There was a wide variety of looks on the American Music Awards red carpet, but there was one overriding theme: black and sparkles, be it sequins or jewels.

Selena Gomez wore a little sparkly dress cinched with a belt, while Keri Hilson funked up her short, long-sleeved black dress with lots of sequins. Kelly Clarkson also went with classic black, in a dress with shimmering silver-sequin detailing. Alicia Keys broke all the color rules in her corseted tie-dye dress with sequins.

Demi Lovato looked hip in a blush-colored dress with a jeweled halter neck, and Carrie Underwood went for the blush tone as well in a Grecian-style gown. Leona Lewis went edgy in a leather minidress with a geometric neckline. "American Idol" winner Kris Allen looked dapper in his gray pinstripe suit with black piping, and fellow "Idol" alum Adam Lambert channeled his inner Elvis with his slicked-back hair and sleek suit.

Speaking of "Idol," Paula Abdul looked chic in a simple black strapless mermaid dress. Fergie also wore black, in the form of a shimmering leather gown that looked a lot like the one Shakira wore to the VMAs in September. The guys also embraced the black trend, with Drake and Keith Urban donning nearly identical black suits with black button-downs, with noticeably absent ties. Urban, however, accessorized his look with his glamorous wife, Nicole Kidman, who looked stunning in a taupe tiered Balenciaga gown with a bright pink stripe.

Speaking of pairings, 50 Cent, clad in a gray suit, showed up with Val Kilmer in his most formal cowboy outfit. Shakira bucked the trends in a short, bright yellow dress with a V-style corset. However, perhaps no one made a bigger statement than Rihanna who, despite wearing black and sequins, managed to stand out in her strapless dress with A-line hem and rose cutouts, making another uniquely glam appearance.

Until the demise of the Fame Kills Tour, Kanye West had been planning to hit the road with Lady Gaga, one of the gay-friendliest pop stars out there today. So it doesn't really come out of left field to have Fergie credit him, along with her cohorts in the Black Eyed Peas, for helping make the world of hip-hop a little more open to alternative lifestyles.

"They're completely gay-friendly. Are you kidding me? Look at how they dress!" she joked to The Advocate about the guys in her band. "Kanye West really did a great thing for hip-hop and made it very mixed and open."

As for her own sexuality, the singer says that although she's now married to actor Josh Duhamel, she has experimented with girls in the past. So when the time came for her to get flirty with a girl or two in the "I Gotta Feeling" video, she didn't flinch for a second. "Yes, it was [my idea to flirt with the girls]," she said. "That was fun because it was so naughty. It was a big tease, but it felt very natural."

Long before she was a pop star, Fergie got her start on a beloved children's show, "Kids Incorporated." She admits now that she made a few gay friends back then. "Oh, there were plenty on that show," she said. "But I don't want to out anyone, just in case."

Although Fergie seemed open to talking about most subjects, including her upcoming role in "Nine," the singer chose not to discuss an altercation between Peas manager Liborio "Polo" Molina and Perez Hilton in Toronto in June. She noted, though, that she was upset that night because Perez had been criticizing her music on his blog and that it had bothered her.

"When I see somebody I thought was my friend or starting to be my friend," she said, sighing, "when someone talks out of both sides of their mouth, it just makes me question their integrity."

Fergie performed songs from her 2006 solo album, The Duchess, at the Avon Foundation for Women Awards Gala in New York City on Tuesday night, but she doesn't have plans to work on new solo music anytime soon. She's still riding high on the success of the Black Eyed Peas latest release, The E.N.D., and the group's touring schedule is keeping her busy these days.

She wasn't too busy, however, to attend the gala to show her support for women who are fighting breast cancer and to help end domestic violence. "I'm performing my own songs, not Peas songs, 'cause I don't have the boys with me today," she told MTV News on the red carpet about performing at the event sans bandmates Will.I.Am., Taboo and apl.de.ap. "This is more about women."

She also explained that her performance was in no way a tease for an upcoming solo record. "Oh my gosh! I am so up to [the] top of my head in Peas land right now that I am not even thinking about another solo album right now. I'm knee deep in that and we're about to tour the world."

In addition to recently being approved as part-owner of the Miami Dolphins football team, Fergie will be appearing on the big screen in the Rob Marshall-directed musical Nine. She'll star alongside a who's who of Hollywood that includes Sophia Loren, Daniel Day-Lewis and Nicole Kidman. "It's a musical. It's wonderful," she said. "It's an art piece."

While conservative bloviator Rush Limbaugh is running into some stiff resistance in his bid to become one of the owners of the St. Louis Rams, the Black Eyed Peas' Fergie faced no such roadblocks in her quest to become a force in football as part-owner of the Miami Dolphins. According to SportingNews.com, NFL owners voted on Tuesday to approve her as the latest celebrity minority investor in the storied NFL franchise.

