It's been a few years since Alana Davis scored a hit with Ani DiFranco's "32 Flavors," but she's still thinking about food — her second album, Fortune Cookie, is due October 2.

The follow-up to 1997's Blame It on Me features tracks produced by the Neptunes, and the jazzy folk-rocker enlisted Lenny Kravitz bassist Jack Daley for the project. Producer Ed Tuton, who worked on Blame It on Me as well as Eagle-Eye Cherry's Desireless, is back on board for the new album as well, according to Elektra Records.

Tracks include "When You Became King," "God of Love" and "I Want You" in addition to a cover of '80s rappers Whodini's "Friends."
Davis, who credits her jazz-fanatic parents with influencing her style, has no plans to hit the road yet. She toured in 1998 with the H.O.R.D.E. festival.

Breeders Return For "Mod Squad," Join Everlast, Alana Davis, Crash Test Dummies On Soundtrack

The Breeders, Lauryn Hill, Alana Davis, the Crash Test Dummies, and Curtis Mayfield are among the artists who have contributed songs to the upcoming soundtrack for "The Mod Squad," the motion picture update of the '60s TV series starring Claire Danes, Omar Epps and Josh Brolin.
The real surprise of the album is the inclusion of "Collage," the first new Breeders tune to be released in over five years, and which seems to indicate that the recording difficulties that have plagued sisters Kim and Kelly Deal, who've been working on material on and off for the last year and a half, may finally be coming to an end.
Sources close to the band indicated that the song had been laid down at sessions fairly recently and that its label, Elektra Records, was hopeful of eventually releasing a new Breeders album, the very long-awaited follow-up to 1993's "The Last Splash."
Other notable contributions to "The Mod Squad" include a duet between Curtis Mayfield and Lauryn Hill on "Here But I'm
Gone," a song which marks the second time within a year that Hill has produced a track for an R&B legend. The Fugees frontwoman also handled production duties for Aretha Franklin's 1998 hit, "A Rose Is Still a Rose."
The first single from "The Mod Squad" will be from urban folkster Alana Davis, who revisits Blind Faith's "Can't Find My Way Home." Gerald Levert and Lil' Mo also get into the spirit of reworking some vintage tunes for the soundtrack, and offer up a cover of Todd Rundgren's classic '70s single, "Hello It's Me."
Meanwhile, the Crash Test Dummies and rappers SX10 -- the new group featuring Cypress Hill's Sen Dog -- offer previews to their upcoming records with a "Keep a Lid on Things" and "Goin' Crazy," respectively.
"The Mod Squad" is due on screens April 2, with the accompanying soundtrack to arrive in stores a week earlier. The track listing for "The Mod Squad" album:

Busta Rhymes - "Tear Da Roof Off"
Everlast - "Ends"
Alana Davis -
"Can't Find My Way Home"
Curtis Mayfield w/ Lauryn Hill - "Here But I'm Gone"
Crash Test Dummies - "Keep a Lid on Things"
SX10 - "Goin' Crazy"
Bjork - "Alarm Call (Remix)"
Gerald Levert feat Lil' Mo - "Hello It's Me" I
van Matias - "Messin' Around"
The Breeders - "Collage"
Chocolate Milk- "Action Speaks Louder Than Words"
Morphine - "You're An Artist"
Skerik and the Keefus Trio - "My Favorite Things"

Recent Grammy winners Paula Cole and Shawn Colvin will be among the performers returning to the Lilith Fair when it rolls out again this summer.

Cole and Colvin will join fellow Lilith vets Sheryl Crow, the Indigo Girls, Natalie Merchant, and founder Sarah McLachlan. Newcomers on this year's outing will include Missy Elliott, Erykah Badu and Sinead O'Connor.

Speaking about what fans should expect when she returns to Lilith this summer, Cole, who picked up Best New Artist honors at this year's Grammys, said, "I never try to replicate the record live. It's totally different, and I'm really proud of the live show and sometimes, a monster does come out. Sometimes I get angry and destroy microphones and sometimes it's very tender and introspective."

McLachlan, Badu, O'Connor, the Indigo Girls and Merchant will be on the bill when the tour kicks off on June 19 in Portland, Oregon. Colvin will then join the tour a week later for shows in Los Angeles and San Diego.

One female folk-rocker who will not be on this year's Lilith Fair tour is Alana Davis, who has signed on to join Blues Traveler, Ben Harper and Bare Naked Ladies on this summer's H.O.R.D.E. tour (see "UPDATE: John Popper Talks About H.O.R.D.E.

Alana Davis is a different kind of rising star folk singer, whose jazzy vocal style on her critically acclaimed album, "Blame It On Me," has drawn comparisons to Joni Mitchell and Pheobe Snow.

The Manhattan-based Davis grew up with a mother who sang, and a father who was a jazz musician. However, she didn't start writing songs until a few years ago.

Her first single and video is actually an interpretation of the Ani DiFranco tune, "32 Flavors." However, the track is not a word for word cover. Davis explained to MTV News why.

"Ani DiFranco is very much her own song writer, you know and I think of her songs as being very specific to her ideals and stuff. At first I wasn't sure about taking her ideas and trying to make them my own and reinterpreting them. But I started to play around with it I don't know, I took out the parts that I wasn't comfortable with, you know, and I put in ideas of my own and sent her
a copy of it and she said she loved it, so..."[784k Quicktime]

Alana Davis hits the road, opening for G. Love and Special Sauce on March 10 in Omaha, Nebraska.

Ani DiFranco, by the way, releases her new album "Little Plastic Castle" next week and launches a tour of her own on April 3 in Durham, New Hampshire.
