On Tuesday, the Haunted held a band meeting in Fort Worth, Texas, and discussed the band's future on the Meshuggah, God Forbid and Mnemic tour — which hits Denver's Ogden Theatre on Friday (October 21). Frontman Peter Dolving was dealing with some intense pain; he'd pinched a nerve in his back the week before and hadn't been the same since. Would the band recruit a fill-in for Dolving or would it drop off the tour?

Luckily for the Haunted's fans, Dolving was treated for the pain, and the Ozzfest 2005 vets pushed on. For guitarist Patrik Jensen, it was important that the band see this trek through. "We've been seeing lots of Ozzfest T-shirts, and on that tour we only did 20-minute sets," he said; on this run, the band's playing a full 45. "We owe it to our fans."

And the Haunted means that. The band's prepping a headlining tour of the U.S. that'll kick off in mid-February called the Bad Seeds Tour; Jensen said the guys haven't decided on openers just yet but were considering a number of bands.

"We've done so many opening tours on this album [2004's rEVOLVEr] that we need to come back to the U.S. and treat everybody to a headlining set, playing an hour and 15, hour and 20 minutes instead of playing just the 30- and 40-minute shows," said Jensen, who's also known for his work with Witchery. The tour will last five weeks and will be the band's first U.S. headliner in over two years.

Despite the short sets, Ozzfest was certainly a memorable experience for Jensen. "It was cool hanging out with all the bands and getting to know all the people. Ozzfest is like a small community, traveling all across America," he said. "And I never expected the members of Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath would be in the backstage catering area and that I'd be able to talk to them." Still, he doesn't expect to see the Haunted ever returning to the package tour unless they were offered a better slot.

"We've done it once," he reasoned. "It would be better to maybe do the Gigantour and play in front of a new crowd again."

After this current jaunt, the Haunted will head overseas for a European trip with God Dethroned and God Forbid. In between the December 17 end of that tour and the start of Bad Seeds, Jensen said the band will write material for a still-untitled rEVOLVEr follow-up.

The rest of the week's metal news:

Mudvayne, whose "Forget to Remember" is the lead track on the "Saw II" soundtrack, will play a midnight set at the film's screening party in Las Vegas October 27. "Saw II" star and former New Kids on the Block member Donnie Wahlberg will also attend — though a duet of the teen-pop band's hit "I'll Be Loving You (Forever)" seems unlikely. The soundtrack comes out Tuesday and also features remixes of songs by Marilyn Manson, Queens of the Stone Age and Puscifer (Tool's Maynard James Keenan with ex-Nine Inch Nails guitarist Danny Lohner), plus songs from the Used, Sevendust, Papa Roach, Skinny Puppy, Bloodsimple, Revolting Cocks, Buckethead and others. ... Songs from Strapping Young Lad, Fear Factory, Trivium, Chimaira, Soilwork and others will be featured on the forthcoming "Rainbow Six: Lockdown" soundtrack. ... Dutch doom specialists Orphanage split this week. "From recent internal discussions, it appeared that there was too much irritation and a lack of mutual trust to be able to make a new Orphanage product by the high-quality standards that the band has been known for throughout the years," the band said in a statement. ...

Portland, Oregon, brutal sludge band Facedowninsh-- are nearly finished writing their third album, Npon. The disc will be recorded in November at Pontchartrain Studios in Durham, North Carolina, and should be out by March. ... Static-X will hit the road with Ill Niño and Opiate for the Masses from November 9 in Tempe, Arizona, through November 26 in Fargo, North Dakota. The new single from the band's current album, Start a War, will be "Dirthouse." ... Dokken, whose forthcoming, tentatively titled album Lightning Strikes Again should fall sometime next year, have rolled out a slew of new tour dates, the first being November 30 in Las Vegas. The band will hit Los Angeles, Denver, Seattle and Salt Lake City before things wind down December 20 in Solana Beach, California. ... The Deep Purple DVD "Live in Concert 72/73," which features the band's powerhouse lineup — singer Ian Gillan, guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, bassist Roger Glover, keyboardist Jon Lord and drummer Ian Paice — comes out November 15. The DVD features nine songs in black and white from a 1972 show in Denmark and three in color from a 1973 concert in New York. Tracks include "Space Truckin'," "Highway Star" and "Smoke on the Water." ...

