Last year, when the full Lollapalooza lineup was leaked by Chicago Sun-Times music critic Jim DeRogatis, Perry Farrell was so angry that he invoked the name of amorous French skunk Pepe Le Pew.

This year, when a handful of Lolla headliners were revealed by The Chicago Tribune, Farrell refrained from mentioning any cartoon characters. Instead, he's striking a different tone: optimism.

"Well, it's pesky. But you gotta look at it like this: It's kind of exciting these guys care enough to try to dig up what we're doing every year, and, um, it's a great lineup, so I'm not too mad that people happen to know [about it]," Farrell told MTV News at South by Southwest on Thursday, hours before he and the re-formed Jane's Addiction tore through Playboy's "Rock the Rabbit" party. "And they don't know the 100 other groups that are coming. ... But Lollapalooza now has six headliners, so there's two they don't now about. [Plus,] even the people who are playing before us are awesome, so no, I'm not too mad about it."

Farrell wouldn't divulge the names of the other two Lollapalooza headliners, who will join Jane's, the Kings of Leon, the Beastie Boys and Depeche Mode atop the bill August 7-9 at Grant Park in Chicago. Nor was he willing to discuss any of the "100 other groups" apparently confirmed for the fest. But he did hint at an increased electronic presence at Lolla '09 — perhaps he's thinking of reviving his old ENIT festival? — and managed to compare himself to a certain pop-culture pariah in the process. The man truly is a master of the sound bite.

"We have a lineup in the electronic world that's a who's who of electronic artists, and they don't know anything about that, either," Farrell added. "I kind of feel like Octomom, you know? Getting all this attention. Who cares?"

To one generation, the hit "Twilight" soundtrack melds Stephenie Meyer's fantasy world with such up-and-coming artists as Paramore and Mute Math. To a slightly older one, it connects the iconic Perry Farrell with a chaste franchise unlike anything from his Jane's Addiction/ Porno for Pyros past.

Now, the legendary rocker is eager to bridge the gap.

Farrell and his wife, Etty, contacted MTV News this week, eager to debut the video for the song "Go All the Way (Into the Twilight)" with the one-and-only home of "Twilight" Tuesdays. Although Twilighters probably know the song's lyrics by heart at this point, wait until they get a load of this sensual clip, which has the duo dragging the vampire tale into decidedly NC-17 territory.

"We knew Catherine [Hardwicke] from her last film, 'The Lords of Dogtown,' and before 'Twilight' was all put together and fully assembled, she invited us to the studio to take a look at certain scenes and asked if we'd be interested to donate a song," Farrell told us of the song featured in the video, directed by Andrew Bennett ( Nickelback's "Rockstar"). "We had a song we were working on called 'Go All the Way,' and it suited the film perfectly."

Playing off the "Twilight" themes of reds, blacks and temptation, the clip features various club-goers celebrating their mutual attraction with pomegranates and other forbidden fruit. As Perry and Etty unleash the song's hook and lyrics like "I'm going to let you have it like you've never had it before," the video feels both appropriate and a million miles away from Edward and Bella's romance.

"This [movie] is about a young man and a young woman. [Edward] wants to go all the way in his heart, but his head is saying no. [Bella] wants to go all the way in her heart and in her head," Farrell explained. "It's the idea of going all the way."

For the one Twilighter out there who still hasn't seen the movie, "Go All the Way" plays during the prom scene at the end of the hit film. A hybrid of dance and rock, the track will also appear on Farrell's next album.

And as "New Moon" rumors continue to swirl around, Farrell told us that he and Etty are both "Twilight" fans and would love to write a song for the sequel — as long as the new director wants him. "That would be great," the Lollapalooza founder said. "I have read excerpts from [the 'Twilight' books], and Etty has read the entire series."

"I want to say the last one is my favorite," Etty said of "Breaking Dawn," the final book in Meyer's series. "Because they both get what they want, you know? It's [out there], but it's for a series. And at some point, you just want them to be happy. And in the end, they are."

"Twilight" Soundtrack

After two weeks at #1, AC/DC's Black Ice — which has already broken the 1 million-sold barrier — has been bitten by the "Twilight" phenomenon.

The vampire flick opens next Friday, but before hitting the local cineplex, fans of the much-anticipated adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's novel hit their local record stores to pick up a copy of the movie's soundtrack, which features tracks by Muse, Perry Farrell, Paramore and Linkin Park.

The "Twilight" soundtrack debuts at #1 on next week's Billboard albums sales chart, having sold about 164,700 copies in its first week on store shelves. It becomes the year's third soundtrack to top the chart, following this summer's "Mamma Mia" soundtrack and the "Juno" set, which was released in 2007, but climbed to #1 in January. According to the latest sales totals compiled by Nielsen SoundScan, AC/DC's latest falls one spot to #2, with 159,500 week-three scans reported.