Though the Dolphins have yet to ink an official deal with the singer, as soon as she signs the papers with the team, she can become an investor. Dolphins owner Stephen Ross said he's had discussions with Fergie about the deal, but because the Peas are currently touring Australia, he's not yet gotten her signature.

Once the deal is ironed out, Fergie (born Stacy Ann Ferguson), 34, will join a roster of other celebrity investors in the Dolphins that includes singer Marc Anthony, tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams, flip-flop aficionado Jimmy Buffett and Latin music power couple Emilio and Gloria Estefan. It was not announced how big a stake Fergie, a California native, was purchasing in the team, but it probably won't be big enough to convince them to hire bandmate Will.I.Am.

All of the Dolphins' bold-name owners have bought very small portions of the team and have agreed to make appearances at the stadium during games as part of Ross' effort to attract a more diverse crowd. On Monday, Estefan teamed up with Hank Williams Jr. on a bilingual version of the Monday Night Football anthem, "Are You Ready for Some Football?" as part of the NFL's Hispanic Heritage Month celebration.

At the Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival in San Francisco on Saturday night (August 29), Fergie and the Black Eyed Peas spoke with MTV News about their shock after hearing the news of DJ AM's sudden death on Friday, and their recollections of hanging out with their friend.

Peas rapper Taboo revealed that the band spent time with AM just days before he passed away. "Oh man, we were shocked [when we heard]," he said. "We couldn't believe it. We were just with him [last] Friday in Las Vegas. We DJed with him and we took a couple pictures, and to hear it is devastating."

Fergie has recollections of AM that date back more than a decade. "I just have great memories of him DJing at all the clubs I used to go to — sometimes with a fake ID! — and when I got old enough to go," Fergie said.

Before she joined the Peas, Fergie recalled, she once practiced her dance moves during a low-key club night with AM behind the turntables. "I remember going to this club called Firehouse back in the day," she said. "It was, like, the summer of '98 and he used to spin there. It's a big dance club and this one night I remember there was basically 10 people in the club, but I really wanted to dance that night. It was the perfect night for me to practice dancing because not a lot of people were there and he was spinning, and they kept the club open and he kept spinning really good music. He was so cool like that."

"He's been a good friend of ours," added Peas member Apl.De.Ap. "Our prayers go out to his family. We're gonna miss him."

While BEP were at Outside Lands to perform an hour-long set on Saturday, DJ AM, who survived a plane crash last September with Blink 182's Travis Barker, remained in the band's thoughts.

"He was just so talented and just such a cool, good-spirited person," said Fergie. "There wasn't a mean bone in that guy's body, and it's just really sad after what happened with him and Travis and now this, it's really sad."

Being the lone girl in the Black Eyed Peas wasn't the biggest obstacle Fergie had to overcome when she joined the band back in 2003; it was convincing the fans that she belonged there that really posed a problem for the singer.

"When I first joined, there were a lot of people who didn't know what to make of me, and they'd been a fan of Black Eyed Peas being an underground hip-hop band," she said in the Women in Music issue of Elle. "Then I come in, and the first song we released when I was in the band was 'Where Is the Love?' with Justin Timberlake. So when that hit all the crossover markets, a lot of people said it was my fault that they were taken out of the underground."

Instead of letting the harsh words get to her, she used it as motivation, and as the group's subsequent success shows, it worked. "I had to read a lot of criticism," she said. "But it only made me hungrier."

Fergie, who admits to trashing her bandmates' hotel rooms while on tour, has always had a tomboy spirit. And it's only since becoming a Pea that she's learned to embrace her femininity.

"When I first joined the Peas, I didn't ever want to wear a skirt. I was in a kind of hard-edge point in my life, rough around the edges, collecting unemployment and living at my mom's," she said. "I wasn't in a girly mood at all. But finally, when 'Hey Mama' came around, the guys persuaded me to wear a skirt."

She added that "once I did, it was kind of fun and flirty, and I started exploring that part of my personality again."

It's May — you know what that means. It's getting warm, the flowers are blooming and the time-honored tradition of prom is back again. So get your corsages, turn up the cheesy music and fuel the limos, because this week we're catching up with your favorite stars and helping them relive their prom memories.

This week, we've heard about all kinds of crazy prom fashion memories. Whether it was Whitney Port's gold dress, Stephanie Pratt's daring fashion choices that got her into trouble or Lo Bosworth's Laguna Beach-style couture, the prom is definitely known for its fashion.

And although these days it may seem like Fergie is channeling Princess Leia with the metal, clawed glove she wore on "American Idol" Wednesday night, back in the day Los Angeles area native Fergie was inspired by a very glamorous cartoon vixen for her prom look.