Brazil thrash band Sepultura will release separate versions of the CD and DVD Live in Sao Paulo on November 8. Both formats capture a show from April 3, 2005, that spanned the band's career from 1985 to 2003. The DVD features a second disc with a documentary of the band and the videos "Mindwar," "Bullet the Blue Sky" and "Choke." ... A Motörhead double DVD "Stage Fright" will be released on January 10. The first disc is a concert which was filmed in Düsseldorf, Germany, in 2004 and the second features clips of soundchecks, backstage footage and a documentary about the band's road crew. ... Swedish death-metal band Darkane will embark on their first-ever U.S. tour, supporting Fear Factory and Strapping Young Lad from October 28 in Lawrence, Kansas, through December 5 in Vancouver. Soilwork and It Dies Today are also on the bill. Darkane's fourth album, Layers of Lies, came out in July. ... Kreator and Napalm Death will be bringing A Perfect Murder and the Undying out with them on a 34-date U.S. tour set to kick off February 21 in Quebec; dates run through March 25 in West Springfield, Virginia. ... Oakland, California, stoner-grunge band Totimoshi are working on their third album, which is being produced by Helmet frontman Page Hamilton. The record is tentatively scheduled for release in early 2006. ...

Brutal Cornhuskers Cellador will hit Tampa's Mana Studio on December 16 to start working on their debut disc. Erik Rutan (Soilent Green, the Absence) will produce the effort, which is set for a late spring 2006 release. ... Finnish stoner-rockers Mannhai will begin working on their forthcoming opus next month. Look for the as-yet-untitled disc to include "Fuzzmaster," "Downers" and "Better Hate Yesterday." ... Black-metal legends Marduk will "unleash upon mankind" 17 live cuts recorded during the band's recent Deathmarch Tour in the form of Warschau: Dance of Death. The band intends to produce just 10,000 copies of the disc; no word yet on a potential release date. ... Several bands have been confirmed for Thrashtoberfest 2005, which will take over North Six in Brooklyn, New York, on November 4. Deceased, Thine Eyes Bleed, Sun Descends, Dimentianon, Sunlord and the original Rigor Mortis lineup (frontman Bruce Corbitt, guitarist Mike Scaccia, bassist Casey Orr and drummer Harden Harrison) have all signed on to participate. ... Massachusetts hardcore act Think I Care will hit Atomic Studios late next month with Dean Baltulonis (No Warning, the Promise) to start recording their next disc, which should drop this spring.

Remember Steel Dragon, the '80s metal band who recorded the classics "Livin' the Life," "Wasted Generation" and "Blood Pollution"?

Probably not, since the band only exists in the fictional '80s of the upcoming Mark Wahlberg movie "Rock Star."

But a sort-of-supergroup of real metal musicians — including Dokken bassist Jeff Pilson, son-of-Zep drummer Jason Bonham and one of arpeggio-king Yngwie Malmsteen's glass-shattering vocalists, Jeff Scott Soto — have done their best to bring that band to life.

With songwriting help from Sammy Hagar and Marilyn Manson bassist Twiggy Ramirez, the group recorded six original songs for the movie, due September 7, and its accompanying soundtrack album, due August 28. Tom Werman (Cheap Trick, Blue Öyster Cult, Mötley Crüe) produced the tracks, aiming to evoke the essence of mid-'80s metal, according to Priority Records, which is releasing the soundtrack album.

"Rock Star," an Everclear song from last year's Songs From an American Movie, Vol. 2: Good Time for a Bad Attitude, will be the soundtrack's first single and video, according to Priority.

The soundtrack will also include such real '80s nuggets as Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer" and INXS' "Devil Inside," as well as the Verve Pipe track "Colorful."

Verve Pipe's Brian Vander Ark appears in the movie, as does Third Eye Blind frontman Stephan Jenkins.