"Twilight" was among 17 new releases impacting next week's chart, and one of four to enter in the top 10. Following the soundtrack to "High School Musical 3: Senior Year," which holds at #3 with just under 110,000 sold, Hinder's Take It to the Limit bows at #4, after selling 81,400 units. Italian opera singer Andrea Bocelli's Incanto opens at #8 with 62,200 copies scanned, and country star Brad Paisley's Play debuts at #9 with 53,700 sold.

Meanwhile, Pink's Funhouse drops three spots to #5, with 72,900 scans, while John Legend's Evolver falls two positions to #6, selling another 72,000 copies. T.I.'s Paper Trail holds for a second week at #7, thanks to almost 68,800 scans. Rascal Flatts' Greatest Hits, Volume 1 rounds things out at #10, with 39,100 sold.

A Tribe Called Quest's Q-Tip enters the chart at #11, after selling 34,200-plus copies of his latest, Renaissance, while Sarah Brightman's Winter Symphony debuts at #38, with 13,500 sold. Shiny Toy Guns' Season of Poison follows at #47, with sales reported at 12,200, and rapper UNK's Second Season makes its debut at #104, with 5,200 copies sold. Travis' Ode to J. Smith follows at #122, with week-one sales reported at about 4,600, while Switchfoot's The Best Yet trails at #123, with 4,500 sold.

In marketing, it's what's known as "accessing the target market." In writing, it's called "making broad generalizations."

Regardless of which way you look at it, we've got good news for all you super-eager "Twilight" fans out there: On Thursday (October 16), Atlantic Records confirmed to MTV News that Hot Topic — the nation's leading mall-bound purveyors of all things gothic — would be hosting exclusive listening parties of the "Twilight" soundtrack.

The parties will take place at all Hot Topic locations on October 24 at 7 p.m. sharp. Fans will be able to hear the entire soundtrack — which contains new songs from Paramore and Perry Farrell, plus tracks from Linkin Park, Muse and a host of others — and preorder the album, too.

In addition, all listening-party preorders come with a mysterious "special gift" (available while they last), and partygoers will also be given a 10 percent discount on any purchases made during the event (which means you can finally get your hands on that gigantic pair of Tripp Orange Stitched Strap Pants you've been wanting!).

The "Twilight" soundtrack will hit stores November 4, just 17 days before the movie is due in theaters. The first single off the album is Paramore's "Decode," which made its world premiere in early October on author Stephenie Meyer's Web site. Earlier this week, Paramore shot a video for the song with director Shane Drake, and videos from the set — taken by frontwoman (and avowed "Twilight" fanatic) Hayley Williams — can currently be seen on Paramore's official Web site.

With only 51 days remaining until their dream comes true, "Twilight" fans around the world are finally beginning to hear details about the soundtrack that will accompany their beloved film. Now, a big name is joining Stephenie Meyer's beloved franchise: former Jane's Addiction frontman Perry Farrell.

The Lollapalooza founder has written a brand-new song called "Go All the Way," which will appear in the eagerly anticipated vampire flick when it hits theaters November 21. Although details are vague, the song is said to be featured "in a crucial scene" that takes place in the movie.

"The song conjures up that adolescent feeling when a young man, who has been pursuing a girl he really likes, finally gets her," Farrell said about the song in a statement. "It's about the intense emotions when they go all the way."

The director of the film, Catherine Hardwicke, is a longtime fan of Jane's Addiction and Porno for Pyros and approached the 49-year-old alternative-rock legend to create an original song for her adaptation of Meyer's best-selling novel. "Go All the Way" was produced by Atticus Ross (Nine Inch Nails) and mixed by Alan Moulder (Smashing Pumpkins), and the track is described as a "tumultuous" mix of dance, rock and alternative music styles.

In addition to appearing in the movie itself, the Farrell song will be featured on the "Twilight" soundtrack scheduled to go on sale October 28. The filmmakers have already confirmed that actor Robert Pattinson will have two songs in the film. Paramore will also contribute two tracks, and Meyer faves Muse will have one as well.

Judging by Farrell's comments, "Go All the Way" would seem likely to exist during one of the many romantic scenes between Pattinson's Edward and Kristen Stewart's Bella. Additional details about the film's soundtrack are expected to be announced over the next several days.

For a few hours on Saturday morning, it was unclear who was on the plane that crashed in Columbia, South Carolina. Early word to MTV News was that it might have been "I Don't Want to Be" singer Gavin DeGraw, who performed on the same bill Friday night as Perry Farrell and DJ AM and Travis Barker's project, TRVSDJAM, in the Five Points district of South Carolina at a free T-Mobile-sponsored show.

In a segment scheduled to air Monday night (September 22) on "Extra," DeGraw said many of his friends and family also thought he was on the flight, which crashed just before midnight that evening, taking the lives of four people and seriously injuring Barker and AM.

"I got so many calls from people who were checking to see if I was OK," he told "Extra." "My dad got on the phone and he goes, 'Just say hi,' and I said, 'Huh?' And he said, 'That's enough. I just wanted to hear your voice.' " When MTV News called DeGraw's father Saturday morning, he was clearly upset and desperate to hear news about his son.

