that had previously been an iTunes exclusive.

The news was not as good for thinking-man's metalers Mastodon, whose Crack the Skye dropped nearly 70 percent from its debut last week, crashing 33 spots to #44 on sales of 13,000. Also suffering big second-week losses were Slim Thug whose Boss of All Bosses lost nearly 50 percent on its skid from #15 to #32 (17,000), and Jim Jones, whose Pray IV Reign dives 31 spots to #40 on sales of under 14,000.

Other chart debuts include: Queensryche's American Soldier (#25, 21,000), Death Cab for Cutie's Open Door EP (#41, 14,000), Silverstein's Shipwreck in the Sand ( #42 13,000), Stevie Nicks' Soundstage Sessions (#47 13,000), Gomez's New Tide (#74, 9,000), Leonard Cohen's Live in London (#76, 9,000), and PJ Harvey and John Parish's Woman a Man Walked By (#80, 8,000).

Next week, look for the latest from Rascal Flatts, Jadakiss, Neil Young and Billy Ray Cyrus.
