Scots-born singer Finley Quaye is apparently about to be sued by a hotel manager who says he was assaulted by Quaye.

The "London Daily Mirror" reports that the alleged incident occurred in the hotel lobby of the upscale Marriott Hotel in Swiss Cottage, North London, after Quaye allegedly complained about slow room service. An altercation apparently ensued, police were called and the singer was taken to nearby Hampstead police station.

The report says that hotel manager John Williams, a 50-year-old former cop, initially received emergency treatment and was later hospitalized for a bloodclot to his ear stemming from the initial injury.

Williams told the "Mirror" that he was upset that Quaye had only been cautioned by the authorities, which happened because the Police had lost the video tape of the incident, thus Quaye couldn't be charged.

Williams added that the matter was now in the hands of his solicitors.

If you've heard about rising British reggae rock singer Finley Quaye, then you've probably heard that he's related to trip-hop guru Tricky, an announcement that apparently isn't sitting well with Tricky.

Quaye says he's the half-brother of Tricky's late mother (Maxine Quaye, whom Tricky's 1994 debut album is named for), and his record label has been publicizing the singer as Tricky's half-uncle, a move that has raised Tricky's ire.

While Quaye was reluctant to discuss his family connection to Tricky when he sat down with MTV News recently, Tricky is being quite outspoken about his annoyance, and has even recorded a song about it. The track, called "Can't Freestyle," has been dropped from his upcoming album "Angels With Dirty Faces" (due out this summer), but it seems to call out Quaye on his claims.

On the track, Tricky says, "You call yourself a Quaye/don't you feel no shame/taking my mother's name in vain,/and if you are/how come I've never met you/before only
a year ago/when I was on tour?"

Despite Tricky's lyrics, Finley Quaye's people are standing by his claim that he's Tricky's half-uncle.

Stateside fans hoping to catch rising Scottish reggae-rock singer Finley Quaye in the act will have to wait a bit longer.

Quaye abruptly canceled four U.S. tour dates and flew back to the U.K. over the weekend after his guitarist quit the band.

The singer, who has received wide acclaim and platinum U.K. sales for his debut album "Maverick With A Strike," left the country in a huff when the guitarist left the group after Friday night's gig at New York City's Roseland Ballroom.

Quaye was scheduled to open for Ben Harper Saturday night in Philadelphia, then was to play two shows in Washington, D.C. and one more in Boston.

The last time we caught up with Quaye, two weeks ago, he seemed optimistic about the outing.

"I'll be looking forward to that," Quaye told MTV News of what was then his upcoming stint with Ben Harper. "There'll be some really good people at Ben's shows, you know, people who appreciate music. I find Ben... obviously, he's hurt sometimes.
He uses a lot of slide guitar, lap steel blues guitar, and his music is often melancholic, and that's all a part of the emotional world, you know. But I'm not going there to support that or to back that up or to highlight that at all. I'm going there to play our music, which is a variety of music."

There's no word yet on whether Quaye will be able to make up any U.S. dates, or if he'll be able to play an upcoming series of sold-out London shows.

December 30 [11:30 EDT] -- U.K. raggae rocker Finley Quaye and his nephew Tricky jammed with punk icon Iggy Pop recently and emerged from the New York City studio with the track "Please Share My Dappy Umbrella."

Though this meeting of trilateral powers would impress most, Quaye told MTV News recently that he took his session with Pop in stride.

"Iggy just came down because he was a friend of Tricky's. Tricky and myself were just having a jam, really, at the studio. So we got the three of us set up on three different microphones and a couple of hip hop djs twisting their art on the desk. And we got a good evening."

Quaye said of Pop, [he's] "friendly, serious, funny, amazing...yeah. He's a rare one, you know what I mean?" [800k QuickTime]

Quaye's first single from "Maverick A Strike" is "Sunday Shining," a cover of Bob Marley's "Sun Is Shining." Due to label logistics, the track did not end up on "Maverick."
We'll keep you posted.
