Chicago quartet Crucial Conflict has just released its sophomore album, "Good Side, Bad Side," which features some production work and vocals from R. Kelly, as well as newcomers Do or Die and Three 6 Mafia.

In approaching the new album, Crucial Conflict says it was looking to explore even larger themes than its debut, "The Final Tic," and the group told the MTV Radio Network that "Good Side, Bad Side" was about exploring the inherent duality of all things.

"[With] 'Good Side, Bad Side, we're trying to explain that there's a good side and a bad side to everything," offered Conflict's Wild Style, "you know, don't judge a book by its cover. There might be some bad qualities [about something], but there might be some good."

Crucial Conflict has already released "Scummy" as the first single from the new record. Meanwhile, group members Kilo and Never turn up in cameo roles in Hype Williams' controversial new film, "Belly," while the new Crucial Conflict song, "Swell Up,"
can be found on the film's soundtrack.

Crucial Conflict Rally Around Windy City For New Album

Boosted by the likes of Master P, Jermaine Dupri and Outkast, Southern-based hip-hop has stolen much of the thunder from both the East Coast and the West Coast styles. Now, Crucial Conflict is hoping to shift the geocenter of hip-hop a little towards the windy city with its new album, "Good Side, Bad Side."
For it sophomore effort, Crucial Conflict sought help from established Chicago-based acts such as R&B vocalist R. Kelly and rap group Do or Die, but also tapped some up-and-coming acts for the album, including the Renegades, T-Baby and MFD.
"That's the role we play as far as being artists from Chicago," explained the group's in-house producer Wild-Style, "we 're trying to open up those doors for other performers in Chicago."
"Good Side, Bad Side," the follow-up to the Crucial Conflict's 1996 gold debut, "The Final Tic," is due in-stores on November 3. The first single from the record, "Scummy," is currently out on radio now.

Crucial Conflict's new album will include a bonus track featuring R. Kelly. The song is called "Ghetto Queen" and will be available on "Good Side, Bad Side," the group's second album, scheduled to be released November 11.
Two other bonus songs just added to the record are "Too Bogus," featuring Three 6 Mafia; and "Airplane" with Do Or Die. The first single from the new CD is called "Scummy," and will be shipped to radio stations October 16. The song is described as "a rowdy anthemic track" reminiscent of their previous hit "Hay" from their debut album, 1996's "The Final Tic." Both the single and the album were certified gold.
The Chicago-based rap quartet's sophisticated, Southern-based sound is anchored by bandmember and producer Wild Style.
