It's been three years since L.A.-based funk collective Fishbone released its last album, 1996's "Chim Chim's Badass Revenge." Next year, though, the band is set to return to record stores in a big way, with a lot of help from its friends.
Fishbone is wrapping up work on "The Psychotic Friends Nuttwerx," and the album will be sporting quite a guest list. According to the band's new label, Hollywood Records, some of the folks who contribute to the album include No Doubt's Gwen Stefani, one-time Bad Brains leader H.R., Rick James, George Clinton, Perry Farrell, Flea, John Frusciante, and Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, former Super 8 member Bob Khaleel, Ivan Neville, Lili Hayden, and Donny Osmond.
The label adds that one or two more names may be added to this list by the time the album's track list is finalized, though there's no word yet on who those other names will be. In July, Primus' manager told MTV News that his clients had spent a full day in the studio with
the group. Around the same time, a spokesperson for Busta Rhymes(who appeared on "Chim Chim's Badass Revenge") told MTV News that the rapper had been trying to schedule some time with the group (see "Fishbone's Friends Include Gwen Stefani, Busta, Primus, Chilis, Osmonds").
"The Psychotic Friends Nuttwerx" is due in stores on March 21. Fishbone, who recently performed at Cypress Hill's Smoke Out '99 festival, have only one concert scheduled in the near future: they will be playing at the Cannibus Cup in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, on November 24.

After some last minute shuffling, the 1999 Watcha Tour has announced a final lineup for its inaugural outing, which is slated to kick off on August 1 in Miami.
The Latin-tinged offshoot of the highly successful Warped Festival now features a bill that includes Control Machete, Illya Kuryaki, the Chris Perez Band, Molotov, Cafe Tacuba, and Puya, which will roll into Watcha after wrapping up its stint on this year's Ozzfest.
Other bands booked for one or more of the Watcha Tour dates are Fishbone, Titan, Royal Crown Revue, Union 13, Atomic Fireballs, Todos Tus Muertos, Bersuit, Enanitos Verdes, and Viva Malpache.
An exact lineup for each date of the Watcha Tour is expected to get hammered out with the next week or so, but artists on the bill will most likely rotate from city to city.
Cypress Hill had signed on to headline Watcha, but pulled out last month in order to concentrate on recording a pair of new albums, one in English and another in Spanish (see "Cypress Hill Steps Down From Watcha Tour").
After Cypress balked, organizers told MTV News that they were negotiating with rapper Eminem to fill the vacant spot, since he would already be out on the road with the Warped Tour, but he turned down the offer as well.
Confirmed dates and venues for the '99 Watcha Tour:

8/1 - Miami, FL @ Pompano Amphitheater
8/2 - Orlando, FL @ Central Florida Fairgrounds
8/3 - Atlanta, GA @ International Ballroom
8/5 - San Antonio, TX @ Sunken Garden Amphitheater
8/6 - Dallas, TX @ Bronco Bowl
8/7 - South Padre Island, TX @ Charlie's
8/8 - Houston, TX @ Woodlands Pavilion
8/10 - El Paso, TX @ UTEP
8/12 - Phoenix, AZ @ Celebrity
8/13 - San Diego, CA Coors Amphitheater
8/14 - San Francisco, CA @ Santa Jose Fairgrounds
8/15 - Los Angeles, CA @ Greek Theater

L.A.-based funk-punk collective Fishbone is gathering some famous names to guest on its new album, "Fishbone and Friends," and if all goes according to plan, those friends will include No Doubt's Gwen Stefani, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Busta Rhymes, Primus, Perry Farrell, and (of all people) Donny and Marie Osmond.
Stefani recorded a track for the project on Monday, according to a post on the official No Doubt Web site by ND guitarist Tom Dumont. A spokesperson for the Red Hot Chili Peppers informed MTV News that the band joined Fishbone in the studio this past Sunday. Primus' manager, David Lefkowitz, told MTV News that his clients spent a full day in the studio with the group last month, and a management rep for Farrell confirmed that the former Janes Addiction frontman recorded a track with the group last week.
Fishbone's "Friends" project (its seventh studio effort) was first announced in the summer of 1998, but rounding up such stellar friends apparently takes time. A
representative for the band's label, Hollywood Records, told MTV News that the label hopes to have the CD out in the late fall.
Often compared with Bad Brains and the Chili Peppers, Fishbone is known for its complex combination of funk, punk, metal, and high-energy ska. The band was formed back in 1979 while its members were still in high school, and its first EP was released in 1985. Three original members -- Walter Kibby II, Angelo Moore, and Norwood Fisher -- remain with the ensemble. New additions include Spacey T., John McKnight, and Deion Murdock.
The group's last release was 1996's "Fishbone 101 - Nuttasaurusmeg," a best-of/rarities collection.
