Nearly a week after the most devastating terrorist attack in U.S. history, artists are still canceling shows and postponing tours as the concert industry struggles to return to some semblance of normalcy.

The "TRL" tour featuring Destiny's Child, Eve, Nelly and City High has been delayed indefinitely, while Britney Spears has nixed her promotional tour of Europe and South America.

Though representatives for the Recording Academy announced last week that the Latin Grammys — slated for September 11, the day of the attacks — would not be rescheduled, an Academy spokesperson said Monday (September 17) that officials are reconsidering whether or not to stage the ceremony.

Shows scheduled for Monday by Stereophonics and Redman were also called off, while Tuesday's postponed or canceled shows include O-Town, Powerman 5000, Earth Wind & Fire and Nick Cave, according to Ticketmaster.com. Judas Priest have rescheduled their imminent tour for early next year.

While other artists, including the Backstreet Boys and Weezer, charged onward, several performers last week announced their decisions to postpone tours, including System of a Down and Slipknot, whose joint Pledge of Allegiance tour will start a week later than planned (see "Destiny's Child, Janet Jackson, Pantera, Others Cancel, Postpone Concerts").

The Yahoo! Internet Life Magazine Online Music Awards, scheduled for Thursday (September 20) in New York, have been postponed until further notice, organizers announced. Pete Townshend, Aerosmith, Widespread Panic and Ludacris were to perform.

Lights Out For ELO Tour

There will be no electric applause, dazzling lights or dizzying orchestras
for Electric Light Orchestra this fall since the band has canceled its
25-date tour due to lackluster ticket sales.

The trek would have marked the U.K. band's first return to North American
shores in 17 years (see "Rewired Electric Light Orchestra Hitting The Road"),
so, expecting a healthy turnout, management booked 12 of the band's shows in
arenas that seat over 15,000 people. The concerts sold poorly, however, even in
major cities, according to the band's publicist.

This could largely be due to the general lack of interest in the band's new
album, Zoom, which failed to zoom up the charts, landing in the Billboard
200 for just two weeks, and then quickly falling off. To date, the record has sold a mere 52,000 copies since its June 12 release, according to SoundScan. And it didn't help that former ELO member Bev Bevan recently played band material with his new group, ELO II.

Craig Fruin, manager for ELO frontman Jeff Lynne, said in a statement that ELO
had planned to stage a "grand spectacle" using a "massive stage and light
show" which had to be staged in major venues. Fruin said the tour was
canceled because doing the show wasn't "logistically or economically possible in
this marketplace at this time."

Jeff Lynne may be the only holdover from Electric Light Orchestra mach one, but you can bet your glowing spaceship that the band's latest lineup will still play such funky, art-pop ELO hits as "Don't Bring Me Down," "Evil Woman" and "Strange Magic" this fall on its first U.S. tour in 17 years.

The group will also perform songs from its new album, Zoom, the first ELO studio recording since 1986's Balance of Power. The band's current lineup consists of Lynne, keyboardist Richard Tandy, vocalist Rosie Vela, guitarist/keyboardist Mark Mann, drummer Gregg Bissonette, bassist Matt Bissonette, and cellists Peggy Baldwin and Sarah O'Brien.

Electric Light Orchestra will kick off their 25-date tour in Albany, New York, on September 9 and finish up in Las Vegas on October 20. Dates cover the East Coast, Midwest, South and West Coast. Before launching the tour, the band will air a special live concert on PBS next month as part of the network's pledge drive.

The original lineup of Electric Light Orchestra — formed in 1970 out of the ashes of power pop band the Move — featured Lynne, singer Roy Wood, bassist Rick Price and drummer Bev Bevan. Over the years, the group went through multiple lineup shifts and in 1986, after 13 records together, Lynne and Bevan, the two constants until that point, parted ways.

Bevan recorded two records as Electric Light Orchestra, Part Two, while Lynne worked with a variety of artists including Tom Petty, George Harrison, Paul McCartney and Roy Orbison. He was also a member of the Traveling Wilburys, whose lineup featured Lynne, Petty, Orbison, Harrison and Bob Dylan.

In addition to issuing Zoom, Electric Light Orchestra recently re-released the albums Eldorado (1974), Discovery (1979), Time (1981) and Secret Messages (1983).
