The master recordings of Kool Keith's vocals for the upcoming Analog Brothers album, "Pimp To Eat," were stolen during the melee in Los Angeles after the Lakers' NBA championship-clinching game on June 19.

The thievery will force the Analog Brothers, a loose-knit collective of rappers including Keith, Ice-T, and others, to push back the release of "Pimp To Eat" from its original release date of July 4 to August 15.
The vocal tapes for the album were being housed at a location near the Staples Center, which was the scene of random looting and vandalism after the Lakers took home the title by defeating the Indiana Pacers.

The label handling the project, Ground Control/Nu Gruv Alliance, released a statement saying that it was unclear whether this was a "deliberate act of piracy," and mused over whether or not "the person(s) involved realize what they now have in their possession."

Despite the delay, Kool Keith (and his varied schizoid rap identities)
still plans to issue his next solo album, titled "Matthew" after Keith's middle name, on July 25.

O.D.B. Gets Pass From Rehab To Record WWF Track With Kool Keith

Ol' Dirty Bastard may have a hard time making it to court, but the troubled rapper managed to score a one-day pass from the California rehab facility he currently resides in to record what promises to be one of the strangest collaborations in recent memory.
Late last year, O.D.B. was granted a day pass from rehab to meet Kool Keith at Los Angeles' Echo Sounds Studios. Their mission: to rework WWF superstar Mankind's theme music into a twisted bit of hip-hop magic for an upcoming WWF CD (see "Method Man, Redman, Snoop, O.D.B., More Hook Up With WWF").
Ol' Dirty (real name Russell Jones) is currently serving a one-year sentence in the facility (plus three years probation) and was also granted a short-term release earlier this week for what proved to be a bizarre court appearance in Queens, New York. During the Monday court date, the rapper reportedly made lewd comments to a female district attorney, ignored a judge, and even
fell asleep (see "Ol' Dirty Has Strange Day In New York City Court").
Two days later, he failed to turn up for a scheduled court date in Brooklyn, prompting authorities to issue a bench warrant for the rapper.
Given his legal troubles, fans should be pleased to hear that O.D.B. is getting back to what he does best, even if its just for one track. The Wu-Tang Clan rapper's last album, 1999's "N***a Please," garnered critical praise and landed on numerous critics' year-end top ten lists by the close of '99.
His Kool Keith collaboration will turn up alongside cuts from Snoop Dogg, Run-DMC, Cash Money Millionaires, Method Man & Redman, Mobb Deep, Mystical, Slick Rick, the Hot Boys, and others when "WWF Raw" hits stores on February 29.

-- John Gill, with additional reporting by Robert Mancini
What do you think about this story? You Tell Us.

As Beck looks to finish work on his new LP within the next few weeks, erroneous reports have surfaced indicating that the avant garde musician has settled his pending lawsuits with Geffen and Bong Load Records.
On Tuesday, Beck's lawyer informed MTV News that while all three parties continue to work on an amicable legal resolution, a settlement did not appear to be likely in the near future.
As we previously reported (see "Beck Battles Labels Over Business, Artistic Issues" and "Beck Sues Label For Copyright Infringement"), Beck, Geffen, and Bong Load are currently involved in several lawsuits stemming from a contractual dispute and potential copyright infringement.
In Wednesday's "The Los Angeles Times," however, an article citing Beck's attorney reported that the performer had indeed settled the copyright infringement suit filed against Geffen for issuing his last album, 1998's
"Mutations," without his permission.
Beck's attorney did not respond to calls seeking comment about the article, but an associate told MTV News that a legal settlement had not been reached between the parties.
The artist's publicist at Geffen Records confirmed that a resolution had not yet happened and expressed hope "that everything would sort itself out within the next few months."
According to Beck's official website, the musician's new album will be out on November 16 via Interscope/Bong Load Records, but neither the release date nor label affiliation had been confirmed by Beck's representatives.
Beck will likely wait until all the legal wrangling is over before issuing the new album, which may include recorded collaborations with rapper Kool Keith and singer Beth Orton, whom Beck opened for last month in Los Angeles (see "Beck Plays Surprise Opening Set For Beth Orton").

Some of Roger Troutman's last recorded work will turn up on Kool Keith's forthcoming album, "Black Elvis/Lost in Space," as the slain Zapp frontman appears on the track "Master of the Game."
As we previously reported (see "Zapp's Roger And Larry Troutman Killed In Apparent Murder-Suicide"), Troutman was fatally shot outside of a studio in Dayton, Ohio in the early hours of April 25. During a recent interview with the MTV Radio Network, Kool Keith talked about working with Troutman, a man Keith says he feels honored to have had a chance to work with.
"I'd rather not see anybody go out that way," Keith explained. "That's another original person gone. I mean, I get off to hear another [talkbox on a] record. Some people don't like it because they're doing what they think is funky. I feel that's a big loss. What can you say?"
Kool Keith's new record, "Black Elvis/Lost in Space," is due in stores on July 13, and
the first single will be for the track "The Girls Don't Like the Job." Keith says he is also preparing to regroup with the other members of the Ultramagnetic MCs.

Kool Keith, the influential rapper, is back. Last summer he vanished for several weeks, costing the critically acclaimed Dr. Octagon project a spot on the Lollapalooza tour.

Now comes word that Keith is reuniting his former group, the Ultramagnetic MC's, to record a new album due this fall.

Their 1988 album "Critical Beatdown" is considered a Hip Hop classic. The Prodigy is expected, though not yet confirmed, to guest on the Ultramagnetic MC's album. That would be fitting since Kool Keith raps on The Prodigy track "Diesel Power" on the "Fat Of The Land" album, which also samples the Ultramagnetic MC's on "Smack My Bitch Up." Also expected to guest on the Ultramagnetic MC's album is rapper Rakim.

June 24 [16:00 EDT] -- This year's version of Lollapalooza launches on Wednesday in West Palm Beach, Florida, but Dr. Octagon won't be on-hand.

Publicists for Dr. Octagon, which was scheduled to play the second stage during the first leg of the tour, said that the act has been dropped from the tour because Kool Keith, whose wacked-out raps help define Dr. Octagon's techno-raunch sound, has not been heard from since agreeing to be part of the tour.

Instead, fans at the first Lolla date on Wednesday will have to make due with a second stage set from festival organizer Perry Farrell's Porno For Pyros. On Friday, when the tour rolls into Atlanta, Interscope Records' Artificial Joy Club will assume a spot on the second stage.

Meanwhile, Dr. Octagon fans may just have to content themselves with the two new albums, "Dr. Octegonecologist," and "Instrumentalist."
