Atmospheric Los Angeles outfit the Autumns will get some help from one of its biggest influences this week when it previews some new material at a Los Angeles club date.
The group will team with Cocteau Twins bassist-producer Simon Raymonde at L.A.'s Café Bleu on Thursday for a set comprised of six new Autumns songs and six Raymonde/Cocteau Twins songs.
Raymonde and the Autumns are expected to roll out material that will eventually turn up on the three-track Autumns EP "Boy With The Aluminum Stilts" (due in October) as well as the group's upcoming full-length album, "In The Russet Gold Of This Vain Hour" (due next February).
Raymonde produced the effort, which the group recorded at Tom Waits' San Francisco studio. The group kicked up the Cocteau influence even more by enlisting the help of Cocteau Twins guitarist Robin Guthrie on a track called "Witch Hazel."

-- Robert Mancini

Massive Attack Drops Plans To Remix Radiohead, Teams With Cocteau Twins

Trip-hop will meet dream-pop on the upcoming album from the pioneering British trip-hop collective Massive Attack.

The group's third album, due in May and titled "Mezzanine," will feature vocals by Liz Fraser of the U.K.'s Cocteau Twins on three tracks.

Fans of the group may recall that Massive Attack tried a similar collaboration when Tracy Thorne of Everything But The Girl turned up on its album "Protection."

Fraser, who'll be heard on the first single "Teardrop" and will tour with Massive Attack this summer, also turns up on a new album by Craig Armstrong called "The Space Between Us." That album is one of the first releases on Massive Attack's own label, Melankolic Records.

Because it's been so busy finishing up the new album, Massive Attack has shelved plans to remix Radiohead's "OK Computer" album. As we first reported last year (see "Radiohead Meets Massive Attack"), Radiohead had asked Massive Attack
to remix its Grammy-winning album in its entirety, but that apparently won't happen.

On a related note, Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke's brother Andy fronts a British band of his own, called the Unbelievable Truth, which has just released its first single and video in the U.K.

The song is called "Higher Than Reason" [800k QuickTime], and it will pop up on the Unbelievable Truth's first album, which arrives in the U.S. this Fall.