"Rock Star" is based on a New York Times article about Judas Priest lead singer Tim "Ripper" Owens, who replaced original singer Rob Halford after singing in a Priest cover band.

Judas Priest have disavowed the project, claiming it takes too many liberties with their story (see "Judas Priest Turn Their Backs On 'Rock Star' Movie").

As Mark Wahlberg and Jennifer Anniston prepare to start work on "Metal God," the film project loosely based on the true story of Tim "Ripper" Owens and Judas Priest, the movie's producers have tapped several real-life musicians to round out the cast.
Director Stephen Herek ("Holy Man" "Mr. Holland's Opus") will helm the picture, which tells the story of an office supply salesman who moonlights in a cover band, Blood Pollution. But the salesman, portrayed by Wahlberg, gets his shot at the big time when a famous heavy metal outfit, Steel Dragon, drafts him to replace its original singer.
According to Variety, Slaughter drummer Blas Elias, actor Timothy Olyphant ("Go," "Scream 2"), and Black Label Society guitarist Nick Catanese will join the Verve Pipe's Brian Vander Ark in the fictional group Blood Pollution. Vander Ark agreed to do the film last year (see "Verve Pipe's Brian Vander Ark Cast In 'Metal God'"), and will
play bass in the flick.
Drummer Jason Bonham, Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Zakk Wylde, Dokken bassist Jeff Pilson, and actors Dominic West ("A Midsummer Night's Dream") and Jason Flemyng ("Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels") will rock out on celluloid as Steel Dragon.
Because the "Metal God" bands are staffed with real musicians, look for the movie's soundtrack to include several songs from each group, although the specifics for such recordings have yet to be determined.
"Metal God" is expected to begin filming on location in Los Angeles in March, and is tentatively set for release by the end of the year.

After sending its first album to U.S. soil earlier this year, Chilean metal outfit Criminal began exploring the States for the first time this weekend on a U.S. tour that sees it share the stage with Dokken, Overkill, Manowar, the Misfits, and others at a few high profile shows.
The band, which recently turned up next to Puya and Armored Saint on the Latin metal compilation "Metalo," kicked off its first American outing on Thursday in Appleton, Wisconsin. As part of the brief tour, which runs through next weekend, the band stopped by the Milwaukee Metalfest last weekend, joining a roster that included the Misfits, Manowar, Cradle of Filth, and an army of others. The tour will also see the band swing by the Cleveland World Series of Metal, which also features Dokken, Overkill, and more than 50 others.
The dates mark the band's Stateside debut following the April release of its second album, "Dead Soul." Criminal's first effort, "Victimized," was released in South America and Japan
in 1994.
If you want to catch the band in the flesh, here's where to look:

8/2 - Des Moines, IA @ Hairy Mary's
8/3 - Chicago, IL @ Smiler Coogan's
8/4 - Lansing, IL @ JJ Kelly's
8/6 - Detroit, MI @ Old Miami
8/7 - Cleveland, OH @ Agora Theater (Cleveland World Series of Metal)

Metal journeymen Dokken continue to soldier on.
The band will release its first album without original guitarist George Lynch next month. "Erase the Slate" is due out on June 15 courtesy of CMC International Records. Lynch's tenuous relationship with the band and frontman Don Dokken finally came to an end in late 1997 when Lynch left the band (see "Lynch Hangs Up Dokken").
As we reported last year, guitarist Reb Beach will be joining frontman Don Dokken, bassist Jeff Pilson, and drummer Mick Brown this time out (see "Dokken, Queensryche Announce New Guitarists"). Beach may be familiar to fans from his work with Winger and Alice Cooper, and he's also played with Chaka Khan, Howard Jones, Twisted Sister, and Roger Daltrey as well as his own Reb Beach Project.
Dokken is expected to hit the road with Beach later this year.