"I wore a lot of sequins, a lot of sequins," she told MTV News about her prom-dress memories. "I had this one dress that I designed. It was red, all the way down to the floor with a slit."

She continued that the look was very sexy because "it was all red sequins." Perhaps inspired by "Who Framed Roger Rabbit," she added, "I wanted to look like Jessica Rabbit!"

Forget the crumbling economy and those scary Somali pirates. The big presidential decision everyone has been waiting for since Barack Obama took office was finally resolved over the weekend, when the first family welcomed Bo the Portuguese water dog to the White House.

According to TMZ, Sasha and Malia finally got their dog on Saturday, but not before the eagerly awaited unveiling almost turned into a controversy. While the Washington Post had been promised dibs on the feel-good story, TMZ tried to spoil the surprise by breaking the news over the weekend, despite the Obamas' plan to keep the news under wraps until Tuesday.

The 6-month-old curly-haired black-and-white dog, who arrived with a colorful Hawaiian lei around his neck, was obtained from the same Texas kennel that bred Senator Ted Kennedy's three dogs, according to the Post. Bo — originally known as Amigo's New Hope, then Charlie — was born in October, and even before the breeders had any inkling that the Obamas would be in the market for a White House pup, they named the litter the "Hope and Change Litter," out of their affection for the Democratic candidate.

The Obama girls first met the dog several weeks ago, when it was brought to Washington for a brief visit to see if the adoption would work out.

And, less than a week after the White House hosted what's believe to be the first ever Passover seder, the Obama's are breaking with tradition again on Monday (April 13) by spicing up the guest list for the annual White House Easter Egg Roll. The event, which traditionally has a relatively staid group of guests, will feature performances from Black Eyed Peas' Fergie and reggae star Ziggy Marley, readings from Josh Duhamel and a handful of sports stars, including soccer player Julie Foudy, basketball player Renee Brown and football player Derrick Dockery.

The Associated Press reported that the 30,000 attendees will also get some sports tips from basketball players Marissa Coleman and Nikki Blue and soccer stars Brianna Scurry and Abby Wambach.

Fergie's mom, Terri Jackson, spilled the beans to Ryan Seacrest about her daughter's weekend nuptials in Malibu, California. The Black Eyed Pea and her new hubby, "Transformers" star Josh Duhamel, held a star-studded reception on Saturday, where everyone from Kid Rock to Will.I.Am made an appearance.

"It was such a blast — 350, 375 people were there and that was keeping [the number of invitees] way down," she revealed to the "American Idol" host on his radio show Monday morning (January 12). "So many people couldn't bring a date unless they paid me money or something! It had to be someone you're actually engaged to or something like that."

She added, "[It was so much fun] you can hear it in my voice!" Jackson also said that there are probably a slew of other hoarse people out there after they performed for the newly married couple.

"Kid Rock was there, with Will.I.Am rapping," she said. "It was an amazing show. It would cost you a fortune — and I'm sure it did — to see this show."

There was also an unexpected performer that managed to secure a spot on the stage. ["Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" star Alfonso Ribeiro] was amazing," Jackson said. "That guy can sing! Fergie and he have been friends for years."

"I've never seen either of them look more beautiful," she said about the couple. Describing her daughter as "amazing," she also joked around about the rumors that Fergie and Duhamel are expecting a little bundle of joy. "Yeah, that's it [she's pregnant]! Josh's mother [is like], 'Would she hurry up and have that elephant?' "

Fergie and Josh Duhamel were married Saturday (January 10) at the Church Estate Vineyards in Malibu, California on Saturday, People.com reports.

Guests at the wedding included Fergie's fellow Black Eyed Peas, Kid Rock, Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash, Kate Hudson (Fergie's co-star in her upcoming movie "Nine"), Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O'Connell, Mario Lopez, Stacy Keibler, along with Duhamel's Las Vegas co-stars James Caan, Molly Sims and Vanessa Marcil, according to the site.

The Black Eyed Peas singer (whose real name is Stacy Ann Ferguson), 33, and the actor, 36, confirmed their engagement in December of 2007.

According to People, Fergie carried a bouquet of white flowers studded with crystals as the couple exchanged H. Stern rings engraved with personal messages. Fergie was accompanied by 10 bridesmaids.

The ceremony was followed by a reception in a tent decorated as a forest of trees, with the ceiling covered in lights, according to People.com.

The wedding week reportedly kicked off on Wednesday with a joint bachelor-bachelorette party at the newly opened Dakota Lounge in Santa Monica, California, and a Hawaiian-themed rehearsal dinner took place on Friday.

Fergie has been at work on the long-awaited follow-up to the Black Eyed Peas' 2005 album Monkey Business. She and fellow Pea Will.I.Am enjoyed big success with Fergie's 2006 solo LP, The Dutchess.