DeGraw said he shared the stage with AM and Barker just minutes before they boarded the Learjet whose fiery crash claimed the lives of Barker's close friend and assistant, "Lil" Chris Baker, and security guard Charles "Che" Still, as well as the plane's pilot, Sarah Lemmon, and co-pilot James Bland.

He said he's still trying to make sense of the tragedy. "The people that you travel with when you're doing this for a living, they become your family," DeGraw said. "I was shaking somebody's hand who was about to die. ... That could just as easily been our reality too, and I feel terrible that those guys had to go through that. ... You have no idea what your own fate or their fate is going to be." DeGraw said the crash is one of the most traumatic events he's been associated with. "This is a pretty bad one. Just being this close is already kind of too close."

DeGraw also released a statement about the crash: "My heart goes out to the friends and families of those affected by this tragedy. I wish Travis and Adam the best during their recovery."

Farrell, who also performed on the bill with Barker and AM, sent a personal message to MTV News with his feelings about the crash. "Come back to us soon Travis and AM!," he wrote on behalf of his wife, Etty, and bassist Carl Restivo from Satellite Party. "We want to send our love/ healing vibes out to the two amazing fellows Travis and AM, who are at this moment very, very injured. The thought of what they went through and lived through is almost beyond belief. ... We keep wishing it was just a bad dream. We want them to know that they are in our prayers wishing them a swift and successful recovery."

The former Jane's Addiction leader said the duo gave a "great performance" Friday night, one that made it seem like they were about to "embark on a very fresh style of music performance." Focusing on their musical presence, Farrell dubbed AM a "tasty DJ" who "cuts his music very cleanly, and his choices are spot-on crowd 'wowers.' " As for Barker, Farrell praised him for adding a "mega-ton of energy to the mix" and delivering during shows, elevating the duo's music from "good" to "top-notch music performance."

"We'll all be waiting for your return, boys," Farrell said. "You are great guys and great musicians. Get well soon so we can feel that groove and be moved by you both again!"

Former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and DJ AM were critically injured in a plane crash Friday night in Columbia, South Carolina. The plane's four other passengers were killed.

Lexington County Deputy Coroner Brian Setree confirmed for MTV News on Saturday morning (September 20) that three men and a woman died in the crash. The victims were: Barker's assistant, Chris "Little Chris" Baker, 29, of Studio City, California (who appeared on MTV's reality show "Meet the Barkers"); Barker's security guard, Charles Still, 25, of Los Angeles; the plane's pilot, Sarah Lemmon, 31, of Anaheim, California; and her co-pilot, James Bland, 52, of Carlsbad, California.

Barker and AM had just performed at a free T-Mobile-sponsored show in the Five Points area, along with Perry Farrell and headliner Gavin DeGraw. Though early reports had suggested that DeGraw may have been on the plane at the time of the crash, DeGraw's father, Wayne, told MTV News that he'd spoken to his son Saturday morning and that he was fine. Farrell's manager, Peter Katsis, confirmed that Farrell was not on the plane.

Beth Frits, a spokesperson for the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, Georgia, confirmed that AM (born Adam Goldstein) and Barker were transported to a hospital in Columbia following the crash. They were transferred — AM by helicopter and Barker by ambulance — to the Still Center soon after. She told CNN that both men had "extensive burns."

According to TMZ.com, Barker sustained burns from the waist down, while AM suffered facial burns; UsMagazine.com reported that AM was in a doctor-induced coma and will undergo skin grafts. Both sites cited unnamed sources; MTV News was unable to confirm those reports at press time.

On Saturday afternoon, members of both men's families were reportedly traveling to Georgia to be with them.

The crash took place just before midnight on Friday and involved a twin-engine private Learjet with six passengers onboard, according to Lynne Douglas, public information officer for the Columbia Metro Airport. While taking off, the plane, which never left the ground, overran the runway, struck an antenna array and several lights, and began sending up sparks. It skidded off the end of the runway, through a perimeter fence separating the airfield from a nearby roadway, and then crossed the roadway, coming to a stop on an embankment. The plane caught fire on impact. Douglas said two passengers — who were later confirmed to be AM and Barker — escaped the aircraft while it was on the ground, while the other two passengers and crew members died in the crash.

The National Transportation Safety Board confirmed these details during a press conference, which was held shortly after 11:30 a.m. Saturday. A 10-member team from the NTSB, along with investigators from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, is on the scene, trying to determine what caused the crash. Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen described the post-crash fire as "significant."

An eyewitness told NBC news affiliate WIS that he saw a fireball crossing the road near the airport and then realized it was a plane. He saw jet fuel shoot out across the roadway and then saw two men, who were both on fire, patting each other down to extinguish the flames.

Barker, 32, and DJ AM, 35, were the house band for the 2008 VMAs.