A new album scheduled with the original members of the Lynch Mob never happened because singer Oni Logan disappeared after recording just three songs, says guitarist George Lynch. Lynch adds that he hasn't seen or heard from Logan since the disappearing act a couple of months ago, he has no idea where he is, and he's given up trying to find him.
"If you see him, tell him I want my guitar and amp back," he cracks.
The three songs that were committed to tape, says the guitarist, will likely be released on the Internet. Lynch, who left Dokken for the second time not long ago, freely admits that "the band terminated me." He has now joined up with Phoenix locals including singer Sebastian Berrington and a rhythm section consisting of Clancy McCarty and Gabe Rosales, who at 19, says Lynch, is younger than his son. Lynch says he hasn't ruled out calling the currently nameless band the Lynch Mob. Whatever the name, they go into the studio to record in mid-September.
Lynch also
clears up the rumor that former Skid Row singer Sebastian Bach was a possible replacement for Logan. It wasn't just simple confusion between the two singing Sebastians, Lynch reports. It seems that Sony A&R legend John Kalodner suggested the pairing, and as a result, Lynch and Bach did talk. However, it didn't work out.

Dokken has added former Winger guitarist Reb Beach to their line-up, a replacement (finally) for the long-departed George Lynch.

Beach has recently been on the road with Alice Cooper but he will be linking up with Don Dokken, Jeff Pilson and Mick Brown in time to record a new album. The band is still in the writing stages at this point but plan on powering up the console as early as next month, according to manager Nick John. The group is also expected to launch a short tour in October.

John confirms that Don Dokken has been working on an acoustic solo album, but says it's a long-term project that's been designated to the back burner. His concentration will be on Dokken, the hard rock band. Pilson, though, will likely be doing double duty. He's currently shopping a completed CD with his pop-ish side project, A Better Mousetrap, a band that he fronts.

Meanwhile the aforementioned Lynch appears to have given up on the Lynch Mob. He first formed that band when
Dokken broke up in 1990, and resurrected a version of the group in 1997 after leaving a reformed Dokken late last year. The original Lynch Mob included Lynch, Brown, Anthony Esposito and singer Oni Logan, although Logan was replaced by Robert Mason. Most recently, the band toured with vocalist John West when Logan, who had been included in the resurrection, again left the group. Now Lynch is saying that he won't continue under Lynch Mob without Logan.

In related news, Kelly Gray, who produced Dokken's last album, "Shadow Life," has been officially announced as the new guitar player in Queensrÿche replacing Chris DeGarmo, who left the group last year and is currently playing in Jerry Cantrell's band. Gray has been producing the new Queensrÿche album, which is nearing completion. According to their official website, they're currently recording vocals.

Queensrÿche have not revealed what label the record will be issued on, although they do say they have a
new deal in place. The group was a casualty of the closing of the North American EMI label last year. The last single from their most recent album was issued on Virgin.

Lynch Hangs Up Dokken

December 8 [7:55 EDT] -- After weeks of speculation, George Lynch has left metal rockers Dokken to resurrect his own project, the Lynch Mob (not to be confused with Ice Cube's Lench Mob).

Dokken opened their Christmas tour December 5 at the Galaxy Theatre in Santa Ana, California, with John Norum replacing Lynch on guitar, along with regulars Don Dokken up front, Jeff Pilson on bass and Mick Brown on drums. Norum had previously played with Don Dokken on the latter's solo project.

The longstanding acrimonious relationship between Lynch and bandleader Dokken was well known and often acknowledged. The band, together since the early 1980s, had a well-publicized break up 1989 at which point Lynch formed the Lynch Mob with ex-Dokken drummer Mick Brown. The band split up in 1993. Brown, and eventually Lynch, later agreed to rejoin a resurrected Dokken.

Lynch announced the Lynch Mob revival late last month via Dokken's fanzine, "Breaking the Chains," but made no mention
of his future with Dokken, who had announced tour dates from early December through to early January. Few fans knew about his departure prior to the opening concert, although Lynch's picture did not appear in the ads. Fans at the show were told that Norum had rehearsed with Dokken for about two weeks.

Lynch told "Breaking the Chains" that the Lynch Mob is currently recording at the Salt Cellar Studio in Mesa, Arizona. with original members Oni Logan on vocals and Anthony Esposito on bass. He added that while Brown played on demos, he won't be on the record.
